4.3 out of 5 stars 1,589 ratings

In Green Valley, Tennessee everybody knows everybody, but nobody knows Sabrina Logan.

Sabrina has been hiding in plain sight for years. Living her life inside of books, dutifully helping her family, and hoping no one will notice her. So far? Mission accomplished!

Yet when sexy—and distrustful—sheriff, Wyatt Monroe returns to town with his daughters, he definitely notices the quiet librarian everyone else overlooks. The single dad can’t seem to shake thoughts of shy Sabrina. Without quite understanding the impulse, Wyatt makes his mission finding her again, so he can . . . well, he’ll just have to reckon with that later.

What Wyatt discovers is a woman who trusts too easily, but who’s afraid to live. Trust doesn’t come easily to Wyatt. But living? That’s never been a problem. And he’d sure like to show her how.

'Crime and Periodicals' is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, can be read as a standalone, and is book #1 in the Oh Brother! series, Green Valley World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

"Crime and Periodicals is one of those novels you could totally see as a Hallmark movie. At the same time, it packs the angst and romance along with a delicious smidge of steam." -Katie Ashley, New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

I absolutely adored this book. It was perfection! Wyatt was so nice... So sweet and considerate! The romance between Wyatt and Sabrina was delicious!!! It had all the feels and besides being heartwarming it was also sexy and swoony! I really liked the way that Nora Everly portrayed "acute shyness". It was written realistically. I myself have suffered from paralyzing shyness. Not to that extent but enough to know exactly how she felt when she tried to have a conversation and her throat closed up and every word inside of her dried up. Sabrina was very brave and worked her way through it in a moving and interesting way and got to her happy ending. She was such a loving and generous woman. Wes, Harry and the girls were an adorable part of the story.... There were lots of amusing and cute parts to this story that made me smile and laugh!!! There were sad parts too... Harry's autism was handled with finesse and understanding...... And I really enjoyed all of the family and townspeople affection and support.... This is exactly the kind of book that has everything as far as I am concerned! I loved the epilogue....Thank you for It Nora...It left me satisfied and happy! I highly recommend this book and hope that we will get more books featuring both these families they were so loving and uplifting!

Sabrina is the assistant librarian in Green Valley. Since her older sister Cora passed away, Sabrina and her orthopedic surgeon father have had custody of Cora’s two teen children, Ruby and Weston and her baby Harry. Sabrina has kept her life very small, moving between home and the library, with almost paralysing anxiety. But when she meets hot deputy sheriff Wyatt Monroe, and he sees her, she gets the confidence to try make some life changes.

This is the first book of Nora Everly’s I have read, although it’s not the first story in this Green Valley universe. It’s a sweet story, that sees Sabrina taking some of what she’s learned from books and putting it into practice. When she lets herself try new things, she realises just how much love she has to give. I appreciated just how special Sabrina and Wyatt’s families are to both of them, and how they prioritise their children and each other.

Shy but strong heroine and a hunky single dad who is a sheriff... yes please! Sabrina is a shy assistant librarian who is trying to change her life one small step at a time. Wyatt is smitten with the shy librarian and wants to see if she will let him in. At face value this is a sweet love story between two people, but it is more than just that. There are several layers to the story that will make you fall in love with each page. Sabrina truly blossoms in this story not because she is falling in love but because she is choosing to be a stronger person. This book will make you laugh, swoon, cheer and fall in love with Green Valley all over again!

There were things I liked about this book, and then there were other things I just personally didn’t connect with. This was in no way a bad book, and I think people will really love it, but things in here just didn’t work for me.

I loved the whole Green Valley setting that was very much a great small town vibe. I loved the fact she worked in the library. Every time a scene happened in the library, it made my bookworm heart rejoice. Any mention of books was a win.

The family dynamics were great. There were so many of them that I really enjoyed. Seeing those interactions was just really sweet and touching. It was really a family heavy book, and I wasn’t mad at it. It was such an important piece to the story. The kids were freaking adorable.

The representation in this book was good. I liked seeing those dynamics being explored in the book. It added another layer to the story.

What didn’t work for me was the romance itself. There were sweet moments between Wyatt and Sabrina, but I just didn’t get them as a couple. To me, they just didn’t have chemistry. At times, they really didn’t seem like they were on a level playing field. I just couldn’t see him falling for her like that. There was just something off about their connection. I wanted to like the romance more, but I didn’t. It wasn’t my favorite.

Well, this was just such a sweet book! You know those stories that just have you smiling when you set it down? Wyatt and Sabrina were both kind, wonderful people who had some brokenness and heartache to get through.

I loved watching Sabrina become more and more open throughout the course of the book. Her crippling shyness was almost painful to “witness” at first, but she had a fantastic inner dialogue and you really felt for her. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times. “I hid in the horror section whenever I spotted a man heading to the check out counter- because, yikes.” “I had no sunshine and I enjoyed hiding.”- I think that needs to go on a t-shirt. 😊 But seriously, she had loss early on in life and was really committed to opening up and bettering herself and it was inspiring to read about.

Wyatt- well what can you say, single dad of two daughters, police officer, extremely handsome, partner of Jackson James, and absolutely head over heels for our shy heroine. Their relationship was sweet and moved quickly, but, it made sense for the places they were both in.

I may have giggled and gotten dopey excited at some of our favorite Winston’s showing up and being their wonderful selves. Jackson James was a wonderful wingman and human. It was just another wonderful addition to the “Pennyverse”. I’m just already blown away by these Smartypants Romances.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Hot Cop and the Shy Librarian
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 10, 2021
This is the second book in this series of connected books, which stand alone. The books all contain the same characters and they all have shared history, but the other books aren’t required to make sense of this one. The series is a spin-off from Penny Reid’s Winston Brother Series, and is written by different authors.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was intrigued by the characters for this book and decided to give it a go despite never having read anything by this author before. I’m glad I gave it a chance because I enjoyed it a lot.

Sabrina is incredibly shy and suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. She is an assistant librarian and hides from nearly everyone, even at work. She lost her mother when she was a young child and later lost her sister when she was 17. Since then she has raised her sister’s children along with her father at the family ranch. Her father is a pretty famous surgeon and popular in the small town where they live. The two eldest children are now in their teens and will graduate in the next couple of years. They are happy and well adjusted young people. Harry the youngest was born the day his birth mother died and sees Sabrina as his mother. His is on the autistic spectrum.

Wyatt is one of four brothers and is the odd one out. The others all work for the family construction firm but after he got injured and couldn’t play football anymore he became a cop in Nashville, where he attended university. He recently moved back to Green Valley and became a deputy sheriff after his now ex-wife left him for a country music star and decided she didn’t want anything to do with their adorable daughters. In Green Valley he gets help from his mother and his new job allows him greater flexibility to be a parent.

When Wyatt bumps into Sabrina on a traffic stop he falls for her instantly. He’s great with Harry and later on his daughters are also great with him. When he asks her for a date she her shyness overcomes her, but he is kindly and gently persistent.

This is a very sweet love story that is as much about Sabrina becoming less afraid of the world and the people in it as it is about the romance. It’s also not surprising that the children are a big part of the story and they are incredibly sweet and funny.

I like that there is great family support for Sabrina and her relationship with her 16 year old, highly intelligent niece is more like friendship than parent/daughter. Sabrina also starts to find friendship outside her family because of the strides she makes in facing the world.

It’s a really lovely story and I’ll definitely be looking for other books by this author.
