Cross-Checking: A Second Chance Romance (Lilac Harbor Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 130 ratings

Choices. My life has been defined by a series of choices—some made by me, some made by those I loved. One of the hardest choices was ten years ago, when I left Coraline Campbell and Lilac Harbor in the rearview mirror to play hockey and provide for my father. Now, I’m back. Back in the small town I grew up in, breathing in the same air of the last person who made me feel whole. Chasing that feeling. Coraline has made her own choices. She’s not the same girl I fell in love with, and she has her own secrets to hide. When her final choice brings me to my knees, I have my own decision to make. Will I let the anger and betrayal consume me, or will I fight for the only thing in my life that makes sense? Can we have a second chance?

Best friends turned high school sweethearts, Cora and Camden are then separated for 10 years. When Camden returns to their hometown to re-claim the love of his life, Cora is forced to tell him a painful secret she’s kept for 10 years.

It’s a loving story filled with memories of a younger time. Both Cora and Camden have very sad backstories which made me root for them even harder.

Evil Graham’s debut novel is wonderful and as cry-in-public-place heart-wrenching as it is hot-and-bothered sexy. More than anything, it’s a sweet, sweet story.

Even after finishing this book I'm still lost about things
Why is she mad at him?? She broke up with him, told him to leave. Then she never called him to tell him what was going on. And when he was still emailing her because he thought they still had a chance shes the one that told him to stop. And she says he had to go because she knew hockey was the only way he could pay for his dads medical care. So again why is she mad that he left??
Why couldnt she go with him? It's never brought up really. I get she had her sister but she was willing to live with the aunt and uncle. Or why couldnt she go with them? What other places dont have high schools.
Cora is a very frustrating character. She makes no sense. She even wants to run at the very end when she was the one that made the gesture and went to him to show him she cared but yet she was freaking out and wanted to run...uummm why? So her character doesnt really grow very much.
Cam is a good character, way more like able and is an amazing son.

Wow, just wow!! What an amazing debut novel by author Evie Graham.

This heartfelt and heartbreaking story is the first in, what I am absolutely sure to be, a phenomenal series Lilac Harbor.

This is the story of Camden and Coraline. This is a story of a lifelong friendship and choices made.  This is a story of how decisions, made with the best intentions, have an impact that can be brutal. This is a story about the power of friendship and love.  This is a story reminded me of..."You Can't Go Home Again"

I was so impressed by the depth of this story.  I am always wary of reading debut novels by new authors.  Some have the tendency to pander to the audience they are writing for.  Trying to shove too much into a story and causes it to be overwhelming.

Not so for this story, Ms. Graham gives the reader a story that flows beautifully, that has flashbacks that are needed.  This story is full of heart, heat, and hope. This is a beautiful story of redemption and forgiveness.

Thank you, Ms. Graham, for writing this story, thank you for creating the world of Lilac Harbor and I cannot wait to see what comes next for you! I see a bright future for you!

First off, I have to say Camden Locke is a good guy. In the big picture, I understood the choices made by Camden but, whew boy howdy, they were hard. And this guy (actually he was still a kid) suffered some major life upheavals, and he handled them as well as could be expected.

Coraline, on the other hand, made me want to throw my Kindle across the room. I couldn't quite figure out her reasoning a lot of the time, but then again, when we are under pressure, we do what we think is best and hope it works out. It was touch and go for Coraline. I wasn't sure I wanted to root for her success. But one of the traits of a good author is writing in an authentic voice. By taking us through Coraline's tug-of-war with herself over how to handle everything--well, it gave the story authenticity.

Cross Checking is a debut novel as well as the first in the Lilac Lake series. We've already met potential characters for future books, and I must say my curiosity is piqued. I think Evie has opened a new world of interesting people for us to come to know and get invested in; Camden and Coraline are a great beginning.

This book ripped my heart out and then put it back. I had the lump in my throat tears happening in this one.
Suck a great story of childhood friends turned sweethearts finding their way back to each other after 10 long years apart.
You will not be disappointed in reading this one.

An okay read. Reasonable storyline and flows well. I’m not a fan of dialogue episodes of the past and this story is littered with them, however given the angst the story delivers what’s needed. An okay read.
