Born under a gloomy, grey, Scottish sky, it is perhaps no real surprise that darkness has always felt comfortable to John Watson. After countless hours spent in his local library, he found that he was more at home in the worlds of Clive Barker, Stephen King, and James Herbert than he was in his own. The need to carve out his own niche in the horror genre drove Watson to slice open his mind and let the words spill onto the page.

From donuts to mysterious karaoke bars in the middle of nowhere, Watson mines the depths of the ordinary to find the evil that lurks beneath the surface. He dares you to join him in his ongoing forays into the dark side

Watson is the author of Karaoke Night, Crueller, and Off The Grid.

Not anywhere near what I was expecting, this book was truly a treat to read. Starting in Whitechapel England 1891 this story of a cursed family ends in Atlanta Georgia in 2020 with a supernatural battle to end the curse. I couldn't put this down, just like all the other books I've read from Watson.

I have been eager to read more from John Watson. He is extremely talented and I was very curious to see how he would blend his style into the Donut Shop series.
From the very beginning I could feel the haunting quality of this book. It was creepy and frightening in all the right places and had me wanting to know what was going to happen next. As secrets revealed themselves, I was held rapt by the truths and the pending outcomes. The end of the first section laid it all on the line and was chilling to say the least.
From that point on, things were off to a fast pace and I was entertained up until the very dramatic end. This was a great read and a very unique contribution to the Donut Shop series.

I was first introduced to Author John Watson’s work whilst browsing for something to read, knowing full well I suffered from a short-term reader’s block. I came across “Be Kind, Rewind” and settled in for another TBR, but was pleasantly surprised when I ended up reading it in one night. Here I found a sample of Crueller at the back of the book.

I quickly became engrossed in this story as well. The characters were intriguing and dark, the main character’s plight heartbreaking and disturbing. This story lacks nothing as it drew me in for a horrific ride.

I will be reading the next offering by this author.

Crueller is a deadly combination of horror, paranormal and romance. This was a very enjoyable story to read. I was 100% engrossed; the trance was only broken by the ending of each chapter. The entire book was vividly written, played like a movie on the big screen. So far, this is my favorite book by this author.

Once again Watson creates a remarkable story filled with horror and suspense. His descriptive nature will leave you feeling like you have front row seats. From the cobbled streets to the flickering streetlamps, meeting Ladislaus and learning the family secrets. Every bit of this story was amazing and compelling. Watson provides a great build up throughout the entire book and delivers an intense and unexpected ending.

Mr Watson can spin a story like no other. If you're into reading what dreams are made of, I HIGHLY recommend this author to you.
I'm always trying to predict the outcome of his books and failing miserably. That's what makes his books stand out.

This was a great read and wish it had been longer. This book had plenty of twists and turns in it up until the end which you don't want to miss.

I look forward to getting stuck into the next book.
