Becoming part of the Bennett empire wasn’t part of Adam’s plan, or his choice. In fact, it was the opposite of any life plan he might have had. Recovering from a failed relationship, he was looking to build his PI business, and make enough cash to fund his newly simple life.

But when the Bennett brothers demanded that he take on an urgent case for them, he had no choice but to cross paths with her again. And this time, he just couldn’t stay away. Even if he couldn’t be honest with her about anything.

Julie had always been troubled, always struggled with the basic, simple task of even liking herself. When her closest friend disappeared without a trace, she was left without her small support network, and fell back into a pattern of destructive behaviour. Her attempts to find her missing friend put her right in the path of an older man, who seemed to be everything she’d been looking for. Unfortunately it also put her in the path of lies, pain, and terror.

Can Adam remain true to himself, while under the thumb of the Bennetts, and having to lie to Julie, every second of every day? Can Julie ever trust the man who has quickly become her everything, all the while being drawn closer and closer to an event that none of them might survive?

This is a dark romance story, featuring content which may not suit all readers, or may be triggering. It is a standalone book, with HEA, and the characters will appear again in a future book, but will not be the focus of that book.

    I have been following Mia Fury since At Their Mercy- the first Bennett Crime Book- and this book is the exact level of amazing I have come to expect.

    Adam- oh dear Adam- your mouth really gets you into some jams doesn't it? Sweet Julie- maybe she can talk some sense into you. This story starts out 90 to nothing and it is a thrill ride from start to finish. I love how the dynamics are growing between all the main characters and that you never know when Adam is going to get his ass handed to him because he just. can't. shut. up. Julie is the perfect match for Adam and his determination. The perfect alpha male to watch over her.

    I am so excited for the next book in this series- I hear it is going to be a good one!

    This book is not for everyone- please read the trigger warnings- but if you love age gap, crime bosses, snarky, witty humor then this series might be for you!

    I've been öbşessed with the Bennett world since I read At Their Mercy, and this book has taken my öbşession even deeper.

    This book is such a great blend of heat, heart and humor. If you've read the other books in the series, you're very familiar with Adam and the trouble his mouth can get him into. The man simply can't help himself, but don't worry, his mouth is good for alot more than smartaşş comments that will crack you up 🥵

    He's protective and has a good heart, despite the world he's caught up in. When he meets Julie he's instantly drawn to her. She's beautiful and kind yet there's a sadness beneath her surface. Both have their secrets and pasts and the details adds such a beautiful layer to their characters and their relationship. There are definitely moments that are heartbreaking (heed the trigger warnings), but it's handled so beautifully by the author. Another amazing read by this author.
