4.2 out of 5 stars 90 ratings

One cupid, two calamities, four uproarious lovers. Insta-love meets insta-disaster in these laugh-out-loud Valentine’s day novellas.

Animal Attraction - by Evie Alexander

Overworked, underpaid, and perpetually single, Laurie is stuck in a rut. A birthday on Valentine’s day is bad enough, but when her insensitive colleagues drag her to a secret Safari dining experience, her day hits rock bottom - she’s terrified of animals.

Workaholic Ben has just swapped the States for Somerset. He’s on track to fulfil a childhood dream, and the only date he wants on Valentine’s day is a business one. But when his fantasy woman approaches with an offer he can’t refuse, his priorities start to change.

Laurie and Ben have an instant connection and their chemistry is wild. Unfortunately so are the animals. When the menagerie goes into meltdown they’re thrown into a Darwinian Hunger Games, fighting for their lives as well as love. Can Businessman Ben unleash his inner Tarzan and save Laurie? Or has this survival of the fittest reached the point of no return?

Stupid Cupid - by Kelly Kay

Resourceful Sabrina always puts others' needs first. She never thought she’d be abandoning a blind date to run off with a stranger. But now she’s got the chance to face her demons and choose happiness – even if it’s just for one night.

Charmer Patrick can make any situation work in his favor. But snark and humor won’t be enough to win Sabrina’s heart. He’s got to dig deep, open up, and take on fate as well as New York City.

Armed with a fire extinguisher, a cobbler’s hammer, and an EpiPen, can Patrick and Sabrina survive the worst-best date of their lives and find true love? Or will they lose each other as well as the plot?

Evie and Kelly’s Holiday Disasters are a series of hot and hilarious romantic comedies with interconnected characters, focusing on one holiday and one trope at a time. No cheating, no cliff-hangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after (HEA).

Review

If you don't like to snort, spit-take and laugh out loud then do not read this. Evie Alexander and Kelly Kay have given us two hilarious stories that you are going to love. And the best part is that this is only the beginning!

These are novellas so they are quick but that doesn't mean there's no substance, even with the time frames you are still going to get great characters to fall in love with and some old friends to visit with too!

Grab this duet, and spend Valentine's Day with these characters. You are going to love them!

I had "tears" dangerously close to running down my legs at one point. This book is so hilarious that I stopped reading it about an hour ago, and I'm laughing as I write this review. In fact, I just stopped typing, stared off into space, shook my head and uttered, "What the f**k?" while laughing.

A lot of people read books and say things like, "This should be a movie!" The entire time I read this, I thought, "Dear Lord, someone make this into a Broadway play right now!" Lin Manuel Miranda can score it. As long as you could get the animal handling correct for the first part, that is. Who knows, maybe they could "Lion King" this and make actors play the animals?

if you like romantic comedy with a dash of "What the hell did I just read and why do I love it so much?" grab this one. Both of the authors did an outstanding job with their stories, and they're the first laugh-out-loud stories I've read in years. It's a quick read, and will absolutely liven up your Valentine's Day.

About the Author

Kelly is a writer of modern, funny, and fun romance, married to a writer, mother of a creative dynamo of a ten-year-old boy and is currently a little sleepy! She's a klutz and goofball and loves lipstick as much as her Chuck Taylors. Good things in Kelly's world include pepperoni pizza, Flair pens, wine, coffee, laughing with friends until her stomach hurts, a musician at the top of their game, matinee movies on a weekday, the Chicago Cubs, a fresh new notebook full of possibilities, bourbon on a cold night, Fantasy Football, witty men, walking through the local zoo in the rain and that moment when a character clicks in and begins to write their own adventure.

Evie Alexander is the author of sexy romantic comedies with a very British sense of humour. She takes a method approach to her work, believing her capacity to repeatedly fail at life and love is what has given her such a rich supply of material for her writing. Her interests include reading, eating, saving the world, and fantasising about people who only exist between the pages of her books. She lives in the West country with her family.

A hilarious tale of not so nightmarish dates.
5 out of 5 stars
A hilarious tale of not so nightmarish dates.
What could go wrong when everything already went down … Rory, I know as he is Evie’s Highland Games’ hero, the grumpy yummy highlander Tabi whom I googled thinking at first it was some mythical character/famous impersonating like Bigfoot or Cheerleader I did not know, sorry I’m French so I do not have the same “references “ and thus I discover she is some WowWow heroine from the author’s world. (Will need to check these novels : Over a Barrel and Under the Bus) So with Rory and Tabi, the authors connected their universe to merge into one. So the first story sees Ben, a British guy going back home who meet Rory and Tabi during an outage at the airport before his return flight to the UK. He is hoping for his big break now he is back to his roots. Then there is Laurie, the maid of all work in her firm, sorry too much historical romances, still she is the MacGyver of her company, giving everyone’s failures, flaws and even doing their job. Their meet and greet was crazy, hilarious and intense. But comes morning, how will they make it last. Loved it, and now wants to learn more about them. And Oh my! The group chats are priceless. Sabrina is the Cheerleader from the chat group, the girl who is too much or not enough. Now she is in for a blind date, one she would readily cancel, even more when she sights the man of her dream waiting his own date. Patrick knew it was not his best idea when he agreed to this rendezvous, especially when he glances at a woman who is absolutely the date he wants for this special night. And what a night it will turn to be, from disaster to catastrophe, every unimaginable calamities befall on them. A rollercoaster night to cement or tear apart these two. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 hot hot 4.5 stars I have been granted an advance copy by the authors, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Could not stop giggling while read both stories. I'm a big fan of Evie Alexander's books but have never read Kelly Kay's, I'm definitely going to pick up her books. Six strangers bond over wine while they're stranded in a Chicago Airport. Each other writes one of the characters story. Bens story is written by Evie and Kelly writes Sabrina's. Both Ben and Sabrina are up to find love on Valentines Day. If something could go wrong it does in each of their stories but you knowlore always finds away.

Two fun romps. A little too much of the f word for my tastes (why do do so many authors rely on this word), but at least there were no typos - that I noticed, anyway, although comma usage was a bit suspect in places, so it gets a star just for that.

I absolutely loved these two stories! Insta-love and mayhem are a perfect combo and I thoroughly enjoyed each one! Loved the premise of these characters meeting each other at an airport and continuing their friendship via text and I loved the smart, snarky banter between the MC’s in each story. I’m looking forward to reading the next set of stories from these authors 😍

Two absolutely bonkers, hilarious and steamy novellas that will have you laughing-out-loud at the Valentine-themed chaos endured by two love-at-first-sight couples. From rogue hippos to allergic reactions (think Will Smith in Hitch) and text chains with strangers-turned-friends I cannot wait to see what fate has in store for the next couples in this group of unlikely friends.

Two days before Valentine's Day, a group of six strangers becomes unlikely friends after getting stuck in an airport lounge together. This book follows two of those characters through interconnected novellas as they find love in the midst of disaster.

In the first story, "Animal Attraction" by Evie Alexander, main characters Ben and Laurie meet in a safari-themed restaurant on Valentine's Day. He's all alone after being stood up by a business associate, while she's out with two work colleagues to celebrate her birthday. When Laurie's friends dare her to ask Ben out, she does it mainly to prove that she's not the boring rule-follower everyone thinks. They barely have a chance to explore their instant connection before the restaurant erupts into chaos thanks to a group of animals gone berserk. Can they make it through together?

Honestly, I wasn't quite sure what to make of this story at first because it just seemed so over the top, but I ended up really liking it. The safari restaurant was completely insane! It was hilarious to read about, but much like Laurie, I would be terrified to go there in real life. Laurie and Ben were super cute together, however, and it was easy to root for them to overcome the challenges they faced and find a way to be together.

In the second story, "Stupid Cupid" by Kelly Kay, Sabrina is headed to New York City for a visit. She was looking forward to hanging out with her nieces, but instead, her sister set her up on a blind date for Valentine's Day. Patrick is also supposed to be on a blind date, but with another woman in the same restaurant. He notices Sabrina as soon as he arrives. She's definitely not the woman he's supposed to meet because she's wearing the wrong color dress, but he decides he has to speak with her anyway. Unfortunately, meeting each other was the only lucky thing about their night; after that was nothing but a comedy of errors. Sabrina and Patrick just could not seem to catch a break, but I loved that they didn't give up.

Both stories were a ton of fun and I would recommend this book for all romantic comedy fans. I can't wait to find out what happens in the next installment of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous in the best possible way

I didn't want either of these stories to end - they were such a hoot! I was literally laughing-out-loud reading this book in bed, and having to stop and read out passages aloud to my husband so he didn't think I was completely crazy.

The situations, characters, narrative and dialogue were ridiculous in the best possible way. From broken pallets and fizzing drinks to broken high heels and gloves glued to the bottom of shoes, from being chased by stampeding wild animals to being chased by forsaken blind dates on Valentine's Day, from embarrassing name combinations (would you choose Laurie Driver or Ben Dover?) to allergic reactions at the worst possible time, this book has it all. And I just loved, loved, loved the way the characters were connected and how those connections also linked with both authors' previous (and future?) novels.

I'm so looking forward to the next instalment in this series.

Cupid Calamity includes two fun, lighthearted and entertaining tales, which are great for escaping reality!
Both stories had lots of laugh out loud moments, plus plenty of steam! 🔥
And if you’ve read Highland Games by Evie Alexander, you’ll enjoy the cameo from hunky Rory even more!
Looking forward to the next book in the series!
