Cancer will touch all of our lives at one point or another. It may affect someone you know, someone you respect, or even someone you love. In the case of the Cutters, it has systematically invaded every cell of their daughter's body. When the doctors admit there is nothing they can do, the Cutters bring their daughter home and prepare to wait for the inevitable.

Just as they accept defeat, a mysterious doctor appears at their door, offering a miraculous cure and kindling hope in their hearts. The only catch? The Cutters have to decide what is more important, their daughter's life, or her soul.

This is the third book I have read, by this great author, so I recommend your check out his back catalogue of horror!

What a great read, from the Foreword, about his inspiration for the story, The Prologue, which sets up the background for the "Big Bad", right through to the a action packed ending.

This book is about a child dying from leukemia and a stranger arrives and offers to save her, but....at what cost...?

Every parents worst nightmare, the imminent death of their child is the background.
When all hope is lost, what would you do, to save the life of your child?

The set up for the story is great, as you meet the parents and daughter in the hospital, as the doctor explains to the parents that they can do no more for the child, so they elect to take their child home.

As the illness progresses, the lethargy and sadness of the child is excellently juxtaposed with her brothers boisterous lively antics and the balancing act of the parents trying to get on with their life and mind the children equally.
The rest of the book is their descent into the hellish nightmare of what they have unleashed after accepting a stranger's help.

All the characters are well drawn and their motivations always remain true to form and this is great, because, while this is a stand-alone novel, there is a hint at the end, that there may be a sequel and I for one, want to know more about these characters and how their stories progress!

    A great story, well told!

Cancer is a horrible thing...now you couple it with complications and decisions! Great read.

Jacy Morris has become one of my favorite writers for several reasons, and this book clearly illustrates one of them. He can take a tried and true (and sometimes stale) horror theme, turn it on its head, and breathe new life into it. It's so fun to read an old trope that has become brand new! Devastated parents whose daughter is dying are given a glimmer of hope by a shady character, and a choice to either do nothing or to commit an atrocity that might save that child. If it doesn't work, well, there are worse things than dying.

Great heartbreaking beginning that just hooks you. And keeps you there the whole way.
