From the Author

About FinaFina Fitzgibbons is a private investigator who lives with her boyfriend, Denny, in the Vinegar Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. She mourns the recent death of her mother, sometimes with an overwhelming ache. And she hasn't forgiven her father for leaving when Fina was a child. No wonder, then, that she fears loving and losing. She's not perfect, not by a long shot. Sometimes she takes Denny for granted; sometimes she's jealous of Detective First Grade Jane Templeton; sometimes she makes snap judgments. But she's smart and gingery--just like the color of her hair--and she's got that wizard thing going on. And something else about Fina--she never, ever gives up.

This installment in the Fina Fitzgibbpns series keep me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Gina sets out to solve the mystery of her high school friends husband while at the same time she is plagued with a series of personal problems. There are also some nice twists and turns at the end. This was a very good read.

I think this one needs some careful editing. There were a lot of non sequiturs that had me reading and rereading things to figure out what the author was talking about. When I still couldn’t figure it out, I realized that either some words were missing or perhaps had gotten rearranged, or something, but there were too many of these in this book, far more than in the others. Also, when the plot needs to be explained so much at the end, I think more of it needs to be spelled out as it happens, so there are not so many questions left at the end that the characters have to discuss it to have it all make sense.

This is my first Fina Mystery, and I enjoyed it tremendously! I loved the details given of the characters. It was especially nice to have it in the 5th of a series. Because of the details of each character, this story is great as a stand alone novel.

The one character that didn't get proper attention was Fina's husband Denny. Throughout the story, the reader is told about Denny grieving his father. As the story wraps up loose ends, I feel that the situation with Denny should have been clarified.
