Daddy Issues (North Shore Stories Book 2) Kindle Edition
Ryan Chadwick seems to live a charmed life, but underneath his polished veneer of arrogance and success, he’s miserable. Ryan feels increasingly like his carefully constructed life is spinning out of control. All it'll take is one little push to bring his world crashing down around him.
Marek and Ryan clash again and again, causing Ryan to further question who he is and what he wants. Marek brings out a side in him he didn't know existed, a side that wants to please and obey. Marek’s desire to teach Ryan a lesson in humility becomes, over time, a lesson to show Ryan that who, and what, he wants isn't shameful.
Two very different men come together and discover that what you want, and what you need, aren't always the same thing. They find that you need to pace yourself at a Polish dinner, how building snowmen is not rocket science, that a mansion on a lake doesn't guarantee happiness, and most of all, the importance of letting go.
Daddy Issues is a 90,000 word steamy romance in the North Shore Stories series. It contains BDSM elements, fisting, a blanket fort, an embarrassing butt plug, lots of food, and a HEA. This book follows Be My Mistake and Damage Control, but can be read as a stand-alone novel.

About the author

Lynn Van Dorn was born in Ohio and left it for the wilds of Chicago in her reckless youth. She wanted to become a fairy princess when she grew up, but since there are few openings for that position, she makes do with being a writer.
In her spare time, she drinks entirely too much tea, snugs her cats, fills her house with flamingos, loves her husband and son, reads voraciously, and avoids housework. She loves to watch anime, travel, knit, bake cookies, and conjure up happy every afters for handsome men who have trouble getting there on their own.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2018I want to hug Ryan. This is only the second book I've read by Lynn Van Dorn. I'll admit it, I have all of her books but haven't sat down to read them. When I saw she was writing Daddy Issues, and read all the teasers she posted I was excited and dying to get my hands on it.
I can say with absolute certainty that I am glad that I made this book my first full-length Lynn Van Dorn read. It was perfect, and sweet in places, hot and intense in others. It made my heart ache and I wanted to snatch Ryan up and hug him because he deserves all the love in the world.
Marek is perfect. He was just what Ryan needed. Sweet, commanding, patient, and caring. He didn't let Ryan get away with anything, he understood why Ryan was the person he was. He didn't try to fix him or change him, he just accepted and loved him and showed him that it was okay to be who he was. That it was okay to feel the things he felt.
My heart ached for Ryan. He deserved so much love. I hated that he was looking for it in the wrong place for a good portion of the book (no spoilers). When he and Marek begin exploring things in the bedroom my heart soared, because he got to let go and just be.
Ryan's submission was a beautiful thing because it was something he needed--but didn't want at first. His resistance only made his surrender and acceptance that much sweeter. All Marek wanted to do was break him. Break him and help him escape his head for a little while. Neither man expected it to be more. I loved it. Even though everything in Ryan's life was complicated, even though nothing about Ryan and Marek made sense or was easy--it just was.
From the D/s aspects of their relationship, to the way Marek said "I love you", to Ryan's more or less "coming out". Everything was easy and yet not. I think, that's the true testament of how much they needed and loved each other. Because even though there was nothing but complications in their way they made it work and found a way to make loving each other very easy.
Lynna Van Dorn brought two people together, who many not have wanted each other at first, but needed each other anyway. Daddy Issues has become one of my favorite reads of the year. And I do not say that lightly
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2024This is the third book in the series I have read. All three have good stories that I enjoyed reading. They are not all sweet and happy. There is some darkness here, but good men get HEA.
This one, unlike the preceding two, is an editorial/typesetting mess. The worst is the paragraph errors. Both paragraphs running together, sometimes fusing quotes from different characters, and paragraph breaks mid sentence and/or mid quote. There are also quotes opening with close quotes or closing with open quotes. Although this is easy to mentally correct, it is distracting and annoying. There are also a few editorial errors of the type where characters are misnamed. Again, with careful reading this can be quickly mentally corrected. Or with uncarefull reading probably not noticed.
Hopefully, a new corrected edition will be released.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2018Ryan is a people pleaser. His complete life has been mapped out for him by his father. Hiding who he really is, or what he really wants, he's completely miserable. Soon he feels that his life is out of control. His father gets worse, his fiance leaves him, his world is crumbling. Marek is a nurse who is hired as a live in care for Ryan's father. Marek finds out his biggest obstacle in caring for his cranky patient is Ryan. Marek is determined to teach Ryan to listen. With each lesson, Ryan's confusion about who he is and what he wants increases. Marek just wants to teach him to be who he is. That there is nothing shameful in it. Ryan struggles with who he should be and what he wants. It's an emotional rollercoaster that Marek helps him through. Ryan and Marek are perfect together. They struggle to find their place and who they really are together is absolutely amazing. With laughter and tears this book is a definite one click. Though it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. You will better understand the side characters but not necessary to fully understand this book. If you haven't read this series it is a definite must. A one setting read. Would I reccomend this book? Yes. Would I read it again? Yes.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2018Ryan is engaged to a woman he really doesn’t want to marry. Chasing a man who doesn’t want him. He feels worthless, he just wants to be loved and wanted. He loves his brothers but even they don’t quite understand him. One brother is engaged to the man Ryan thought he loved. The other has very few expectations for him. He desperately wants his fathers approval, even though the man is an abusive bigot. He thinks if he can get his fathers approval his life will magically improve.
His father has a stroke and Marek is hired as a live in nurse. Marek knows who Ryan is and isn’t impressed with him. In the beginning Marek just wanted to teach him a lesson, but very quickly he learns that beneath the arrogant exterior is a very damaged man. He realizes that Ryan just needs someone to see him, to praise and punish him in equal parts. When Ryan cedes control to Marek he is at peace for the first time in his life. Before they realize it hearts are involved and both men will have to fight for what they want.
I thought this author did an excellent job of taking an unlikable, unsympathetic character and turning him into someone who deserves a happy ending. Family is at the heart of this story, those who made it better and those I wanted to kick to the curb. I enjoyed this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2018Awesome read! Started off seriously disliking Ryan but that soon changed as his story started unfolding. Peter was an atrocious father and a sorry excuse of a human being! Absolutely loved Marek and his whole family, especially grandpa. Loved this story line and OMW those sex scenes were HOT! I am sorry I read this book out of order but it did not detract from the story at all. I am now one-clicking Damage Control as I must read Tylers story. Awesome!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow up to book 1
Ryan was such an a$$ in book 1, I hoped he’d get his own book, and I was delighted to read such a turnaround in his character. Everyone needs to be loved by someone like Marek.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marek + Ryan = BDSM heaven (an audio review)
I finished Damage Control, the first book in the North Shore Stories series and literally started Daddy Issues the next day. I’d watched the closeted Ryan hurt those around him and knew I wanted him to get his comeuppance and then his redemption. (I’m a sucker for a redemption story.) Ryan’s treatment of Patrick had been appalling, and I hoped he’d respect Patrick’s wish to be left alone. But between Ryan’s neediness and Patrick’s inability to say ‘no’, then men kept falling back into destructive patterns. So harmful that health became an issue. Needless to say, I hoped their ‘final’ parting really was for good – for both their sakes.
That leaves Ryan still firmly in the closet. He’s got a fiancée, a wedding he keeps putting off, and a domineering father who can be not only cutting, but downright cruel. His treatment of Tyler in the previous book showed the man for the vicious bastard he was. Tyler broke free while Ryan remains a prisoner. As the eldest, he was expected to carry on the Chadwick legacy. And he’s done just that, working at the law firm bearing the family name. Kowtowing to his father at every turn. Being the dutiful son.
Brad, the middle son and Ryan’s brother, married Rachael in the first book. In this book they become parents and it’s clear from the beginning that Ryan is besotted with his niece. His longing is visceral. One would think he’d be in a rush to marry his fiancée, but he keeps putting things off. Finally, she’s the one who calls an end to the farce. Ryan’s father’s health becomes even more precarious and the family is forced to hire a full-time nurse. Now, technically Brad hired the nurse, so neither Ryan nor his father can fire the man.
Marek is good at what he does. He loves geriatric nursing, even if that means he knows he’s going to lose his patients. He prefers private gigs so he can dedicate all his time and resources to one person. It also leaves him free on Sundays to spend time with his grandfather whom he adores. Marek also loves his mother, step-father, and half brother and sister. They have a tight bond and I was a bit envious. When Marek takes on the care of Peter Chadwick, he has no illusions this will be an easy job. Several nurses have been chased away. But Marek is stubborn – even more so than his new patient.
There is one hitch – Ryan. Marek and Ryan have met, although briefly, and their feelings towards each other are complex. There’s attraction, to be sure, but there’s also wariness. Soon, however, there is more. Marek is about nine years younger than Ryan, but he quickly takes the dominant role in the relationship. A relationship where Ryan refuses to say ‘red’. Now, for some submissives, this is a point of pride – never yielding, taking whatever their Top dishes out. This is also dangerous because sometimes the Dominant misses physical or emotional cues and a scene can go sideways.
All that being said, this relationship works on so many levels. Marek sees Ryan’s need to relinquish control, and Ryan recognizes the younger man will never hurt him. Leave him handcuffed, trussed, and tied to a bed? Yes. (Something I don’t recommend, but that’s a whole other story.) Leave him with marks and bruises? Yes. (In the context of consent, not abuse.) Treat him with respect and love? Yes. This quote encapsulates it perfectly:
Marek moved so Ryan was pinned under his body. He wanted more than he could express. To dominate the man under him. To make him bend. And bend. And bend. And then break. Ryan needed to shatter himself into a million pieces and build something new – something better.
Feelings develop between the men and it’s hardly surprising. They are engaged in intense play (hence the fisting) and there are hormones involved when that level of scene is undertaken. And the aftercare? Made me swoon. I knew there was going to be a happy ending for these two, but I just didn’t foresee how perfect it was going to be.
Okay, I need to take a moment to talk about the narrator, Michael Ferraiuolo. Talented doesn’t begin to describe his ability. He embodied these two men, nailing each one perfectly. Marek is also Polish and the accent worked. There were also plenty of Polish words and, to me, it sounded like Michael hit each one accurately. His performance was brilliant, and I can’t say enough good things both about him and the story. Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lynn Van Dorn is a master at pulling heart strings. So good.
Lynn Van Dorn can certainly write angst. Damage Control the first North Shore book, was all emotional pain, suffering and drama with more than enough angst to sink the USS Kitty Hawk. Damage Control was also littered with so many triggers that you'd swear you were standing in a gun range holding a Glock 22 and facing a paper target.
Then a sweet diversion, with Be My Mistake, smoking hot, hot hot, valentines day kinky love fest.
Then along came this beauty, Daddy Issues, and what a boat load of issues there were. Again a few triggers for those in need of warnings ( they largely deal with Tyler's issues from first book ) and the ongoing domestic violence theme that pervades the Chadwick clan.
Add in an emotionally tortured- guilt ridden, confused as hell, bi-sexual heir to the Chadwick fortune, a fist full of BDSM ( pun included) a controlling sexy AF younger pansexual Dom, who is a highly trained nurse, a vicious abusive father, an awful, battered family history, and a whole lotta angsty, smoking hot, kinky as hell, sexy AF horizontal times between Ryan and Marek, and Lynn Van Dorn again places herself top shelf as a stellar author.
I didn't want to like Ryan, he was a half way bastard in the first book, but book 2 and I seriously wanted to kidnap him and hug the hell outta him. His unveiling was almost a coming to jesus moment and when he prayed at the feet of Marek, who broke him down and put him back together, it was virtually impossible not to love the two men. I loved Marek, so confident, calm, controlling, forgiving and loving, he was exactly what Ryan didn't even know he needed. The two men were perfect for each other.
I adored Damage Control, fell in love with Be My Mistake, but I have to say I LOVED Daddy Issues. What a roller coaster of emotional turmoil and kinky hot sex. Word of the wise: there's a lot of kink this time around, if you love your men tortured, emotional, with more than recommended levels of angst and suffering, buffered by asbestos grade kinky as hell sexy times then your going to love Daddy Issues. Highly recommended

4.0 out of 5 stars A Tale of Redemption & a Very Good Read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this follow up to Damage Control (recommended reading before this), and read it in two sittings. It is very well written and tells the story of Ryan, the eldest of the Chadwick brothers, and one of the bad guys from Damage Control (hence recommended reading before this). Considering Ryan's role in Damage Control, despite the hints at some major issues with him, he was easy to dislike, so the fact that the author turned his character round so convincingly is all credit to her writing.
So why the 4 & not 5 star rating? Well for me it boils down to one major problem I have with the book: that of BDSM being used as therapy. Ryan's character is a very messed up one. He really has deep-seated Daddy issues caused by a trauma he witnessed, and years of emotional abuse from the same man. Ryan needed therapy and whilst it was something that Tyler sought, it wasn't really mentioned for Ryan. Instead it was the magic d*** of Marek & his sheer force of personality that 'cured' Ryan. To me, that was not right - Ryan needed proper help. It also feeds my lack of taste for BDSM books/lifestyle (each to their own, but it's not something I get).
All that aside, it's a tale of Ryan's redemption and freeing from the ties of his father's hatred & abuse. And this was (as previously stated), exceedingly well done & well written. Your heart broke for Ryan at times, and the fact that no one saw him for the pain he was in, nor understood him. Yes, he did hateful things, but there were reasons. For the author to write his redemption in such a way that you had sympathy for him was for me the heart of the book. There were laugh out loud moments too amongst the angst, even moments where I shut my Kindle in a laughing-but-cringing-with-embarrassment (for Ryan) moments (it involves Ryan, a plug & Brad - you'll get it when you read it!). As for Marek, despite my reservations of the BDSM aspects, he was likeable and his family such a contrast to Ryan's & the Chadwicks. I'd have liked the care & building of the first half of the novel to have lasted throughout as for me, the second half & Marek's feelings appeared rushed, but these are minor quibbles really.
All in all, a very good read, with a very sweet (sickly?) happy ever after for Ryan. Perhaps he really deserved this though. Good to catch up with the acerbic tongue of Tyler too, though his status for favourite Chadwick brother is being challenged by Ryan now. Go read & make up your mind for yourself though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I can't get enough of Lynn Van Dorn's writing and when I saw that the next book in the North Shore Stories series had been released I was eager to begin reading.
Daddy Issues did not disappoint with the same captivating appeal of the first in this series I couldn't put it down once I had started. I loved Marek with his steadfast confidence and wonderful family. Ryan surprised me with his vulnerability and need for love and acceptance.
There are some deeper issues dealt with in this book - domestic violence, emotional and physical abuse as well as Ryan dealing with his confusion and guilt surrounding his sexuality but through it all is their blossoming relationship. At times heartbreaking, others heartwarming I loved this from beginning to end!
