XOXO (The Calvettis of New York Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 3,085 ratings

This is how the worst Friday of my life started…

Subject: The Dick

Hey Sinclair,

Mr. Calvetti is as ornery as ever today.

He scolded me for taking a message from a woman who asked me to pass along this to him – “your lips are the purest form of pleasure this side of the Mississippi!”

She may not be a poet, but she is obviously head over heels for him, so I thought I’d play cupid and give him the message.

Dominick (The Dick) Calvetti told me once again to ignore all messages women leave for him.

He’s a cruel bastard with a gorgeous face and rock hard abs. I imagine he has those. He’s 6’3” and works out every morning. He has to be built under those suits, right? I know that the nickname I gave him is based on his attitude, but I sometimes wonder if it “fits” in other ways if you know what I mean. Even if it does, I still loathe him. He’s the worst boss on both sides of the Mississippi.

I attached a picture of the lingerie I bought for my date tonight. I snapped a selfie in the mirror this morning since you were still asleep.

Let me know what you think, roomie.

Arietta xoxo

P.S. Tomorrow we’re getting you a new phone. I miss texting. Emailing is for old people like The Dick.

Subject: Re: The Dick

Miss Voss,

Thank you for your email.

I hardly think 34 is considered old, and for the record, I’m 6’4”.

Details matter. Sending an email to the intended recipient matters more, especially when you include a sensitive image exposing so much of your body.

Also, cancel your date, as you will now be working late tonight.

And report to my office. Immediately.

Signed,
THE DICK

My all time favorite from this author was the first one in the Ruin series. I enjoyed XOXO, and found it was a milder version of her writings. The leads were enjoyable and it had a great supporting cast. It has minimal angst and nicely depicted steamy scenes. The age gap thing doesn't usually appeal to me, but it seemed acceptable in this case. The ONLY reason I didn't give it 5 was due to being...well, a milder version! It was great and I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed this book. Arietta was sweet and everything you’d expect from a “sunshine” character. Dominick was everything you’d expect from an Alpha-hole billionaire boss. I liked how she brought out the best in him but I was a little bummed he didn’t really notice her much until after he got the email. Still I thought it was a resale good read.

The book itself is well written and the characters are well described. There is character development and the plot is interesting. My biggest issue is the over the top sweetness and naivety of Arietti. It was too much, the over sized vintage clothing thats very conservative, dorky glases always falling down, messy bun hair and overly charming. To top it off she's only had a couple of sexual partners and never the BIG "O", shes practically a virgin. I dont find anything wrong with a woman like, heck i am a woman like that. But, by contrast all the women Dominic was with were strong sexual and indendent women confident in there sexuality in seeking pleasure. These women are portrayed as slutty psycho ( women walks naked through his office), desperate stalker (woman calles repeatedly and leaves inappropriate messages with his secretary ie Ariette). It goes on and on seriously but the message is very clear that only virginal and innocent women are good and deserve HEA while women who enjoy sex are sluts who deserved what they get. Also Dominic was a total man slut and i didn't appreciate all the flash backs of him with other women, not graphically but still dont want to the reminders. Total double standard that sexual men are acceptable while women arent. Its a strong theme in alot of authors work that i wish would change its so out dated. Why couldn't Ariettie have a revolving door of men? She's 22 gorgeous, fun and sweet why does she have be sex deprived inorder to be worthy of love but Dominic didn't thats all im sayin. The story is also slow moving, its not boring but nothing physical happens until the 75%mark then everything kinda rushes to the finish line. The complete 180 that Dominic does so quickly is a little unbelievable and the ending is very cheesy. Its sweet and enjoyable. Ariettie is a strong woman in her own right and i liked the kindness so often lacking in this world. I just dont like shaming women for being as sexual as men. I will continue to read work though.

I just adored this story for so many reasons. The grumpy, hot boss and uber efficient, beautiful PA is always going to get my attention, but what makes XOXO so memorable is how the characters are revealed later by layer. You think the person can’t get any more amazing as a human being, and then they do.

One of the parts I particularly enjoy is Arietta having to screen Dominik’s calls to weed out the ones from his one-night stands. I enjoy it because of how it comes up later in the story.

This is just a really romantic story with its eventual passionate moments between two very unique, but noteworthy people. The secondary characters are there to reinforce meaningful relationships. I bought and read it in one sitting. Enjoy!

This was a sweet contemporary romance (boss trope)
Arietta is a sweet heart- throughout the whole book. I love her accidental email and how Dom takes it. Their emails back and forward are sweet. The mistakes she makes are things that people do in real life, which made it easier to connect with the story line.
There's plenty of secrets that are somewhat hinted at and leave you guessing the whole book ( I don't want to give anything away)
I did not notice any errors- so if there is any they are minor and didn't take away from the story.
If you enjoy contemporary- fall in love with the boss- romances, this is a good book for you.

    Happy reading

Wow what a beautiful love story of Arietta and Dominick absolutely loved it.She is so sweet caring and giving he is hot to sure of himself totally a shrewd business man. But Arietta brings out the good in Dominick. Love how you have people from your other books especially Calvetti's and Marti! Also the vintage shop where she ran into the client who Dominick desperately wanted and Arietta impressed her so much with kindness in the brooch she gave her. And her my life to do list that Dominick saw and helped her with, epically with her date Lowlife what he called him I know I'm all over the place with this review but loved how they got together and the red and pink roses from Wild Lilac and the song Precious Beats by Asher Foster they both loved that Dominick played when he proposed to Arietta!! Absolutely amazing book a must read for all you are amazing Deborah Boston!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Adored this story! Fun, funny, sexy and sweet!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 16, 2021
I’ve been wanting to try this author for a while now and when I read the blurb for this story, I just snapped it right up!

”Dominick Calvetti doesn’t have a soul. Greed sits in the place where his soul should be.”

Arietta Voss is a very capable 22YO with a genius IQ and a penchant for all things vintage. She’s the executive assistant to Dominick Calvetti. He’s a hard taskmaster and mean with his praise, smiles and gratitude. When Arietta accidentally sends him a rather inappropriate email intended for her best friend, it kicks off an awareness between them.

”I’ve looked at the picture of Arietta in her lingerie three times since I first opened the email. Deleting it would be the right thing to do, but I have never done the right thing, so why start now?”

Dominick is twelve years older than his assistant and has always been focused on achieving success and accumulating wealth. He’s content with one-night-stands and no repeats. He chose Arietta as his EA for a reason – she puts minimal effort into her appearance and unlikely to be snapped up by an interested guy, like his previous assistants. However, he’s baffled when he starts noticing things about her himself – and, let’s not talk about that photo of her in sexy lingerie that she sent him by mistake! Who knew she was hiding a banging body under those weird clothes? All of a sudden, she’s all he can see.

”I know exactly how I want to be repaid. It starts with those lips of hers. I want them on mine.”

Absolutely loved this story! It was fun, funny, sexy and sweet. I loved the dynamic between Arietta and Dominick, as EA and boss, as well as when they crossed the line into something more. They had chemistry for days! Dominick was a hella hot dude but also surprisingly soft and sentimental. He was such a decent guy under his tough boss persona – I loved finding out about all the great things he did and his relationship with his family. Arietta was one in a million. She was kind, thoughtful and insightful. She had a way about her that people loved, including me! I enjoyed her effect on Dominick and how she brought joy to his life. Overall, a fantastic, low-angst read, and can’t wait to read more by this author.

I hate writing reviews because they mean I have to stop reading and I cannot dive into my next book. So, it's saying something that I'm stopping to write this review about the lovely Arietta who is goodness in her every word, action, and eccentricity. To balance out this delightful heroine Ms. Bladon gives us Dominick: a money driven, super alfa who's going to topple fast as he realizes he needs to hold up Arietta in any way she'll let him. The epilogue here is every word every woman has ever wanted to hear from her love!

Arietta is such a great character, I love her genuine kindness, her vintage style and her passion for life.
The sexual tension throughout this book is great, love the emails and the twists along the way.
Overall, yet another fantastic book by this author, you honestly can’t help but fall into the book - I couldn’t put it down until the very end.
