Dancing in the Dark: A Novella (Shadow Heroes) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 143 ratings

What if you discovered all you ever wanted were the things you left behind?

CIA Paramilitary Operator Matt Kincaid is back in tiny Walton Springs, only to find Janey Blackmon waiting to ask him a favor. Matt's not there to reminisce with the girl he's never forgotten...and he's definitely not there to divulge government secrets about her missing brother.

Ten years and Janey hasn't forgotten the love of her life...or that he abandoned her on prom night. Bound by duty and honor, he was shipped out to parts unknown by Uncle Sam. But she knew he'd go because adventure is in Matt's blood. Being stuck in a small town with plain Jane the librarian wasn't ever in his plans.

Trapped by a flood, with no phone or power, desire tempts them both. Will passion—and Matt's offer to recreate prom night—lead to a future together? Or are they just dancing in the dark?

This story is a great short quick read, but it didn't need to be any longer. The characters were genuine and have the chemistry required for a fabulously steamy romance.

Matt Kincaid is a CIA agent and has come home to his mom’s for short break after an oversea op. After a nap he awakes to find the power out, a flood rising, and the girl he left behind. Matt was joining the service and he couldn't promise her more than today. He felt that was no life for Janey, so he walked away from her. While many years have passed there still is a strong connection between the two.

Janey has become the Librarian in the small town. While she has had a crush on Matt her whole life, and he was crazy about her, neither one knew how the other felt. As a friend of Matt’s mother, Janey wanted to see if Matt can find out about her brother who is also a CIA agent but is apparently missing.

Janey is strong, understanding, and considerate and went after what she wanted. What she wanted in this case just happened to be Matt. She is no simpering female.

Matt is a caring, and considerate male who’s shortcoming is not giving Janey a chance to decide if she wants the kind of life he has to offer. For many years he has just made the decision to not let her decide.

Now with the flood and power out, forcing them together, these two must deal with their unrequited love.

Good strong characters make for a good book, I highly recommend this and can assure you some good reading. This one has a HEA that you will love.

A low key suspense story about two former childhood friends who reconnect several years later during a tropical storm. Matt is a CIA agent who came back to visit his family and Jamey is looking for information about her missing brother. Reads more like a slow moving romance.

Great story. Very interesting character and plot developments. A new author to me. I really enjoyed this book! I now need to read the rest of her books.

My first read from author Virginia Kelly. I’d received an ARC for Whatever it Takes and since I already owned this, the first book in the series, I decided to read it first. A pure well-written romance with just a suggestion of suspense.

While Matt and Janey were figuring out how to tell each other how they felt, life throws them the unexpected and love wins in the end, I loved this book and read it in one sitting, I just could not put it down, thanks, can't wait to read the next 2 books in the series

Virginia Kelly has given us another of her intensely romantic stories in Dancing in the Dark. Covert agent Matt Kincaid is back in town and runs into Janie Blackmon, the girl he abandoned on prom night but never forgot. What ensues is a touching and very sensual reunion not to be missed. My only regret was this story was so short.

Great book. Virginia has a way of writing explosive sexual moments without it being smutty. The best part is the erotica blends beautifully with the story, to show that love can be the catalyst for change which we did not realise we needed. Worth each and every five stars.

Interesting story and I enjoyed it very much.

Felt the two characters were real and so pleased they were able to fall in love and make a success of their lives even though they were "poles apart" at the beginning of the story.
