There’s unrest among the miners. Desperation sets in for the Company Man. One wrong decision will destroy her career. The sheriff doesn’t care about any of that. There are strangers in town. One or all of them may be enemies. And how does a mysterious runaway fit into the picture?
Assisted by his friends and a strange pig-dog-thing that won’t stop following him, Thaddeus Fry must bring law and order to a frontier world completely unconcerned with justice or fairness. Gunfights solved problems. Or they didn’t. This time his adversary is stacking the deck against him to make sure Darklanding fails completely. Thaddeus fought a war in a harsher place against a more determined foe, but Darklanding is giving Centauri Prime a run for its money.

About the authors
Thanks for checking out my Amazon landing page. Please click FOLLOW to keep up with my prolific launch schedule. I can’t do this without a whole bunch of amazing readers.
Scott Moon is the co-author of the bestselling Homeworld Lost, The Last Reaper, Terran Strike Marines, and Darklanding series. His solo works include Blue Sun Armada, Invasion Day, the Chronicles of Kin Roland, and more. As a lifelong fan of reading and a chronic daydreamer, he has retired from twenty-six years of public service to make his own schedule, indulge his imagination, and pursue a variety of hobbies. He’s an 80s kid who survived to (relative) maturity and it shows.
You can join his Facebook Group, The Scott Moon Base, or learn more than you ever wanted to about his writing process at Scott’s Science Fiction Substack.
Craig is a million-selling author of science fiction (post-apocalyptic, military sci-fi, and space opera), thrillers, and non-fiction.
Craig retired from the Marine Corps after a long career in the military intelligence community, having worked with most of the U.S. Government's three-letter agencies. After a short stint with physical security, Craig went to law school, graduated summa cum laude, and went into business consulting. From intelligence, to the inner workings of company board rooms, to on-the-ground leadership, Craig has seen it firsthand.
His books are an extension of his experience, putting the trials and tribulations of a fast-paced world into your hands. Whether in Science Fiction, Thrillers, Fantasy, or even his Non-Fiction, you'll find consistent themes of justice and doing right by those who are counting on their leaders. Leadership is a service, not a crown to lord over others.
No matter where Craig went, he always had a book with him. Thanks to 21st Century technology, He now has thousands of books at his fingertips and with him wherever he goes. How many books would he have read on deployments had he not had to carry a physical book?
No one is encumbered like that now. Craig loves the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. He has been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, Craig aspires to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared him to.
Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife get to watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run, just until temperatures reach fifty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It’s all part of the give and take of life. If they didn’t have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2018This, the second book in the Darklanding series, was every bit as good as the first.
Lots of intrigue, action and colorful characters.
Even though this is definitely a sci-fi, it’s also a western complete with a sherif and deputy that has his low slung sidearm ready to have a noon showdown.
These aren’t spoilers, I’m just giving you the atmosphere.
This is awesome entertainment that brings comparisons to Firefly and Clint Eastwood westerns but with spaceports and spaceships.
It has a wonderful way of incorporating corporate politics and labor negotiations but without it being a bore.
The environment plays such an important part of the story also. A miserable backwater planet that only those who need to escape from something would go to for work.
It has everything you’d want in a powder keg ready to blow.
If you like something different that keeps you wanting to turn the pages then by all means this series of action packed stories are for you.
A big thanks to Scott Moon and Craig Martelle for providing these stellar stories (pun intended)
Sincerely,
Alan McDonald
PS: thanks to my daughter for helping me read these as my vision has all but left me.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2019This was a great read, Don't be mislead by my title. But some of the parts were just too predictable and others left me wondering why certain passages were even there. Women going to help, and then being saved by the one they went to help, predicted that... the pig, dog thing? Why put it in if you are never going to have it do anything but add to the word count?
Would I recommend this story to a friend, yep, sure would! Is it the best book I've read this year, nope... but despite the issues mentioned, it held my interest to the end and isn't that what a book is supposed to do?
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2018This is the second episode (story) of the series and I absolutely loved it. Think western sci-fi. Sounds weird right? But wow does it works in these books. Sheriff Fry's character continues to develop wonderfully and we get to meet a few new ones as well. The deputy, Mast, is personally one of my favorites. I can't wait for the next one - 18 days from now. yay!!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2018That awesome team of Scott Moon and Craig Martelle continue the story of Sheriff Thaddeus Fry and the Mining Colony of Darklanding. As you remember, in the first episode Fry was settling in, now he has to deal with the conglomerate of miners, both alien and human and all of the issues that brings to the surface. Great Science Fiction written with an American Old West flavor and the irreverent twists of plot reminiscent of Firefly, this story grabbed my attention from the first chapter. This episodic series is a must read, that you will definitely want to add to your collection.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 20181st book I gave it a 4.0 as it was really short didn't give you a lot but had some definite potential.
2nd Book has started the Series in a great direction, supporting caste are starting to develop and I still have great hopes. My main concern at this point is the slow pace which I believe is a result of the length of the first two books. 65 pages for #1 ($.99) & 85 pages for #2 ($2.99). Although I am known to be a glutton for punishment, I am only giving this series one more shot. I still think there is potential but not at this pace and this price.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2018Great story that furthers the development of both the world and the characters. If you love space operas and old western, you should really enjoy this series. But I must say, it reminds me more of Gun Smoke than Bonanza. LOL 😆
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2018Entertaining read. It was good that it was short. I liked it enough to buy the next installment in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy read, fast pace and good characters.
Read all of the series so far. Not as in depth as some of the sci-fi I indulge in but an enjoyable read with great characters. Looking forward to the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buch klasse, Preis fies

4.0 out of 5 stars A great second episode.
I'm liking the characters and story more each book. My only complaint is that they are so short. The dog/pig thing is interesting. I will be reading the next one as soon as I finish this review. Cheers!
