About the authors
Thanks for checking out my Amazon landing page. Please click FOLLOW to keep up with my prolific launch schedule. I can’t do this without a whole bunch of amazing readers.
Scott Moon is the co-author of the bestselling Homeworld Lost, The Last Reaper, Terran Strike Marines, and Darklanding series. His solo works include Blue Sun Armada, Invasion Day, the Chronicles of Kin Roland, and more. As a lifelong fan of reading and a chronic daydreamer, he has retired from twenty-six years of public service to make his own schedule, indulge his imagination, and pursue a variety of hobbies. He’s an 80s kid who survived to (relative) maturity and it shows.
You can join his Facebook Group, The Scott Moon Base, or learn more than you ever wanted to about his writing process at Scott’s Science Fiction Substack.
Craig is a million-selling author of science fiction (post-apocalyptic, military sci-fi, and space opera), thrillers, and non-fiction.
Craig retired from the Marine Corps after a long career in the military intelligence community, having worked with most of the U.S. Government's three-letter agencies. After a short stint with physical security, Craig went to law school, graduated summa cum laude, and went into business consulting. From intelligence, to the inner workings of company board rooms, to on-the-ground leadership, Craig has seen it firsthand.
His books are an extension of his experience, putting the trials and tribulations of a fast-paced world into your hands. Whether in Science Fiction, Thrillers, Fantasy, or even his Non-Fiction, you'll find consistent themes of justice and doing right by those who are counting on their leaders. Leadership is a service, not a crown to lord over others.
No matter where Craig went, he always had a book with him. Thanks to 21st Century technology, He now has thousands of books at his fingertips and with him wherever he goes. How many books would he have read on deployments had he not had to carry a physical book?
No one is encumbered like that now. Craig loves the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. He has been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, Craig aspires to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared him to.
Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife get to watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run, just until temperatures reach fifty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It’s all part of the give and take of life. If they didn’t have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2018This series has turned into a fun time for me.
With a mix of action, politics, alien mysteries and even humor, I have found it delightful.
It’s a cross between a sci-fi and a western with a sheriff and his alien deputy trying to make sense of and keep control of a backwater shanty town built around a mining corporation that ships a valuable and rare mineral through interstellar space.
This particular episode in this series of novellas added many colorful characters, some good and some villainous.
It all makes for a good time, a very good read.
As a side note, my favorite character is a pig-dog thing that Sheriff Thad calls Maximus and likes to lick itself and can fart on demand it seems.
It’s also more intelligent than anyone gives it credit for. I say “it” because I still don’t know 100% if it’s a female or male, but that really doesn’t matter. I’m leaning on it being a male since it’s name is Maximus, but what does Thad know? He still hasn’t figure out exactly what Maximus is.
I do hope nothing bad ever happens to Maximus and if the author is reading this then the same goes for Mast, the deputy. His vision quest leaves the reader with a lot of questions. That’s a good thing.
The first four novellas have laid a firm foundation on which the reader can visualize Darklanding, where this entire debacle takes place and I say that in a good way.
If you liked Firefly then you’ll certainly like this Darklanding series of novellas.
I for one can’t wait for the next installment.
Five stars all the way!
Sincerely,
Alan McDonald
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2018This series is far and away the best set of novellas (or episodes as the authors call them) I have ever read. The story is fun and well written. The world building is amazing and will make you feel as if you were right there in Darklanding with the Sheriff. What a surprise for the Sheriff when the SI showed up, not sure I'd have liked it if I was him but did allow us to get to know him better. I love the fact that these episodes come out every 3 weeks! So let me say... Thank you, Scott Moon and Craig, Martelle. This series is just brilliant and enjoyable.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2018I'm thoroughly enjoying the series! Third book is little harder to follow, seems to shift perspective more often than I like. Characters are original and interesting.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2021Interesting characters with good interactions between each other. The story was fast paced and I didn't want to put it down and look forward to reading the next book with more stories about these characters
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2019To review this book we have to jump back to the last book to find a huge mistake no author should ever miss. In the last book White Skull had his hand shot off when he was captured by Thaddeus. Skip ahead to this book and he has both hands and it is pointed out repeatedly throughout the book. Just how do you make such a mistake? You're the author, you wrote the last book, which was a complete mess btw.
This installment flowed better, still had glaring editing issues along with the problems already mentioned. It moved the story along but was still shallow and disjointed. Things pointed to in earlier books are still not resolved or even mentioned. Not as bad as the last book and at least Thaddeus and Maximus are around for more adventures even if the author can't keep the continuity correct.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2018What Sherriff Thaddeus Frey wouldn’t give for a quiet retirement assignment, on a back-world mining planet. Not gonna happen. And when he needs him most, his deputy is off on some religious Spirit Quest, and the Marine Detachment in the Spaceport for whatever reason are too busy to take his latest prisoner off his hands. Everyone in town wants something, while Thaddeus wants some peace and quiet! A Blast from his past is just the thing to ruin the sheriff's mood! SagCon Special investigators arrive in town. Who are they investigating, the sheriff, the Company Man, one of the Miners? Gotta love the plot twists in this episode! Scott and Craig are rocking the writing!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2021Omg I love these books. The Author's are so great.I can't wait to read more from them. You won't want to put them down.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2020A few questions are answered, but new questions arise. What is Maximus? Other than hilarious, he appears to be an alien being. SagCon makes a stupid decision. Old love is rekindled. And a greater mystery is discovered, possibly at a great cost.
