Devil May Care (The Reckless Damned Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,424 ratings

One life-altering kiss sets our whole world on fire.

Harlow

I’ll tell you what isn’t on my agenda for this century: finding my fated mate only to have him reject me.

In fact, having a mate and tying myself down for eternity isn’t even a blip on my radar. But the moment I meet Bailey, there’s no denying he’s meant to be mine. Everything about the gentle Welsh giant calls to me, consuming my thoughts.

The problem? He doesn’t feel the same way. One life-altering kiss has him running in the other direction, leaving me to watch over him from the shadows.

When the opportunity arises to build a friendship, I grab it with both hands. Surely being his friend is better than nothing, right?

It will have to be, especially with a clan of mages sniffing around and looking for trouble. Not unusual since I am an estranged son of Lucifer. But now that I have my mate to consider, things are a lot more serious. How can I truly protect Bailey when he doesn’t even know I’m a demon?

Bailey

I learned a long time ago that relationships aren’t for me. Nobody wants to commit to a bigger guy, especially one who craves a different role in the bedroom.

When Harlow sashays into my life, I can’t help but wish things could be different. Sure, he seems interested, but history has proven that eventually, everyone leaves me.

There’s no way a vibrant firecracker like Harlow wants to be anything more than friends.

But the closer we get, the harder it is to keep him at arm’s length. He tells me he wants a relationship, but how can I believe him when I know he’s hiding something from me?

Devil May Care is an exciting, high-heat, friends-to-lovers paranormal romance with a guaranteed HEA. It is the second book in The Reckless Damned series, and although it can be read as a standalone, more enjoyment would be gained from reading the series in order. Each book focuses on a different couple and will have an HEA.

Harlow. Sweet, fierce Harlow. You have taken my heart. The devotion and care this man took with Bailey and his MANY insecurities was just incredible. His style 🤭, his personality 🔥, his heart 🥰. I knew I loved him in book one, but he firmly implanted himself here. ♥️

And dear Bailey. I know his insecurities intimately. I hurt for him. This gentle bear was everything that was perfect for Harlow and I wanted him to find his way out of all his self doubt so much sooner. The push and pull, the mixed signals, oh Bailey let yourself be loved already!!

Their dynamic was fire. Their chemistry when finally unleashed?! Explosive. I loved the ready acceptance of the roles they preferred and Harlow’s need for extra space?! 🥵🔥 iykyk.

My heart was in my throat at that plot twist, y’all! And I actually teared up. I don’t usually have that reaction to books, but I stayed up waaaaay past my bedtime because I had to know. Why you do that to us, Lark Taylor?! Damn. But getting to see Harlow’s badassedness in action?! 🙌🏻🤘🏻 And the connection between these brothers?! 🥹 It almost surpassed the emotional connection between our boys. Almost.

This book was more character driven than plot, but the story building is great and was left unresolved … so you know it’s gonna get big and it’s gonna get exciting. I was so happy to have more of Cal and Oscar. 🥰 Mori and Dagon are still big, protective and larger than life. I’m very ready for their stories. The dynamic between all the brothers is seriously one of my favorite things about this series. 💕

The smaller twinky guy is a powerful dominating demon that stalks, protects, and obsesses over the taller buff guy. A cool role reversal I loved. It has a bit more angst and heartbreak than the first book too. Overall a fun read.

Talk about taking the strongest character and bringing him down to his knees for his mate. Harlow laid everything on the line for Bailey and my heart broke for him. Watching the normally completely unaffected Harlow break, and give up, and then get back up and try again, only to break all over again was such a journey for me. I wasn't a fan of Harlow's character until the author fleshed his emotional capacity and capability so well in this, and now Harlow is one of my favorites. Everytime I get a little frustrated with his character, I remember back to the journey he went through in this book and fall in love with him all over again.

There were so many times when I wanted to just take Bailey and shake some sense into him, but that's how I know the author did a good job in fleshing out the characters, otherwise I wouldn't have cared that much. I love how the author was able to take Bailey's character and make his turmoils and self-deprecation make sense. It was harsh to watch as these two characters were completely in love with each other, but Bailey was so far in his head, he couldn't trust it and he broke both of their hearts. But then the author gave them a reckoning that healed them all the more beautifully because of how broken they were in the beginning.

Harlow is such a spitfire and so powerful and yet one word from Bailey and he's on his knees. Their journey was rough, but they navigated it so beautifully, right up until outside forces blew it all apart and ripped my heart out again. The ups and downs, and back and forths made me feel so many different emotions, but the HEA at the end was so perfectly earned. I love how Bailey finally got everything he ever deserved, and learned to have the confidence in him deserving it. And I love how Harlow was so resilient. His patience may have been gut-wrenchingly painful, but he got his Bailey in the end.

Oh my god. Oh my god. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! This book. It was so good. I remember when I read Devil’s Mark, and I wrote a note saying 10 bucks that Harlow and Bailey are mates. And what do you know???? I’m a literal genius. I’ve been excited to read their story since then. I knew it would be fabulous. Harlow had my heart in the last book, so I was so excited to read about this spitfire.

I was honestly surprised with the route the author took this story in though. Bailey has so many insecurities that I wouldn’t have even guessed. It was nice to see a big, strong character like him have weaknesses, but sometimes I was like Bailey if you don’t shut the hell up. But anyway. You’ll see what I mean.

There was a lot of British slang in this. It’s been a minute since I read the first book, so I can’t remember if there was as much slang in that one as there is in this one. It was so fun to read, but I did have to google a lot and figure out what the heck some of these words meant. It was so cool though. I’ve read books before that had slang I didn’t understand and they made me mad, but this was totally different. I can’t really explain it other than it just didn’t bother me. The words were funny.

Y’all the sex. THE SEX!!!!! It was sooooooo good. The dynamic these two had is one of my favorite things to read in books. You’ll see what I mean. It’s very sexy. Scrumptious. Delicious. Yum.

GUYS!!!!!!!! The plot twist??????? Oh my god. I wish y’all could text me when you read it. I want to talk about it. I usually read my books when I am laying in bed, and this plot twist had me sitting up with my spine ramrod straight. I don’t think I was breathing either. How crazy this author has to be to come up with something like that. Woooowwowowowowowowo. Bowing down to her.

We got to meet some new characters in this book that I am super excited about. I cannot wait to see what this author does with them. Mori’s story is next, and I cannot wait to see that darling demon baby get the love he deserves. Oh and we got to see more of the Dimitri and Dagon dynamic!!!! I love those guys. That’ll be a good story when we get it.

I know this review is all over the place and I am rambling, but I hope you got the gist of it that this book is so freaking good. I have so many things to say about and I could type for hours, but I am sure there’s got to be a character limit or something so we are stopping here. Just please for the love of Satan read it. Peace love and Lucifer’s sons!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, snarky and serious and with lots of loving. Very enjoyable.

    5 stars.

Another delicious story. And it all begins to make sense - I read the first two books of the Damned Connections series (Ferry/Leo and Sebastian/Matty) before discovering that I should be reading this series first. Especially as Ferry is introduced in this book.

Taylor has worked her magic to give us Harlow and Bailey, Bailey being Oscar’s best friend (although Harlow would argue that HE is Oscar’s ‘bestie’. She has given us more of the four brothers and they way they love and support each other, not that they would admit to loving one another for goodness sake, but love each other they do. It especially shows when they are not opposed to breaking a brother’s neck, or cutting his throat and killing him when one of them does something to annoy the other, or to keep him incapacitated for a while. All normal behaviour for a demon, and because they ARE demons, they can’t be killed as easily as that, it just takes them a little while to come to life again. Usually pretty angry. But that’s demon brothers for you.

Bailey, because of history, has never thought of himself as anyone worth loving. When Harlow sees Bailey for the first time and realises that this is his mate, here begins the story of how Harlow has to fight and fight to convince Bailey that he is definitely worthy of love. But again, because of history, Bailey becomes his worst enemy and keeps pushing Harlow away.

I love how the brothers are all so different, Harlow being like a firework, quicksilver, but loyal and generous. I love the snark and banter between the brothers and the way that Oscar can, with a loud whistle, stop the brothers’ bickering in a heartbeat. I love Bailey’s and Harlow’s story and the length Harlow will go to to ensure that Bailey is his first priority. I love seeing Bailey’s journey and how he gradually sees himself and that indeed, he is someone who is worthy and is truly loved by Harlow.

The next book belongs to Mori, because Taylor is teasing us with Dagon’s story and the way she has been giving us snippets involving Dagon and a certain archangel, Dimitry. Of course we’re going to have to wait for their book 😈.

Omg I loved this book even more than the first. Lark has the ability to thrown in SO much angst and pining and make you beg for more! The dramatics surrounding Harlow and Bailey were just perfect. SUCH a good book and even better for knowing that there's an HEA after all the angst.

Can't wait to read the next one!

Well, well, well… just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…
Lark swoops in and proves us wrong.
Harlow is a force of nature. The “pocket-sized firecracker” (dead-on description by the way) just swept me off my feet .
I loved him in the first book and this book has just cemented my adoration for him.
Bailey, sweet sweet Bailey… I wanted to strangle you and hug you at the same time.
This book is amazingly written, pushes all the right buttons. You will laugh, you will cry, you will gasp and at one point you might feel like you just had a heart attack.
If you love a paranormal story with a dash of sass and a whole lot of feelings, do yourself a favor and read this gem 💗

It was still good but I didn’t feel as mis as the first book. I understand Bailey's insecurities but I was so sad to see how Harlow was different around him and kind of losing his shining personality.
However, the slow burn and slow building of their relationship were really cute to see, it was unexpected and refreshing - so I couldn’t not like them.

And then, when THAT happened, I was just so shocked, how could it be possible, it broke me 😱
Let’s say that it was surprising as hell but good thing that everything when well afterwards.

Also, love to see Dimitri coming to say hi 😅
His and Dagon's book is gonna be epic, I feel lot of sexual tension up here !!
