Three reapers. Two worlds. One prophecy.

Seventeen-year-old Ember Lonergan has made an art of isolating herself. She prefers the dead. She spends her days skipping school in old cemeteries and her nights hiding from her alcoholic father at the funeral home where she works. When her own father dies, Ember learns her whole life is a lie.

Mace is a monster, a soulless assassin tasked with a single purpose: follow Ember. He only has two rules. Do not interact with her. Do not to kill her. Simply watch and report. But Mace has never been good at following orders, and Ember is a temptation he simply can’t resist.

Whisked away to a small Florida town, Ember must learn to embrace a family she’s never known, a supernatural world she never knew existed, and a power so vast it just might kill her. All that stands between Ember and destruction is that beautiful dangerous boy from the cemetery.

Can she learn to trust him before it's too late?

I am hooked!!! Love this series! So awesome. Some of the words or references are from the 80’s or 90’s and I get them. Lol. It’s great!

I was really drawn into this book by the interesting premise and breathtaking cover. Both are unmistakably justified.

The plot of this book is outstanding. There are so many different elements. A lot of thought went into making this book what it is. There are surprises, twists, and adventure. Everything syncs up so well. It definitely took the author a lot of planning to plot everything out so flawlessly. I think that the premise for this story is very unique and stands on its own really well. This story and this world stand out in a world of cookie-cutter paranormal and fantasy.

One of the things that I enjoyed most about this book was the alternating perspectives. I love stories that are told in this way. Each chapter was told from a different character's perspective, which adds so much depth to the story.

I have to give mad props to the author for some of the diverse characters in the book. Two of the prominent characters in the book are gay, and their relationship unfolds throughout the book. They made my heart squee with glee.

The characters really make this story stand out. These characters are so full of life, and the reader can relate to them all so easily. I enjoyed the way that all of the characters interacted with each other. The reader really gets a sense of who these characters are and how each one melds into the story.

The pace in the book is steady. Nothing seems rushed along, and nothing seems to drag. Just perfect.

I would most certainly give this book a try! I recommend it to all, especially if you have a predilection for paranormal or urban fantasy. This story will stick with you long after you have read the last page.

I received a copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

Love this series so much! Now I have my 12 year old daughter hooked as well.

The characters are beautifully written, complex, and full of emotions the reader can sympathize with. The story hooks you right away.

If you are a fan of magic, shifters, complicated family relationships... and so much more!

I also love the strong women and LGBTQ characters.
