Readers get to witness the romantic journey of Briar and Aldo. She and her two sisters live isolated lives in the forest. They are survivalists. He inherits the lead position of the Russo family, when his Uncle Vincent Russo, retired. When the Meralo-Bianchi families resurrect an old feud with the Russo family, Briar’s father arranges a marriage between Briar and Aldo to keep his daughters safe. However, Briar harbors a dark secret. Can she find happiness? Will Briar and her sisters be safe? What happens when Aldo discovers her secret? You must read this book to discover what happens.

    Ms. Handel, once again, pens a riveting romantic suspense. She utilizes a two-prong plot. One prong being the romantic journey of Aldo and Briar and the other the reasons behind the feud. I enjoyed how she interspersed into her plot a bit of fantasy with Posie’s psychic abilities. Ms. Handel’s use of dialog and multiple point of view help readers understand the intricacies within the two feuding families. Her descriptive language painted vivid scenes. One scene that stands out is when Dimi Meralo uses witchcraft to wound Aldo. Nicely done, Ms. Handel.

    Dark Forest is the fourth book in the Dark Royals series. It can be a stand alone book, but it is much richer when the series is read in order. Aldo has more than one goal in mind when he rushes Briar and her sisters out of their solitary forest home. Will he convince her to submit not only to his will, but her heart and future to him, or will the secrets from her past place them at odds?

    I really enjoyed this book and loved Briar and Aldo together. They definitely had a steamy connection, but I also loved how much they ended up giving in order to create something beautiful and lasting. Briar was kind and compassionate, and always trying her best to protect her sisters, even if that means giving up the life that they know and keeping dark secrets. Aldo is not one who bows to others. He is all dominant alpha male, full of command and a drive to protect those under him. I loved that he thought love made him weak, but his thought process slowly shifted as the book progressed. I loved their connection. You could feel it from the very first chapter, and I was completely enthralled to see what would happen next with both the story and with their relationship. I have really enjoyed this series so far, and loved this addition!

    Aldo was the head of the mafia that he inherited from his uncle. Briar was the oldest of three sisters who lived in the forest. Their mother was a witch and each sister had powers but didn’t really acknowledge them. The Rosa girls consist of four sisters with the third sister given up for adoption. Briar and her sister were responsible for their youngest sister who was twelve and a spitfire who was a carbon copy of their mom. Aldo agreed to an arranged marriage with Briar to protect them from their father’s wife. After they were married, Demi another witch hit Aldo with a lightning shot and because of Briar true love for him, it dispelled the curse the witch had use against him. Posie had a premonition about Aldo but she also told Briar how to save him. I would love to see the story of Posie life, the true little twelve year old witch. Dark Forest is a great book to read, it is hard to put down when you start reading.

    “Dark Forest” is the first book in the ‘Rosa Royals’, which is somewhere between a spin-off and a continuation of the ‘Russo Royals’. If you’re familiar with particularly the last book in that series, you’re definitely going to recognize the lead characters in this one. However, author Shanna Handel has done a very good job writing this book in such a way that you’ll be able to understand everything, even if you’re totally unfamiliar with everybody in it.

    Blair and her two younger sisters have been hiding out and living in the woods for more than a decade, without any parents for most of that time. For the most part, they live a very self-sufficient lifestyle. Aldo is the new head of the Russo mafia family. A simmering crime family crisis is getting ready to boil over, and he is determined to protect Blair and her sisters from being caught in the crossfire. Blair is extremely reluctant for the marriage Aldo demands happen between them. He’s trying to guide and protect the mafia family that’s his responsibility, provide protection for the three girls from the woods who have nobody else looking out for them, and convince beautiful Blair to trust him completely. Alpha-man Aldo had no hesitation at all to use domestic discipline as a way to persuade her that it’s in her best interest to cooperate with him.

    I thought this story was nicely written, and had a good balance of danger, intrigue, passion, humor and unexpected paranormal elements. Everything is described so clearly that I could picture it as if it was on a movie screen. The ending to this fast-paced story was good, but it also left me with multiple unanswered questions. I’m looking forward to enjoying the next book in this series, featuring one of Blair’s sisters and one of Aldo’s brothers!
