Dark Spirits: Paranormal Romance Novel (Beyond the Eyes Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 89 ratings

Supernatural fans love Dark Spirits!

Loving people comes with the risk of losing them.

I’m Paige. Eighteen. And my world is different now.

I’ve awakened to a new life, one hidden from humanity where darkness can grow a pulse and manipulate this reality.

It needs my help, but if I do, mass-genocide will happen. I much rather fight these dark forces than assist them.

I’m emotionally and physically stronger than ever.

I can totally smoke these dark spirits, but Nathan’s overprotectiveness is preventing me from taking action. And I’m seriously getting annoyed by it, and he’s hiding things from me.

I know it.

I feel it.

It’s becoming a huge problem in our relationship. I mean, I share my cryptic premonitions with him and my newfound magickal abilities, but yet he won’t open up to me.

Why?

So, when my ex-boyfriend Brayden shows up and offers the equal partnership I desperately crave from Nathan, I begin questioning myself and my feelings.

My heart is shattering.

Things are quickly getting complicated, and darkness is closing in on me. I need to make some hard decisions and hope they’ll be the right ones.

This is a dark paranormal romance, the second in the Beyond the Eyes trilogy.

17+ for sex scenes.

Dark Spirits takes off from where the first book in the series, Beyond the Eyes, leaves off. Firstly, I want to point out that this novel can stand alone. You do not need to read book #1 of the series to enjoy book #2. However, there are some great insights if you do - and I do recommend reading both books. Secondly, I thought Rebekkah Ford did a wonderful job of summarizing the first book within the second book in such a way that, if you had read the first book, that it didn't seem redundant. Also, if you didn't read the first book, the summaries are very thorough and fill you in on all the back story quite nicely.

The characters are multi-faceted and well thought out. Each character had his or her own unique style about them. I loved the character of Paige. Her growth from book #1 to book #2 reminds me of Luke Skywalker's growth in the Star Wars (original) trilogy. You see Paige as a young high schooler, living pretty much alone, and very teenager-like in the first book. She matures in that book and starts off book #2 with a sense of self that really allowed her character to come across as so real in the book. I'm looking forward to book #3 to see more from this strong character.

The love interest, Nathan, was wonderful. I loved that the author didn't make these young lovers so blissfully ignorant and goo-goo eyed throughout the books. They work on their relationship and build their love on a strong foundation, but there are issues along the way. Namely - a love triangle with Brayden. Love, especially young love, doesn't just magically happen and the whole world is peaches and cream. I absolutely love that the couple had issues.

The human side characters were very enjoyable. In fact, it would be nice if Tree and Carrie had their own book spin-off! :-)

I enjoyed the evil dark spirits immensely. I won't write a spoiler, but one of their abilities sent a chill down my spine. That's good writing! :-) The dark spirits also reminded me of the demons from the TV show Supernatural (which is one of my favorite shows). Very compelling evilness! Loved it.

This is a great YA novel and I'm going to recommend it to my daughter. I do think many adults who enjoy paranormal will like this book as well. I did.

Will Paige and Nathan never have a moment of peace! It is one incident after another. Paige has to deal with her new status and try to keep herself alive and still protect Carrie and Tree. She has Brayden trying to break her and Nathan up everywhere she turns. Problems, problems and more problems.

This is my honest review. Very interesting read.

Dark Spirits is a very entertaining book that pulled me in from the beginning. Ford's characters are well-developed with engaging and very human flaws. (Perfect people are boring.) The story flows smoothly and is action-packed, with bits of steamy romance and lots of intrigue, making this an excellent weekend read.

This second installment in the Beyond the Eyes series picks up several months after Paige has become immortal. In that brief time, she's begun to sharpen some of her spiritual powers and is becoming accustomed to the perks of immortality and exploring her relationship with Nathan. As new powers emerge, so do new threats, and she begins to question the loyalty of her friends, and even Nathan. Does he love her? She's quite confident that he does, but also worried that his love is a bit too possessive and protective and she doesn't want to be coddled and protected when there's so much at stake.

We also see things from Nathan's perspective. He has his reasons for keeping Paige cloistered and isolated, but can he protect her and still protect humanity? And if he can't do both, which will he choose?

All in all, Dark Spirits is a fun, spooky ride and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

I like Rebekkah Ford's work. I will be buying her books again. I've the whole series and she does a great job. I have to say compared to the work of some of those 99 cent books that only have 26 pages or a few more, this is worth the money and it's a good read. It's an interesting idea for a book. I think it needed a little editing but it wasn't bad. I was able to read through the book and enjoy it.

Paige and Nathan are together, her mother has died and it seems every dark spirit is out to kill her. But Carrie and Tree stand with her as close friends. Brayden is becoming a total jerk as he thinks she belongs to him and not Nathan. The old one wants her alive, to help him find the incantations, but another dark spirit, someone who used to be infatuated with him, wants her gone.

The story has merit and the characters are slowly developing. Paige is over dramatic, but is only eighteen. Although this is not my typical read, it has kept me interested enough to finish it. Paige may be the only one who can save mankind, so I will have to finish it.

    Read on my w.

The story opens with Paige scattering her mother’s ashes over the Pacific Ocean.
She has been trained over the summer to use her powers against the dark forces.
Paige is an innocent bystander, and demons are warring to get her, demons versus the old one. Paige is thought to know the whereabouts of Solomon’s ring. ¬¬¬ Carrie and Tree, Paige’s friends, get involved, and Nathan and Paige worry for their safety. Not everyone is who they seem, and Paige will have to fight for her very life. I love how Rebekkah Ford shows how Paige still has feelings for her old boyfriend, and wonders who she should trust. The only people she can trust are her childhood friends, Carrie and Tree. Dark Spirits, shows us more of the spirit world, and we see Paige discover just who and what she has become. The story is being told wonderfully, and more of is being unfolded. Definitely worth a read!
