About the author

Growing up in a small town, in the middle of England, with not a lot really happening, was the perfect place for an imagination to flourish. Indeed, having gone to the same secondary school as noted filmmakers Ken Loach and Gareth Edwards, it almost seemed inevitable that Ben Bruce would end up telling stories sooner, rather than later.
Ben spent the last fifteen years working behind the scenes in TV as he sought out a career as a screenwriter. When one script was rejected, he was unable to let it go, so The Regulators went from the screen to the page. Now a successful trilogy with future entries planned in 2025, Ben also has two new series launching soon, one in summer 2024.
A member of the Crime Writers' Association, Ben splits his time between the day job, writing, hosting the Criminally Inspired podcast for the UKCBC, coaching two flag football teams (and playing in one) and bringing up a young family. He does not understand the concept of downtime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captures the 60’s brilliantly
Another great book by this author. I’ve read all four of his books and I think this is the best so far. Excellent characterisation. I was a teenager in the sixties and I thought this got the feel of the times perfectly. The relationship between Cribbs and Walsh was very good. I had no idea who committed the dastardly deed until the police actually solved it. A great read and I can’t wait for their next case. More Cribbs and Walsh please. Looking forward to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling Read
A very enjoyable story, well told. Was interesting to go back in time to the sixties, and thinking how differently the police had to work. The relationship between the two officers worked really well, and showed the way people thought at the time. The writing made the places feel alive and very atmospheric, certainly looking forward to reading more. Highly recommend the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific read
This is a terrific read, set in the '60s, a time I remember well. Gerald Trainer is dead, murdered on the docks where he worked. DI Ray Cribbs and his innocent, naive sidekick Joseph Walsh, set out to find the murderer. This is a cracking puzzle of a story, setting little possibilities before us. It's rife with the often accepted mores of the day, sexism, racism etc. So well written and the author's best book to date, in my opinion. I really look forward to the next Cribbs and Walsh book.
