Dead Speak (Cold Case Psychic Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,487 ratings

Demoted to the cold case squad after shooting a suspect in the line of duty, Detective Ronan O’Mara knows that his career with the Boston Police Department is hanging by a thread. His first assignment is the case of Michael Frye, a five-year-old boy who has been missing for seven years. With no new leads or witnesses to interview, Ronan has to start from scratch to solve this mystery. When he sees a handsome local psychic on television, Ronan figures he’s got nothing to lose in enlisting the man’s help to find Michael.

Psychic Tennyson Grimm is riding high after helping South Shore cops find a missing child. He’s even being courted by the Reality Show Network about a program showcasing his abilities. He has no idea that his midday appointment with a customer, who instead turns out to be a police detective, is going to change the course of his life and his career.

With the blessing of the BPD, which badly needs an image make-over, Ronan is allowed to bring Tennyson in to assist with the Frye case. Being thrown together in front of cameras is never easy, but add in an emotional missing person’s investigation, a tight-lipped spirit, and a cop who’s a skeptic, and it definitely puts a strain on both men and their working relationship.

When the child’s body is found, the work to identify his killer begins. As Ronan and Tennyson get closer to solving the case, the initial attraction they feel for one another explodes into a passion neither man can contain.

Will working together to bring Michael’s killer to justice seal their fledgling bond, or will unexpected revelations in the case tear them apart forever?

Dead Speak is Book One of the Cold Case Psychic Series. Book Two, Dead Reckoning, Book Three, Dead Silent, and Book Four, Dead Weight will be available in the coming months.

Please be aware this book deals with the topic of child abuse, specifically, sexual abuse.

Dead Speak is 165 Microsoft Word pages long and 71,936 words.

Sick of the slogging rat-race of her 9-5 job, Pandora Pine put pen to paper (literally!) to make her ambition of becoming a romance novelist a reality. She cut her teeth in the dog-eat-dog world of fan fiction, still dreaming of the day when she would be a published author.

In her spare time, Pandora fancies herself an amateur nature photographer. She enjoys mucking around in swamps, hiking through the woods and crawling around on her hands and knees in her backyard seeking out the perfect shot. Pandora is a fan of roadside seafood shacks and always thinks Mexican food is a good idea at the time.

Some of Pandora’s favorite things are chocolate, writing longhand with purple pens, and handsome men falling in love with each other.

I waited to review this series of stories as I wanted to give my opinion based on their entirety and not each individual book. I feel this way about any series that involves more than four or five books.
After I finished the second book, I discovered the authors other books and put them into an order that they could be read. I focused on two of the other series related to Cold Case Psychic, Haunted Souls, and Cold Case Psychic Spin-off Novels.

By reading in order of publication, I was able to connect all the books into one continuous story. Had I not done this, I would have been lost when an incident or character from Haunted Souls, or the Spin-Offs was mentioned in the Cold Case Psychic books.

There are a total of 62 books, 29 Cold Case Psychic, 22 Haunted Souls and 11 Spin-Offs.
This made for a marathon of reading on my part, that I thoroughly enjoyed. The author develops each of her characters over a course of seven years, giving them a great sense of humor, which kept me laughing throughout each book, and most importantly, a camaraderie and a large family unit of gay husbands, their children and friends.

With psychics and witches, working with cold case police in Salem, Massachusetts, the stories did not go over the edge with the main characters abilities. I found myself believing in psychics and the power of the mind and followed the dynamics of each couples relationship, wishing I could be a part of their lives. There were plenty of moments where I laughed so hard it hurt, and the other moments that brought me to tears.

Pandora Pine has a unique way of telling it like it is, including the graphic sexual encounters. My only criticism is that there are some interesting characters who appear in the stories who have close connections to the main characters that are forgotten or barely mentioned again in the other books. Some of the characters are showcase in the spinoff books, but are almost forgotten in the other books. I would have liked to have seen them appear occasionally throughout the series. The same goes for the dogs and cats that appear early on and suddenly not heard from again.

This is just my opinion and it’s not meant to deter anyone from picking up a copy of “Dead Speak”, the first book in the Cold Case Psychic series. The books are well written and I highly recommend starting the journey with Ronan O’Mara and Tennyson Grimm, and of course the excellent storytelling of Pandora pine.

This was good start for a new series. We meet Ronan, a cop who needs to redeem himself, and Tennyson, a psychic who’s gain fame for finding a missing child. Their relationship starts off rocky but soon becomes steamy and intense. While navigating their new relationship, Ronan and Tennyson work together to solve the unsolved disappearance and murder of a five year old boy. This story has angst, suspense, and psychic powers. The law enforcement procedures and practices aren’t very accurate, but that is easy to ignore once I let myself enjoy the story. I think the best part of this book is the character development of Ronan and Tennyson and watching their relationship bloom.

Narration: I alternated between reading this book and listening to the wonderful Michael Pauley narrate the story. Michael Pauley did a fantastic job narrating, and really brought the characters to life.

Overall Rating: 3.85 Stars. This was close to a 4 Star read for me, but the pacing of the story felt a little off for me. However, I did enjoy the characters and overall had fun reading the book.

to be honest i wasnt expecting much considering this is Book 1 of 26. i thought it was going to be a throwaway kinda book with no plot or character development. but i was pleasantly surprised. i liked the characters and the story line was very good (though i sort of figured out who the villain/murderer was pretty early on). looking forward to Book 2.

A griping and emotional story filled with action, intrigue and passion. I loved the banter and connection between Tennyson and Ronan. The chemistry between these two men was sizzling and felt real. The book is really well written and the characters are so well drawn that you feel like you know them. The plot kept me page turning well into the night!

I really enjoy psychic style books when they are done well, and this one is great! i liked getting to know both Ten and Ro and i was cheering for them, wanting them to find a way to love. i loved seeing Carson and Truman

My heart hurt with a heartbreaking story-line for the bad guy and the possible impacts on Ronan. I am glad that i will get to see more of this couple in the next book. They will have an epic love story i know.

First, I want to say that I read part of another book with Ronan and Ten in it and if it weren't for the way Ronan acted in that book I would have quit reading this one. Ronan in this book is like a bull in a china shop. Why is he yelling so much? My gosh. I liked Ten a lot and was happy to read more about Carson and his family. I'm hoping that Ronan calms the heck down in the next book because I really like this cold case concept and want to read more.

Wow! This book came unexpected to me in how much I enjoyed it. It kinda makes sense now why there is 27 books in this series.Tennyson and Ronan banter fit so well in this story.I liked that it didn’t take over in there relationship development and it was just sprinkle here and there. Tennyson character was everything to me, I loved how you used his powers and still showed that he wasn’t mr. know it all, n still showed that plain old detective work was still needed. I can’t wait to see how his and Ronan relationship developed especially with what was discovered in the end book about Ronan. I can’t wait to start book 2 right away. PSA this more dark then I expected. That took me for a surprise and made enjoy it way more.

Starting 2023 by starting over my favorite book series. Every time I get stuck looking for something to read, I come back to this series. I love the way Pandora Pine writes. You really get to know the characters, their back stories, their friends and families, what they really feel, and good communication. By the time I'm done with one, I'm so thankful I have the next one.

Get the tissues ready because this is a cold case about a five year old boy who has been missing for seven years and it’s heartbreakingly sad at times. Between the cold case detective and the unlikely pairing with a psychic, they uncover secrets to discover the truth of what happened to Michael.

First book by this author and I am definitely not disappointed. Really likeable characters, twists in the plot and hot romance between the detective and the psychic. Thoroughly enjoyed and looking forward to reading the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good but lacks in tension and intensity
Reviewed in India on September 15, 2023
So this was different. The thing that stands out most is the pacing of the story. It never slogs. Almost completes itself leisurely. Which is refreshing and maybe a little uninteresting at the same time as a murder mystery should hold you in and create a tension. I found that lacking. But I don't think it was bad in a "not going to read this anymore" way. The romance was balanced, even though they get together really fast. For the mystery, enough clues were handed out that I decoded it way before the main characters did. Which again, removed the tension of the book. It read like an easy going book even with the very sinister crime of the plot. I will continue this series if only to see the relationship grow between the two leads.
