After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live.

In 2013 Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head and I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later.

3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series.

The Beekeeper was published and soon hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well.

I continued to self-publish the Smith series and Unworthy hit the shelves in 2018 with amazing results. I therefore made the decision to self-publish The Backpacker which is book 3 in the Detective Harriet Taylor series and was published in July 2018.

After The Backpacker I had an idea for a totally new start to a series – a collaboration between the Smith and Harriet thrillers and The Enigma was born. It brings together the brooding, enigmatic Jason Smith and the more level-headed Harriet Taylor. Dropzone followed shortly after and the third in the series, The Raven Girl finished things off.

Miranda is something totally different. What was to be a stand-alone psychological thriller, it is a real departure from anything else I’ve written before. The ending begged for a sequel and, Mistress was born. Medusa completes the Miranda trilogy.

There are now 25 DS Smith books available with many more planned for the future.

I wanted a break from the crime thriller genre so I came up with The Divide - a macabre horror tale of survival, but crime will always be my true love.

A new series featuring Irishman, DI Liam O'Reilly begins with Blood on the Island, and that was followed by ten more mysteries set on the island of Guernsey.

When I'm not writing I love sailing, guitars and jumping out of perfectly good planes. I'm lucky to have a huge lake on my doorstep as well as a world-class skydiving drop zone.

Many thanks to the author / Books n All Book Promotions for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Detective Jason Smith is not a huge team player ... he's a great cop and he clears all his cases. But he is uncontrollable at times and has anger issues. He has his own way of doing things .. with or without his supervisor's permission.

Jason is perplexed when a man is shot and killed in a park in broad daylight. So why are there no witnesses? And then another body shows up ...also killed with a gun ... and no witnesses.

It doesn't stop there. More bodies are found .... all shot and killed with one bullet. What connects all these victims?

While dealing with trying to catch a serial killer, he's also dealing with a new supervisor .. the nephew of the Chief. He is fighting to get his wife and daughter back after a bad decision on his part. And now he's suffering from debilitating migraines.

This is another well written addition to a terrific series. Although this is the 12th book, it is easily read as a stand alone. However, I recommend starting at the very beginning. Smith and his team are great characters and I've enjoyed seeing how they grow into their roles. I like the mix of his personal life with his professional side. The plot is well crafted and the ending is unpredictable.

As anyone who is a regular reader of my blog will know I am a massive Stewart Giles fan, and his Jason Smith books in particular. I have read all the Smith books and really enjoy the characters and team dynamic, although that has changed slightly after what happened in book 11.
This is book 12 in the series so I would highly suggest you read them in order, or at least a couple before starting this one, but it can be read as a standalone book if you want.
The book starts in usual dramatic circumstance, but this time Jason is very involved from the start as he is walking the dogs in the park when he hears screams. He runs over and finds a man has been shot in the head with lots of witnesses about, all of whom saw nothing.
As the team investigate this case the murderer kills more people, all of whom appear to be unrelated, making the case that much more serious and the team struggling to find any suspects.
As they work through all the evidence trying to get a lead Smith also has to concentrate on his personal life, which he managed to screw up momentously in the last book.
With the bodies starting to build up the team, with an interesting new member, slowly work everything out, but Smith has other ideas and is forced to yet again work on his own, leading to potentially disastrous circumstances for those around him.
Overall this is yet another amazing book by Stewart, which had me hooked and guessing all the way through again.

I love this series and I have to say that I think Detective Jason Smith is probably my favourite fictional detective at the moment – I love the wit that the author has given his character and it was great it this book, he has created a series that I would pick up without even reading the blurb!

This book involves the team having to crack a really tough case, and it was good!!! I like the curve balls that were thrown in to keep you guessing as to who the “Deadeye” might be – plenty of action, great interaction and another fabulous read!!

I liked that we got to meet the new DI and I liked seeing how the team dynamics worked out – I am definitely looking forward to reading more in the series!!

it is 5 stars from me for this one, I loved it and it is one I will be very highly recommending!!

Being pedantic the cartridge stays in the weapon, the bullet or round hits the target not the cartridge, that apart another brilliant Smith story. Keep them coming please.

I have been a fan of Stewart's work for a while now. He has written quite a few books now. I have read and reviewed a lot of his books but I still haven't managed to catch up with all of his work just yet. Although I have loved everything that he has written, I must admit that I do have something of a soft spot for Detective Sergeant Jason Smith for reasons which I will explain in a bit. 'Deadeye' is the latest book in the DS Jason Smith series and it's another corker. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Deadeye' but more about that in a bit.
What can I say about Detective Sergeant Jason Smith? Well apart from the fact that I have a soft spot for him and I have claimed him as a relative- well the name Smith does crop up in my family tree so in theory that makes us cousins right? Anyway enough of my delusions so back to our hero I do go. Smith is actually Australian but he has strong ties with the York area, as his beloved Grandmother lived there. Smith was sent to live with his Grandmother after his sister died in an accident in Australia. I get the impression that Smith's parents blamed him. Smith's Grandmother was definitely an important part of Smith's life and he was devastated when she died. Smith has remained in the York area since her death. Smith had been settled in his life as he had a wife and daughter although following Smith's indiscretion in a previous book, his wife moved out and took his daughter with her. Since then Smith has been beating himself up over what happened and he is determined to get them home where they belong. Smith is certainly a determined detective although he occasionally bends the rules. Smith just seems to be a trouble magnet and despite everything that Stewart puts him through (the meanie), Smith stands up, dusts himself off and carries on. However, the cases as described in 'Deadeye' test him as he has never been tested before. Will Smith (my hero and cousin) solve the case, save the day and succeed in bringing his family back home? Well for the answers to those questions and so much more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.
Oh my goodness gracious me, 'Deadeye' was another unputdownable, page turner of a book from Stewart. I was hooked on this book from the moment I read the synopsis, let alone from reading the story itself. To say that this book was addictive seems to be a massive understatement. I had to read the book in one long reading binge because I simply couldn't bear to put the book to one side for any length of time. The book wasn't exactly glued to my hands but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story and besides which I needed to know whether or not Smith (my hero) made it to the end of the book in one piece.
'Deadeye' is superbly written but then I find that to be true of all of Stewart's books. He manages to grab your attention from the synopsis and he draws you into the story. Once he has your attention then he will not let you have it back until the moment you finish the last word on the last page. 'Deadeye' was one of those books that gripped me throughout and had me on the edge of my seat throughout, which got a bit uncomfortable at times.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Deadeye' even if Smith was put through the wringer again. 'Deadeye' has left me wanting, no make that needing more books in the Detective Sergeant Smith series. Knowing Stewart as I do, I am sure that I won't have too long to wait. I wholeheartedly recommend this book, this series and all of Stewart's books to other readers. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

I am loving how Stewart Giles is keeping these books coming each one seems to be better than the previous one so I was expecting a fantastic read and I wasn't disappointed. Jason Smith a man who has had more bad luck than good. He has lost so many people and still he picks himself up and carries on catching the bad guys. Along with his team he has earned a reputation for solving every case and that reputation is well known up and down the country. He does have his own way of doing things and while his methods are effective they do not always comply with the rules. This brings humour to the stories making these books different in a very good way.

Smith made a massive mistake in the previous book and is now living with the consequences of his actions. He is not a happy man but he has had a wake up call and is now determined to repair the damage.

I have to say something about Superintendent Smythe. I don't know how he got to be a superintendent the man is an idiot and is inclined to annoy his subordinates but Smith just has no time for the man but to make the situation worse the pair have totally different priorities. Smith is all about cracking cases and Smythe is all about appearances and statistics. Sparks are bound to fly and they often do but Smythe is here to stay. So when Smith finds out that the new DI is Smythe's nephew he is not a happy man.

So on to the story. Smith is walking the dogs in the park when he hears screaming. A man has been shot. So another day off has been cancelled and it is back to work. However, this is no ordinary case. As the victims stack up the team are unable to find any link between them. Someone appears to be randomly killing people with a long range rifle. With no crime scene to reveal evidence and nothing to link the victims will this turn out to be the first case Smith is unable to crack?

Intrigue, suspense, revenge, betrayal, love, hate and war all come together in this fast paced, totally gripping page turner. Another 5* winner for me.

Great read once again, Jason Smith is a detective sergeant who won’t let a case rest until he’s absolutely sure he’s got the right person, a sniper is on the loose but why is he killing these people? A new DI joins the case & soon has the culprit in custody, but Smith doesn’t think it’s him, who’s right? Highly recommend this book & the series.
