Deadliest Bidder (Nick Teller Book 2) Kindle Edition
Nick Teller has spent his entire adult life hiding from other arcanists, living in fear of the ruthless Society of Arcanists and other rogues alike. He’s strived to build a quiet life for himself as a lecturer at King’s College London, softening the edges of his upbringing, but when the Prime of the Society calls in a debt, Nick is dragged back into that world he’s tried so hard to leave behind.
Prime Ascrid orders Nick to infiltrate an exclusive auction reserved for the most dangerous rogue arcanists in the world, where the prize is worth killing for and the bidding can be lethal. Nick will need to sharpen his edges and stay two steps ahead of the competition if he’s going to get his hands on the prize.
But with the Prime’s Járngrimr bodyguard watching his every move, a game-obsessed godling running the auction, and rogues circling like sharks, it’s going to take everything Nick has just to survive.
In a world of rogues, where every face hides an agenda and every smile a knife, Nick knows that the slightest misstep could get him killed, and that often the deadliest knife is the one you don’t see coming.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2020...sort of. Nicholas is a head-in-the-sky dreamer who believes he lives in a world where he can defeat people doing evil things and let them live afterwards without consequences. If he were to not use his powers, he could have lived the quiet life he craves. But, he tries to have it all, and that is where he fails while not recognizing that he's failing.
Brenik writes the character so well that you get frustrated with Nicholas' blatant stupidity. However, you can see Brenik has him on a journey that is going to slam reality right in his face...hard.
This story is action-packed compared to the more cerebral plotline of Rogue Arcanist. But, Brenik packs in a lot of new characters, cliques, and plots for future novels, that will leave you speculating as to where Nicholas' life is going to go. Let's hope Brenik fulfills his promise of the next novel to be in 2020, he's left a lot of angles he can pursue future novels with.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2019It isn’t often that a second book in a series is better than the first, particularly when the first merited 5 stars, but this one accomplishes just that. Well written, interesting characters, and a thought provoking plot. Highly recommended.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2020A good read...tends to get bogged down in moralities, though. Vivid imagery, surprising depth of arcania, and a fast moving series of action sequences.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2019Quite exciting read about a Strong hero-type with high morals. Fast paced plot, lots of action and satisfying ending. Hope the series continues.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2020I love paranormal stories. This one was great, I was swept away in this new world. I loved the first book in this series also, might be a good idea to read it first. I love how you learn what is happening at the same time as the characters.
I am looking forward to book 3!

5.0 out of 5 stars More, please
Best book I've read this year. The first book established an interesting world, and this one builds on that base wonderfully. I'm totally invested in these characters. More, please.
