Death Kiss Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 124 ratings

With one kiss I can see when, where and how you will die.

Some would call it a gift. But not me.

My death kiss is a curse that has branded me a witch, with no human rights, and has turned me into the most wanted girl on earth.

Why? Because in a world where a vicious movement of sadistic killers are murdering random people to stop overpopulation, my kiss holds the power for salvation.

And makes me a prime target for abduction.

Which is where I am now. Captured by three brothers, burning with grief after witnessing my parents’ murder, and tormented with fear of what is yet to come…

For something doesn’t add up.

I’m trapped inside a deadly game of kiss and tell, but I know there’s a darker agenda at play.

What it is? I just hope I can live to find out.

Death Kiss is an adult, dark fantasy, romance novel which draws you into a world of magic, deception, seductive twists, and desire.

Naomi E Lloyd is a writer who loves exploring both the dark and lighter sides of fantasy stories.

Where her debut series, Tandro, takes readers on a coming-of-age fantasy romance across another time and realm, her more recent series, Death Kiss, delves into a dark, supernatural world, full of deception, magic, and seductive twists.

But whether finding the light or delving into the dark with her fantasy stories, there is a common thread that weaves the dark-light themes of her storytelling together: connection—the journeys that shape rather than break us. For whilst her characters face tumultuous challenges, and sometimes traumatic experiences in her books, it is their resilience and determination that makes their journeys so transformative.

Formerly a law student at Warwick University, she started writing her debut series, Tandro, after the story concept kept popping up in her recurring dream. This was a multi-faceted story she couldn’t let go of and one that sent her on a research journey across the world, to bring the story to fruition and finally realise her real-life dream of holding a book she had written in her hands.

Three books later, it was via another vivid dream that her next series, Death Kiss, was born. A dark fantasy story she felt so compelled to bring to life she wrote down the blurb within moments of waking up.

As a believer in listening to your dreams, Naomi’s stories transport you into other worlds and times, give you characters you either root for or love to hate, and treat you to endings with unexpected twists and turns.

Although born in Yorkshire and a northern girl at heart, Naomi now lives by the historical beaches of Portsmouth, where she can often be found in a café, tapping away on her laptop or walking along the sunny promenade with her camera in hand.

Whoa. Amazing story... very much looking forward to getting the next book. I love that plot twist with the guardian at the end.

I also like how dark things are and how we now have a good idea of what started everything. Is it 100% true though? How reliable is Luther as a character? I can't wait to find out.

I have no idea how this ended up in my queue but it did. I'm glad. This is a very unique and inventive story with elaborate world building.

A few of the characters seem like caricatures, but the main characters are very well done.

Definitely recommend if you are looking for something new and different.

The story line itself is good. I expected it to be a bit dark but not this dark. There's rape, child molestation, murder, slavery, terrorism, abuse, etc all described in great detail. If I had known this ahead of time I wouldn't have read it. Overall, I liked the book. It had great promise and, despite the horrific scenes, I did finish it. Although I probably shouldn't have. It also got very confusing to read at points. I felt like my head was spinning trying to keep up with the storyline. The main character's crazy babble inside and outside of her head, while I can see the point of it, shifted too far away from the actual scene that was set. By the time it came back to what was actually happening in the storyline, I was left confused. And her sudden newfound powers, a multitude of them, that just suddenly arrived with no explanation in less than 24 hours... That should have been spread out more. Her new powers should have started blossoming from the beginning of the book making her stronger and stronger until she was a true badass at the end. Not thrown in there all at once making my head wheel and actually pulling me out of the story because it was too much happening at once. I kept getting really, really frustrated with her lack of fighting back. She keeps thinking about fighting back but then doesn't. Or she starts to fight back and then stops. She often ends up helping her captors or feeling for them in some way which causes her to halt her escape plan. Which doesn't make any damn sense. Yes, one of the brothers is nice to her but he still keeps her locked up. The other 2 are downright atrocious bastards who, no matter how much they need phycological help and show some signs of goodness, deserve to die a horrible, horrible death. Or she (finally!) escapes and runs back to the hell hole instead of away from it to save her captors *face palm*. The author keeps painting her as strong and brave one moment and weak and useless the next. I gave it 3 stars because it definitely had promise and it kept me interested enough to finish it. But I won't be reading the second book when it comes out.

Death kiss was one unusual book. It reminded me of the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi.

We have a scared heroine, who turned into a real badass by the end of the book. And what Tahereh has written in three parts, Naomi has done it in one.

    A brief summary:

Ava is a girl with a unique power - her kiss can show you your death. And for that, she is kidnapped and used to protect the high society. When his captor has an accident, she is gifted to his three grandsons - triplets with different qualities. Hunter is the merciless one (the evilest and most corrupted), Aiden is the broken one, and Alexander (Xander) is the kind one. However, after a while, she understands she is not the weak girl everyone thinks her to be.

What I liked about this book:

I liked the story and the writing; the book is certainly a page-turner. The characters are interesting and the heroine is fun to read. I do like the feminism in the book and the girl power. I also enjoyed reading about the triplets, and I find their arcs really interesting. I liked that the author had created three people with the same features - totally different.

    What I didn't like:

First thing, the book is a bit confusing. We jump from scene to scene, and to different time periods often, and this ruins the flow of the story. I think part of the book was too rushed, and we couldn't get the perspective of her captivity under the triplets. Apart from the time jumping, the end was a bit messy with too much information thrown in the reader's face, and it gets kind of overwhelming.

Also, as other people have pointed out, the trigger and content warnings need to be edited and added more of them. I do like dark reads, so I didn't mind them.

I also didn't like that this is supposed to be a romance story, but there is not a lot of it. I hope we see more romance in the next book.

    Overall:

I enjoyed the book, but I recommend to future readers to expect it to be dark and twisty, with lots of triggers.

Be aware that there is child molestation, torture, violence against a women that includes attempted rape and beatings, and slavery of the same woman. These are all described in graphic detail. I would not have attempted to read the book if I had been aware of the triggers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow what a fantastic read

Death Kiss… well. Where to start with this book. It’s an utterly unique and intense concept that I have never come across before.
A vicious movement of sadistic killers are murdering completely random people to stop overpopulation. There’s no way to determine who will be next or how they will meet their end. No one is safe.
But a kiss from one woman’s lips holds the power for salvation.
For three brothers, each with their own troubled pasts, dark secrets and desires, Silver is their only chance for surviving this mass culling of humankind.
I was hooked from the very start, with its dark and gripping opening that had my heart in my chest the whole time. And that feeling never really stopped throughout the book.
The heroine, Ava/Silver, is a fiery and determined character. She goes through the wringer (an understatement) but never gives up; despite the personal hell that she is living, despite the degradation and loneliness she endures, she never stops fighting for her freedom. But even in the darkness, she finds some light and some hope.
    And even love.
You can’t help but root for her every step of the way.
The three brothers who hold our lovely Ava captive stirred up so many emotions in me. I hated them, pitied them and loved them.
Except one. He was a monster that I just loved to hate.
I was addicted to watching their relationships with Ava grow and develop throughout. Sometimes, I wanted to scream at them all or throw the book across the room, but I had to keep reading.
There’s a twist towards the end and what a twist. And now I am desperate to see what will happen next.
This is a dark, exciting and addictive book that takes you down some heart-stopping roads.
I loved it! Absolutely loved it.
I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone faint of heart. But if you’re looking for a heart-hammering, stomach-dropping, adrenaline pumping and tear-jerking experience, this is for you!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great concept, well executed. Read the trigger warning!

"Death Kiss" has a great concept and AMAZING twists which I loved (the biggest one in particular) which leads me to believe this will be a great series. However, it is called "dark" fantasy for a reason and some parts, one in particular, really made me squirm in my seat. I had goosebumps and felt physically sick. But, I think that just exemplifies this author's talent.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a darker read which will keep surprising you.

So, looking for a bit of a distraction from a non-fiction spell of late, and wow! what a distraction!
This is a proper page turner that you don’t want to put down. Characters bought to life to the point where I felt genuine emotion toward them (and not all pleasant).
Really unique plot and gripping story unlike anything I’ve ever read before, told so cleverly. The idea of the Scrapers is terrifying and stays with you - I found myself watching strangers coming close with a new level of suspicion and fear for a bit!
Some really great unexpected twists that keep you on your toes help to make this one of the best reads I’ve had in a long time.
Love it and can’t wait to see how this pretty dark vision of our world evolves, and how Ava will deal with the revelations!
Oh, and hopefully for Hunter to get another damn good hiding...
Hurry up and write more please!!
    Highly recommend this.

Not my normal reading material, but I really enjoyed this book, easy to read, well written, there are some dark areas of the book, which you may find hard to read but the story keeps you gripped and you need to know what happens next.
The writer has a great amaignation !
A really good twist at the end, didn't see that coming !
    Looking forward to the sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unforgettable story

Sometimes you read a book that really stays with you. One you think about over and over again. That’s the case with this book. The idea is such a unique premise - to be blasted with an image of someone’s death when you kiss them. It strikes me this is very much a marmite book - you’ll either love it or hate it - if you don’t like dark fantasy then this isn’t the book for you because the author takes you to hell and back but if you do then you must read this book it’s a tour de force. Skilfully written and a story you’ll never forget
