**********

When Jo's teenage daughter goes missing, she feels like the world is collapsing around her.

The police believe Grace is just an angry teenager, punishing her parents by hiding out at a friend's house, but Jo is terrified that her daughter is in grave danger. With so little urgency from the police, Jo decides to take matters into her own hands.

But, as Jo gets closer to discovering what has happened to her daughter, a devastating secret is uncovered that threatens to destroy the family she has been trying so very hard to protect...

**********

An addictive psychological thriller, perfect for fans of Rachel Abbott's And So It Begins, Claire McGowan's What You Did and Erin Kinsley's Found.

I have to admit I did not see that ending coming. This is a well-written book, with vivid characters and a well thought out storyline. The author's descriptions of the characters made me feel like I could see and even smell them. Mrs. Joanna was a very clever woman. There is enough karma to go around, and I feel there needs to be a sequel.

The woman in this story was pretty pathetic. She seemed like she was a wonderful Mother. There are many twists and turns and a good ending.

This book held me captive as the story unfolded effortlessly. It makes you question if you ever really know a person- even someone in your own family. This is a dark twisted tale of a girl who goes missing, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. There is so much more to this story than meets the eye. At first glance it seems like a typical missing child story. As we read on it turns into a tsunami of cataclysmic events which picks up speed and magnitude as it races furiously towards the final page. A very exciting read, will def be reading more from this author. Highly recommended.

This book is so good. When you think you have it figured out, something else is thrown in to make you think someone else is guilty. Then another big twist at the end that I did not see coming. I was up late, sayin just one more chapter. Then another one. Definitely recommend this book.

Love how throughout the book you jump from various different characters wondering if they were behind it, and takes a complete twist right at the very end. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too breathtaking
Reviewed in Italy on July 13, 2020
I couldn't resist playing with the subtitle. Actually I don't think the book itself is breathtaking; the choice of the writer is, because it is as if she played at being a Greek tragedy writer, without the necessary skill. It's difficult not to do some spoiling; let me just say that - in spite of the decent writing and some good ideas - the characters ARE NOT believable, and the final shock is, really, too shocking. Unexpected in an unpleasant way. Because it is unbelievable, actually. The last few twists (for those who have read it: what the female protagonist thinks in the graveyard) is really too, too much. I won't buy another book by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Genius Work Of Art
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 5, 2021
'But I don't always dance. Some songs I can't dance to, like her favourite song.'

Karen Cole is a genius. This book is amazing.
    A pure work of art.

Her writing is just mind blowing, one of the, if not THE best writer i have ever come across.
And i read lots of books.

It flows to perfection, totally unputdownable never needing to re-read paragraphs or backtrack.

The settings, scenes and descriptions are the most natural I've ever come across.
So real. I 'saw' it all with so much ease.

All of the characters are so likeable, even the horrible ones because Karen Cole creates her characters with such naturalness.

The novel is solid. Substance, vacuum packed. Absent of a pointless or boring paragraph.

Written in first person through the eyes of Jo, the mother of missing Grace, reveals everything about her world, how she sees, feels and thinks with such brilliant emotional depth.

I love how Karen writes about Jo's actual search for her Daughter; such fine detail with no jumps or skips, keeping it so real.

    Paced to perfection.

The scene where she impulsively decides to get up in the middle of the night to search the spooky house across the road is so vivid. It looked fantastic. It further reveals her desperate optimism. She leaves no stone unturned.

    Perfection from start to finish.

    Utterly flawless.

With an astonishing ending that completely polishes off a fine work of art.

    Deceive Me, a fantastic story.

Karen Cole, nothing short of a genius.
