That's what I was and I had long learned to live with it.
It was easy to ignore the past.

Demi is a college news reporter who feels being assigned to do a fluff sports piece is a waste of her talent & Vincent is a star athlete who doesn’t want anyone to know more about him than his football skills. But once these two start opening up to each other they realize that they both are more complicated than they gave each other credit for.I think these characters are good for each other. Demi cares for Vincent as a human being whether or not she is attracted to him. And while he doesn’t outwardly reciprocate those emotions, you can see the depth of his pain and care for those he considers family.There is a good amount of steam, angst, and love to keep me as a reader interested & I definitely enjoyed this book.

    This story was very captivating. I needed to know what Decker was hiding from his past and how it will unfold.

    This book was a lot about the mutual trust and understanding. How before we can open up to someone we need to trust them. How our past doesn't define us unless we let it.

    Demi is a reporter who had to write an article about football players. Each and every one of them. That's how she meets Decker. She's always trying to find everything out, but she s also kind and intuitive. If there's something that should stay hidden, she'll found out and if it's something that could hurt you, she'd rather not publish it. Her life isn't as it seems too, which for some people could seem differently.

    Our football start Vincent Decker is a hot and mysterious guy. His past is his and nothing to pick about. He knows how to read people, what to look for and what emotions to hide and when. He has close friends who would always have his back, but even they don't know the full truth. We will see how they story of his life and decisions go in this book, so buckle up!

    Some parts of the story reflected my own feelings and emotions. To be honest I liked seeing another "human being" going through the same and trying to figure it out. I didn't feel alone and was able to see and learn.

    I loved this story so much!

    ”This girl scared me. She made me want to spill it. Like she was a chisel and I was a rock, continuously knocking at the surface, watching it crack and break with each hammer. I was going to come apart. And when that happened it was going to be messy.”

    Vincent Decker is a popular playboy on campus but his carefree, easy manner hides a painful past that still haunts him. When Demi Attwood is tasked with writing an article about the football team, there’s no way he wants to give her anything except information for a fluff piece. However, she seems to have a way of looking beneath the surface and getting under his skin.

    ”I want his secrets. I want the thoughts that go through his head when he’s all alone and the dreams he wishes for when no one is looking.”

    Demi doesn’t know why she’s been given the sports journalism piece for the college paper, but she loves writing so she’s give it her best shot. However, Vincent doesn’t make it easy for her- refusing to impart anything of depth to her. He’s even something of a jerk towards her. It’s unfortunate that she finds him a sexy jerk. When Vincent realises that there’s more to Demi that meets the eye, he decides to extend the hand of friendship. Although, are you really supposed to be this attracted to your friend?

    ”I always thought I’d go through life existing, but never really living and then I met you and for the first time I felt like I was alive. I felt my heart pump and my blood rush.”

    This was a slow-burn, sexy read but with plenty of heartache, as well as joy. Vincent is a tough nut to crack. He carries his past around with him like very heavy baggage. He doesn’t trust easily yet, once you’re in his circle, his loyalty and care know no bounds. Demi is a good person. She’s got a lot on her plate, too, but she forges forward with integrity and determination. I loved that she saw through Vincent’s façade to the truly good man he was beneath. These two were like a slow fuse – gently but inexorably burning until they exploded with so much passion and possession. Neither wanted to feel anything for the other, thinking that it wouldn’t go anywhere, yet they both felt truly alive and ‘home’ when they were together. This was a fabulous read and looking forward to Colt’s story

    Demi Atwood is good at reading people; it's something she's gotten good at while being a journalist. When she's given the assignment to write a story on Vincent Decker she's determined to write a good one, but with him deflecting her at every turn she just becomes even more intent on discovering his secrets. He knows how to wear a mask and put on the show everyone wants to see, but there's something about Demi that he can't seem to deny. They definitely know how to push each other's buttons and have seriously undeniable chemistry.

    With the story being in dual POV, we get to experience the side of Decker that not many do with insight into his past and why he wants to keep his secrets buried. The push and pull between Decker and Demi is intense, steamy, and intriguing. While Decker comes off as an arrogant, all-American football player with the perfect life, underneath is a guy that has damage and is scared to let his guard down. He quickly captured my heart in this one and will have you rooting for everything to work out.

    This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and is Decker and Demi’s story. Decker is stubborn and with a past he wants to forget, and he is totally focused on his life goal. Demi is sweet and sassy, and is downtrodden by her family’s pain., but she has a story to write, and she is determined to succeed in her pursuit of Decker to find out what he is hiding. The chemistry between these two is palpable, and I loved how their relationship evolved into friends and more, and they certainly know how to push each other’s buttons and challenge each other. This is a well written story which had me invested and in tenterhooks throughout, as well as having angst, secrets, emotions, witty banter, humor, and love, which all leads to an entertaining and steamy all-consuming tale. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
