A handsome viscount. A headstrong Suffragette. And a cause worth dying for.
She grew up while I wasn’t looking. My sweet little half-cousin is now a beautiful woman. I’ve adored her for as long as I can remember. It’s high time I made her my viscountess.
But there’s just one problem. While my back was turned Clarissa has joined the Suffragette Movement. And now, I gather, she’s incarcerated in Holloway facing their vile force-feeding regime and God only knows what other horrors. I need to act quickly.

I’ve never been more pleased to see my handsome cousin. Always my guardian and protector, James rescued me from that awful place and brought me home to Smallwood where he insists he will keep me safe. And he insists upon employing his own brand of discipline, to teach me the error of my ways.
I want to surrender to him. I love him. I think I always have. But I love the Suffragette cause too. James wants me to submit to his authority and continue the campaign without endangering my life. But this has become a fight to the death, and I will not desert my sisters.

USA Today best selling author Ashe Barker is multi-published and regularly hits the Amazon best seller lists in erotic romance, BDSM and historical. She has been an avid reader of fiction for many years, erotic and other genres. Ashe still loves reading, the hotter the better. But now she has a good excuse for her guilty pleasure - research.

Ashe tends to draw on her own experience to lend colour, detail and realism to her plots and characters. An incident here, a chance remark there, a bizarre event or quirky character, any of these can spark a story idea.

Ashe lives in the wilds of West Yorkshire where she enjoys drinking Earl Grey tea, walking the Bronte moors and listening to Bon Jovi - loud.

Ashe has over eighty titles on general release, with publishers on both sides of the Atlantic, and several more in the pipeline. Most of her books feature BDSM. She writes explicit stories, always hot, but they offer far more than just sizzling sex. Ashe likes to read about complex characters, and compelling plots, so that's what she writes too. Strong, demanding Doms are a given, often paired with new submissives who have a lot to learn.

Ashe has a pile of story ideas still to work through, and keeps thinking of new ones at the most unlikely moments, so you can expect to see a lot more from her.

I really enjoyed this romance set in England in the early 20th century with the push for the women's vote playing a significant part. There is a sexy romance, a trip through history, a snide villain and a dose of discipline. It was a fast and engaging read that I highly recommend!

Ashe Barker’s ‘Deeds Not Words” tells the fictional story of Clarissa, a young upper-class woman who is a staunch believer in the suffragette movement to fight for the rights of women to vote. She joins in the activities of the movement. Clarissa is arrested and throw in prison, where is she is treated roughly and violently force fed for weeks before her former guardian, James, Viscount Smallwood finds out. He uses his money and position to free her.

James is older than her and is an admirable leading man. He does not want her to continue to put herself at risk, but he agrees with the suffragette cause. James encourages Clarissa to utilize her writing skills and pen by writing articles for different papers explaining why women should have the right to vote. Clarissa is smart and courageous, figuring out her place in the world and what she wants in life.

I thought the characters were nicely developed, and enjoyed reading about their relationship. There developed a domestic discipline aspect of the relationship, and it is clearly grounded in mutual love and respect. There are several great secondary characters, and James’ horrible step-sister makes for a great villain. The author does a great job enhancing her fictional story with real history. Clarissa and James have a lovely HEA. The epilogue is a great finish, and delivers some big surprises of its own.

I don't know how historically accurate this book is, but it sure makes me want to learn more about it and it's way better than the way they teach it in school. This book has some taboo that might make some people uncomfortable, so if you're easily offended, this book is probably not for you. In my case, this book was the perfect mix of romance, hot scenes, and historical plot. I don't normally read historical romances, but this book was worth it.

When James finds out that his cousin, Clarissa, is in jail enduring the barbaric practices of the era, he immediately takes steps to rescue her from it. He's always had a crush on her and now that she's old enough, he's finally in a position to act on it. She's not what he remembers, though, she grew up to become a charming and opinionated young lady with dreams to change the world and actions to make them come true. She's involved in the movement for women's rights and she's not about to back down, so when he tells her to take a step back and see how she can help the cause without risking her life, she's livid. He has his methods, though, and after a session of discipline, she finds herself agreeing with him, but can she really make a difference without being in the first row of action? Does she want to? Will she fall for James as he has fallen for her? Is it wrong to want him and letting him take control of her? Can she stop?

This was a well-informed read about the suffragette movement
I am sure that I read a shorter version of this story before and must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this far more extensive story that simply held my attention from the very start to the last page where I was kept on tenta-hooks whilst I waited to discover the final outcome.
The chemistry between Clarissa and her second half cousin James was extremely sensual and the way in which he take responsibility for her and the beliefs she had in the suffragette movement and the way in which he was determined to keep her safe and away from the merciless hands of the police and the jails where they were kept showed his true heart.
There was a great deal of actual references to leaders in the suffragette movement such as Emmeline Pankhurst and Lady Nancy Astor and to be honest this made this book not only a great read but also educational.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Clarissa is a headstrong suffragette who would do any thing for the cause and James is her former guardian who plans on keeping her safe even from herself. She ends up being put in prison and being force fed. He rescues her and plans to punish her in his own way. Will she submit? Fast-paced read with intense chemistry and steam. Great characters and an entertaining story. I loved it!

This is a well written book that follows a fictional personal account of a young woman of peerage that believes in the suffragette movement and joins in. She is arrested and put in prison and force fed for two weeks before her former guardian, James, Viscount Smallwood was informed. He immediately moved to get her out of the prison and back home. He doesn't want her to continue to put herself at risk, but thinks that she can do her part by writing articles for different papers explaining why women need the vote. I enjoyed reading about the relationship that built up between James and Clarissa. I also enjoyed the somewhat personal accounts of women who worked to give future generations the right to vote. James and Clarissa have their HEA and I enjoyed the epilogue immensely.

James and Clarissa are half cousins. He has always had a thing for her adn while he was waiting for her to grow up, she did. She is involved in the suffragatte movement and is imprisoned. He brings her home and wants her to stop and think about another way to help without being in danger. His methods are a little old fashioned but they seem to work. I loved the characters and the dialogue. I really loved this story.
