Defile is the second book in the Civil Corruption series, and I had not read the first, which isn’t a problem as they are stand-alones, but I immediately went and downloaded Corruption after finishing Defile. I love this sexy, messy second-chance romance and adore these friends and bandmates in this series.Tatum and Declan were best friends as kids and transitioned to lovers in high school. They were the forever-kind of couple until Declan’s band hit it big and he made some horrible, immature choices. He broke Tatum’s heart, and they haven’t spoken in ten years. Now, tragedy brings them back together, and Declan isn’t going to miss this opportunity to right his wrongs and win Tatum back.He definitely has to earn her trust, and it is slow going for him to do, which makes the story believable. Tatum guards her heart, but she cannot resist the chemistry they share and decides to have a purely physical relationship with him. Although she believes she can keep it emotion-less, these two are destined to be more.Declan is the type of hero who has to redeem himself, and he does. He’s sweet but also alpha and very sexy, and he genuinely loves Tatum and regrets his mistakes. Their reunion is bittersweet, poignant and romantic.     I love an angsty, second chance romance. Add in a rock-star element and I’m all in! This second book in the Civil Corruption series follows the lead singer Declan and his lost love Tatum. While there were moments when I wanted to smack the characters, overall it was a delicious combo of a spicy romance and redemption story that touches on how fame and youth can blind you to what is important in life.

    Tate and Declan meet as kids, become friends and then lovers. When Declan and the guys of the band, who all grew up together with Tate, make a go of being musicians, she finds them gigs and accompanies them on the road. They get discovered by an agent and things start happening. The lifestyle eventually causes a rift to form between Tate and Declan until one fateful night in Australia, and Tate leaves Declan for good. Both spend the next 10 years haunted by their pasts and what they lost. Tate and the guys are reunited at the funeral of a friend and Declan seeks to right the wrongs of the past and get Tate back.

    Though this is a typical rockstar storyline, I really enjoyed the dynamic between Tate and the rest of the guys. They were a family and everyone has been missing that dynamic for a decade. I love a redeemable alpha-hole and Declan was that through and through. And even though Declan deserved to be smacked a good number of times, in the end I really liked their love story and can’t wait to get to Killian’s story.

    This felt a little like déjà vu at times, it was weird, almost like I knew exactly what was going to happen but I liked it. Again this was just as good as the first book, and now I’m dying and can’t wait till the next one is out. I feel bad for what Tatum had gone through with Declan. Their friendship was the sweetest and the best growing up, even with all the guys. Sometimes mistakes happen, but that doesn’t mean it’s ok or right. For the guys, Tatum means so much to them, she’s like family and no matter what they’ll always fight to the end and have her back. My favorite is in the very beginning, when you see how Tate and Decks friendship first starts out. It’s sweet, cute, and funny. It definitely had me cracking up a bit. Tate isn’t exactly a girly girl, and is more of a tomboy, but she is really very sweet. Deck is more like Mr. big shot tough boy with actually a really big heart. Growing up he’d do anything for Tatum, why, because she’s his girl. I think you mostly think of Declan, as a not so caring bad boy from the first book, but really I think he’s just hurting and more angry at himself for his one mistake in the past that lead to completely loosing Tate. Even the rest of the guys were quite mad at at deck for what he did, and ready to kick his butt themselves. When you see what actually pulled them apart as time goes on, you can’t believe Deck at all until later, when you start to understand why some things happened like they did and what pushed them to happen in the first place. I think the friendship they all have is really the best, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for the rest of the guys. Definitely a number one must.

    This author is incredibly talented and most of her books are really good, but there was no part of me that liked Declan by the end. He was fake and a liar and he really didn’t have any redeeming qualities. And I think the moment for me that ruined the whole book, this might be a spoiler, was when he swore he was gonna get her back, and then she is as the manager, and then he continues to sleep with other people. Yeah no thanks - and unfortunately, I’m not gonna carry on with the series because the next two based on their covers are about Barbie archetypes and I’m not interested

    I am a devoted Jessica Prince fan. I admit that I did not love all her books, but I would never give up on her just because one book was not my thing. With that being said, I completely LOVED this book. Hand to god, at some point, while I was reading, even though I new exactly what was going to happen, my heart was beating out of my chest while breaking for Tatum. I didn’t think I would get to love Declan’s cheating a$s, however, I ended up rooting for him big time. Because, in the end, what do I know about the rockstar life? It was actually very eye opening, and it also spoke of the grittiness of this story, as well as Jessica Prince’s talent to write a good story.

    We also got to revisit with Garrett, Gwen and little Liddy, and we got a cameo from the Girl Talk Show girls!!! With Fiona in tow!!!

    As a final note, even if you didn’t read book one, which is Garrett and Gwen’s book, you’ll be able to read this one on its own. Although, I’d say you should start from the beginning, you won’t regret it :)

I love series that focus on different people in a group - they’re each their own main character but they also play a part in each other’s stories. The emotional intensity hit the spot pretty well too.

    There are a few inconsistencies (first the big complication happens in Australia, then they talk about leaving Amsterdam, then it’s Australia again…then several years later the FMC says she’s never left the States before). I’ve dropped a star for that. Looking forward to reading more from this author now!
