Destroyed by Magic (Guardians of Magic) Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 36 ratings

Power always comes with a price, and sun witch Samara Haylan knows the cost.

Destined to become the strongest witch in her academy, Samara's powers are increasing. Like all supernaturals, she’s forbidden from practicing old magic or dating humans, two things she can’t resist. Aside from her shifter and mage boyfriends, she finds herself falling for a human. A love that she refuses to give up, no matter what the cost.

As if sneaking around with a human isn’t dangerous enough, she delves into old magic to aid in the search for her missing friends. The council is furious and they’re pointing fingers in Samara’s direction. Now, she must not only clear her name but also find proof that humans and supernaturals can coexist.

The harder Samara searches for answers, the more problems she faces. If she doesn’t locate her friends, she’ll lose more than her position in the coven. She’ll lose her powers, and maybe her life.

After all, no one knows what happens to banished witches.

Destroyed by Magic was originally published in the Paranormal Academy boxed set. This is a reverse harem paranormal romance. There are no love triangles in this book. She gets to choose them all.

"A few months ago, I’d noticed a shift in the veil’s energy field which protected the supernatural realms from the human one. While I didn’t think a human could find any portals, I sensed a weakness in the barrier between our worlds. Old magic could keep it intact, but it was forbidden to practice it. New magic wouldn’t be enough to save us if the veil broke. Neither would I. " - Samara

Samara Haylan, a sun witch, is powerful, reckless and headstrong. She chafes at restraints placed on her by the covens and the Council, and she knows, SHE KNOWS, that it's way past time to update the rules about fraternization between the races on both sides of the veil.

When two of her close friends, Rose and Natasha go missing, Samara is determined to discover where they are and what happened to them. Reporting their disappearances to the Council only seems to serve up suspicions directed against HER. Using old magic is forbidden, but Samara will do whatever it takes to find and rescue her friends... Even if it requires the ultimate sacrifice...

This is an easy read, which ends on a huge cliff-hanger. But it definitely has me wanting to know what will happen with Samara and her guardians.
It's a fast-paced tale and jumps right in with both feet. I found it a little hard to get a grasp of what was going on and would have enjoyed a bit more background information about Samara and her guardians. While the information does seep in, I found myself feeling as if I was missing something half of the time.
Still, it was a fun read and I'll be looking forward to diving into the first book.

Great story. The drama and suspense builds page by page. Very different from other paranormal romances! Highly recommend this author.

How can a little witch Ben so lucky. Not only is she intended for coven royalty but she has 2 hot boyfriends in her realm and one in the human world. How she manages to spend time with all of them while keeping her guardians from putting her under house arrest is a lot like watching a dog bury a bone to find later. Make sure no one is watching.

Samara has a lot on her plate and with the help of Draven and Zander she might have a chance of finding her missing friends. But, her guardians aren’t on the same page as her and it will take some convincing to get them to agree to help.

I can’t wait to read the entire series, looks like sparks are flying in her realm and the human realm, paranormal and pheramonal. I love her strong persona.

A phenomenal short read! In just a small amount of pages, Elena Gray made me fall deep for not only Samara but her guardians, her men, and her cause. Not only her search for her friends but also for the ability to love who you wish and be able to be your true self with them.

This story was full of mystery and intrigue. It was action packed and I just loved the whole concept from beginning to end.

I can’t wait to read more!

I loved the storyline and think it is very intriguing, but I would have liked to see more information on the characters and backgrounds. For it just helps me feel like I am not coming into the story without information. Otherwise, it is fantastically written and the characters are stunningly, beautifully developed. It is extremely well written and keeps you on your toes with it’s mystery that is involved. It is a quick, fast paced story that draws you in. It does end in a cliffhanger but definitely has you wanting more. As prequels are never very long it does an excellent job of pulling you in. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Destoyed by Magic is the prequel novella to Abducted by Magic which adds contex to the later books. Its an enjoyable short storey. This book introduces you to Samara and her two lovers with a 3rd hovering on the outskirts. It also introduces you to her protectors: 4 Gargoyles all with different peronalities who will protect her at all costs even if its from herself.
    Really enjoyable short storey

I had mixed feelings about the book. I liked it wasn't another origin story and you were thrust straight to the story and their life but I felt it was dragging a bit .
