Detour: A Creekwood Novel (Creekwood Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 5,199 ratings

Welcome to Creekwood...

Your new obsession.

Angela

Head down, eyes peeled for any opportunity to get off the dead-end course my mother carelessly paved for me years ago.
My plan takes a sharp turn landing me directly across the hall from Creekwood’s resident bad boys. The three bikers are as stubborn as they are sexy and they. Are. Sexy. Especially the one with the mocha swirl eyes watching my every move.
Even the six-foot hallway separating us can’t keep the overbearing trio from constantly getting in my way, but when my past threatens to catch up with me, I quickly learn not every detour promises an easier route, no matter how tempting my new neighbors might make it look.

Coty

Head up, eyes locked on anything threatening to throw me off the carefully constructed path I have mapped out.
I live my life the same way I ride my bike, never once regretting the roads I’ve chosen.
Lately though, after years of the same scenery, everything’s starting to blur together. It’s only when our elusive neighbor girl comes out of nowhere that I realize what’s been missing. And now that I have, I don’t think I can let her pass by so quickly.
At least not without proving the lengths I’ll go for her first.

    For romance fans!!!
Attention all romance fans! ⚠️ This is the debut novel from @a.mariebooks (an author and fellow bookstagrammer!) When I saw she was self publishing her first book (and I saw this cover 😍) I knew I wanted to order myself a copy. • I really enjoyed it! It took a little while to get to the steamy scenes, but once we got there. Oh boy. They were hot. If you’re a fan of steamy romance, then I definitely recommend you check this book out. It was so much more than just a steamy romance though. It’s about family and loyalty, standing up for yourself and for the people you love. • Angela did get on my nerves a little bit and there was quite a bit of back and forth before things started getting steamy. I just wanted to push them together and say just get it on already! 😂 • Overall, I really enjoyed the story and I look forward to checking out the next book in the series. I really hope the next book is about Beckett because he was my favorite! You can’t help but love him. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

First, I loved the storyline and how the book was written. I think the author did a great job with character development and made it easy for me to imagine different scenes throughout the book.

The spice was spicing but not until the last few chapters of the book. Normally this would be an issue for me when I go into a book expecting it throughout, but the plot was so good, I didn’t even notice until the end.

My first real problem with this book and something that seemed to bother me the most, is the rambling. I found myself skimming through the pages, only for the main character to still be rambling. It felt like page fillers for me and just wasn’t necessary for character/plot development.

My second issue the MFC. I know that her storyline has to do with childhood trauma and what that can look like in relationships, but man she was a bit much. I feel like the “woe is me” was played extra hard and then at the last minute, she was like “actually, I’m worth love”. I would have liked to see her build up to realizing she was worth love instead of the overnight, 180.

Other than those things, the book was overall great. I don’t plan on finishing the series because I’m just not interested in the other characters, but that’s a me problem, not a book/author problem.

I’m gonna start with saying this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.. Some might think it’s cheesy/cringy if you’re not a fan of romance..

I on the other hand LOVED!! It’s such a cute, fun, and great book. The story line is good and it had me laughing and kicking my feet while reading !

I love the friendship Angie has with all the boys especially Beck. I love how each friendship is different and there’s no competition between them. I would recommend this book to anyone who’s just looking to read for fun and doesn’t think romance is cringy! Ima scale of 🌶️ I would give it a one. It has just the right amount for someone who is barely getting into it but I also loved that it was too overly spicy (in my opinion).

The only bad critic I would have is that I wished Coty had more POV instead of just Angie. But over all I lived it and had such a good time reading it 🩵😌

I found Detour on Instagram last week and I’m so glad I found this book. I started reading it last night and stayed up to 2am reading and then woke up and re-read the last 25% of the book again. I’m now thoroughly obsessed with the Creekwood boys and can’t wait for more.

This is a coming of age story about a young girl who has lived a life without any love and with an emotionally & physically abusive mother. Angela is 18 and finally on her own. She is trying to find her way to a better life than her mother has or ever gave her. And then she meets her neighbors...three friends who have forged their own family. They are hard to ignore as they try to befriend her and she is definitely having a hard time staying away from the beautiful and sweet Coty. But what happens when the girl who has never known love believes she has nothing to offer Coty or her new friends except drama and ugliness? Isn’t she better off alone?

I loved this book. It was emotional but also so funny (Beckett was so outrageous). It hurt my heart to watch Angela push everyone away but it also made me so happy when Coty never gave up on her. For them all being so young, they were loyal, determined and strong. This story was written with such maturity with perfect moments when you get to see how young these characters really are. And then you remember what they have all overcome and you fall for all of them a little more. Overall, this is definitely a 5+ star book for me. And now I’ll impatiently wait for the next Creekwood boy to get his story.

This book was good. I liked the beginning. I wish she got to actually see her in school not just it mentioned it took me out of the book. It felt kind of lazy like there could have been at least a scene or two of her actually going through the day. The couple was cute. I like how in the end everything did work out and they are happy. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the next book plug of course but it wasn’t super bad like other books where it completely takes over the epilogue. The book overall was average. It was good but not great. It just missed an oomph for me but I still enjoyed it. I will eventually read the others and see if maybe they are more my style. Overall pretty good. 3/5

      - Coty

      No truer words are spoken.

This story…gosh, this story. I don’t think I can call it a story, it’s more of a journey. You’re going on this journey with Angela as she tries to break away from her mother’s abuse and as she discovers her self worth, even love.

“The scar left behind will forever serve as a reminder of a hard lesson learned but I can move on knowing I kept my composure when I could’ve easily buckled from the pressure.“
      - Angela

You’re also riding on this journey with Coty as he falls in love with Angela. We see he, too, has insecurities about her loving him back. He is so very patient with Angela as he tries to get her to see she is in control, she has the power, that she has a family..one she chose not the one she was born to. I LOVED Coty, his patience and love for Angela was so inspiring. He was this strong, sexy biker boy next door with a squishiness just for her.

The journey of the found family of Coty, Marc & Beckett was, hmmm…I don’t want to say sweet, but it was that and so much more. They three have an unbreakable bond forged from childhood and the need to escape their shitty families. That they accepted Angela into the fold immediately, and before she even knew, shows how much of an effect she had on all of them and how much she was coming to mean to them. She wasn’t only their neighbour girl and friend but also their family. Loved Beckett and his silliness, and Marc with his seriousness. I can wait to read their stories.

      A. Marie does such an amazing job of sucking you into the story line. You become invested in the main characters from the very first line of the story with Angela’s mother telling her, “You ruined my life.” She weaved the story so well that I couldn’t put the book down, but when I did I couldn’t help thinking about it, about what happens next. There were no road bumps along the way, no grammatical errors, or spelling errors, or even punctuation issues. It was smooth sailing. Whoever did the editing did a fabulous job.

“She and I are a certainty, not a chance opportunity. She was on a really bumpy detour that ultimately led her right to Creekwood, right to me, which is exactly where she’s supposed to be, where she was always going to end up. Life just gave her a longer route to reach me.” -Coty

Really didn't expect this book to take me on a beautiful and emotional journey like it did. It has great characters and really good plot that carry those emotions really well. I laughed, I cried and I honestly bonded with these characters that I can't wait to read the next one. This is not your average romance, it is so well written and so emotionally complex. It really takes you on that emotional journey in a way few authors can achieve. Really recommend.
