Devil's Hour (Zero Hour Book Two) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,655 ratings

Devil’s hour, noun: the hour when the demon or devil who leads hell is at its strongest.

Born on the wrong side of the tracks, Royce Locke is no stranger to scrapping and fighting for the things he wants. What he desires most is Sawyer Key—his partner on the force and the man he’s falling in love with. After asking Sawyer to take a chance on him, Royce will need to back up his pretty words with fearless action instead of being his own worst enemy.

Someone is harassing the mayor of Savannah, and Locke and Key are tasked with finding out who. The investigation quickly takes a twisted turn, leading them to an enemy who thinks purification by fire is the only way to save the city. Scarier than The Purists’ elusiveness is their ability to turn public opinion in their favor, creating unrest and threatening anarchy by fanning flames and fear. When you play with fire, someone is bound to get burned.

When menace becomes murder, the two detectives will race the clock against the devil to save their beloved city from becoming a raging inferno. Royce will need to draw on his grit now more than ever if he hopes to realize the dreams that are finally within reach. The rag is lit, the Molotov cocktail is tossed, and the zero hour is upon them. Challenge received and accepted.

Devil’s Hour is the second book in the Zero Hour series, which follows Locke and Key’s investigations and evolving relationship. This is a series that must be read in order. Devil’s Hour has a happy-for-now ending with no cliffhanger. It contains mature language and sexual content intended for adults 18 and older.

Trigger warning: Part of the storyline involves coming to terms with a friend’s suicide, which may be difficult for some people to read.

Hot and Steamy Read.
Welcome back Royce and Sawyer I have missed you. Aimee has hit the anil on the head again with this follow up story which shows their relationship moving forward with yet again another case to solve. The way the author expresses these two is amazing and it makes you feel like you live in their world. I highly recommend this book but you must read Ground Zero first otherwise you will miss the amazing connection these 2 have.

There is always a risk in MM series where one of the MC's is openly gay and the other is perceived to be straight, or maybe considers himself potentially bisexual. It takes a combination of a plot line that will bring out the truth in both men as well as having two characters that are not only realistic but also sympathetic for the reader.

In this case the first book dealt with the even tempered and openly gay Sawyer Key and this one with the arrogantly explosive personality Royce Locke, who form the detective partnership named (absurdly but in the end logical) after their last names.

The key to this series for me, at least, is that the publisher and author decided to realistically portray each man on the cover of the book which follows him more closely. In this one, the cover tells almost the whole story about Royce Locke.

    Except.

It's still a bit eyebrow raising to slide into this one totally accepting that Royce has come over to the other side--but in the end that is his nature, determined to stick with it when it turns out to be not only acceptable, but also right.

It also helped that the plot, outlined very well in the blurb, moves along at a solid and red-herring like pace so that we are quite prepared to deal with the finale in the series, which comes up next with both these gorgeous hunks on the cover.

Detectives Locke and Key face religious fanatics, a deadly arsonist, and relationship hurdles. This is just a damn good yarn with interesting, dynamic, and sometimes funny MCs. The premise is entertaining, too.

This series is really good so far. There's a lot of heat between the MCs but it adds to the storyline rather than taking over the whole book. The sexy times are fire, and the affection in between is sweet and relatable (relationship goals).

I love this author's writing style, and I look forward to reading all her work. This series kinda reminded me of AJ Sherwood's more procedural PNRs (think Jon) but without the PNR and a little more procedural. Unputdownable for sure and downright funny at times.

10 out of 10. Definitely recommend.

I couldn't find TWs in the book, and they're worth mentioning. Possible spoilers/TWs: off page suicide and cheating comes up a lot (in relation to a friend of the mc), religious cult, off page domestic violence/abuse, homophobia. There's probably others, but those stood out for me. It was tough at times with tears and all the feels, but I don't regret picking this book up at all.

Fantastic! This was even better than the last and I am practically vibrating with the need to go on to the next! Loved that this installment was from royce's pov.

There are so many good things about this book that I can't really describe them properly. Romance was too notch, the overall plot was layered and interesting, the characters just keep developing more and more as the series continues (Even the secondary and tertiary characters), and the writing flowed well from beginning to end. The subplot of marcus's story was also well done. I REALLY want to know what that is all about.

700 stars for an amazing continuation of a great series.

Cleansing of evil through fire. Cleansing of the morally corrupt and hypocritical, is it vigilante justice or is their a sinister motive behind it? Locke and Key are put on the case to solve the mystery fires and threats made to the Mayor. The amount of slimey things people in high ranks were doing is something I only wish was in fiction.

Read book 1 first for important back stories and character developments.

This book is awesome. This book is written from Royce’s POV instead of Sawyer’s like the first one was. They are trying to stop a vigilante hate group that claims to be “cleansing” the city of corruption. The action doesn’t let up as the main characters are still still trying to work on their relationship. I honestly didn’t think that I would find a duo that I loved as much as Gabe and Josh from Aimee’s Curl up and Dye series but Royce and Sawyer are proving me wrong! I can’t wait to read the next book!

This is such a good series and this time we get Locke's point of view. This is such a good series action packed loveable characters and supporting characters new characters introduced as well as a continuation from the first book but with new cases and villains. A very good read from beginning to end I loved Locke's point of view just like I enjoyed Key's in the first book. Very entertaining and well written with few if any editing issues but not enough to take away from this awesome series 5 Star's!

Royce and Sawyer are burning up the pages in the second book in this series. For Royce and Sawyer it's just another day on the job, trying to stop another criminal from setting fire to the sinners of Savannah. It's like watching your favourite crime drama only written in the pages of this book. I look forward to the conclusion of Royce and Sawyers story.

In this second volume, their city’s mayor is under serious risk and being blackmailed by a cult of purists.

There comes Locke and Key again into the scene to investigate and solve this mysterious situation.

Their relationship intensifies and gets even more profound as they get more and more attached.

Excellent writing, amazing scenes described with such a richness you think you are watching a movie.

The second I'd finished book 1 in the series, I had to buy book 2 and read it there and then! This book picks up a few weeks after the events of book 1, with Royce healed and heading back to work. I enjoyed that this time we got to hear from Royce's POV and get inside his head a bit more. Once again filled with action, I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it in one sitting! The ending (not a cliff hanger) gives an insight into what the events may include for book 3 and I, for one, CANNOT WAIT!! Definitely recommend this book to all who enjoy MM romance and suspense. It's one of the best series I've had the pleasure of reading for a long time!

Annnndd my obsession just got a whole lot bigger for these two sexy guys Royce & Sawyer ... Aimee Nicole Walker delivers another amazing read with Devil’s Hour!
I didn’t want it to end , I was trying to read slowly to absorb all that’s exceptionally wonderful with these two guys but found myself reading faster just to see what happens next.

These two utterly sexy partners continue to light up and just get better and better, more love, more banter and more bad guys to deal with .
You can’t help but fall head over heals with Royce. Once that guy puts everything into something... it’s a beautiful thing to see. His love, devotion and protection of Sawyer made me swoon. Seeing him evolve into a man worthy for his lover gave me chills and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

This Author knows exactly how to write a story that keeps us all on the edge of our seat with excitement, leave us always wanting more. Her storytelling is sublime and her brilliant words come together perfectly to take us on a journey we never want to come back from.

I highly recommend both Ground Zero & Devil’s Hour. Sawyer & Royce are my top 5 all favorite couple . I challenge anyone to read these two books and not fall in love with them

A lot is squished in at the end but it is enoyable getting there. We have Royce dealing with the past trauma of Marcus and his new promotion. We also have an arsonist and Locke's family causing problems. Sawyer is there to support Locke and their relationship reaches new heigts. This is a really good sequel. There are still ongoing puzzles to solve although not a cliffhanger. The books must be read in order as they are not standalone. Action, mystery and romance all the way.
