Devious Lies: A Standalone Enemies-to-Lovers Romance Kindle Edition
From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Parker S. Huntington comes an enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn romance full of revenge and a dash of fate.
“She could enjoy her pretty, perfect world a little longer. Soon enough, everything she owned would be mine.”
I had a plan to escape the friend zone.
Step one: sneak into Reed’s room.
Step two: sleep with him.
But when the lights turned on, it wasn’t familiar blue eyes I saw.
These were dark, angry, and full of demons.
And they belonged to Reed’s much older brother.
Four years later, Nash Prescott is no longer the help’s angry son.
I’m no longer the town’s prized princess.
At twenty-two, I’m broke, in need of a job.
At thirty-two, he’s a billionaire, in need of revenge.
Who cares if my family ruined his?
Who cares if he looks at me with pure loathing?
Who cares if every task he assigns me is designed to torture?
I need the money.
Simple as that.
I’ll suffer his cruelty in silence, knowing there’s one thing he wants more than revenge…
Me.
Note: Devious Lies is a standalone billionaire office romance. If you love banter and angst, this book is for you! Welcome to Eastridge. Enter if you dare.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2019Okay...my friends, it must be said. You absolutely, positively MUST read this book. Yeah, cause it’s that dang good. This book covers so many genres at one time. So you’ve got Bully romance, Best friends brother, Office romance and age-gap romance. All my favorites all in one fabulous book!
If you read The anti-fling in the Spring Fling anthology, you are already somewhat familiar with Emery Winthrop and Nash Prescott. I was craving more of them, so I was super excited when I saw Devious Lies was coming. Plus I happen to be a super huge Parker S. Huntington fan as well, so this is a win all around. Getting to ARC read this Baby was such a highlight for me.
Emery is the rich girl who is BFF’s with the help’s son, whom she also happens to be in love with. One night Em makes a huge mistake and beds the wrong brother, she totally thought it was finally her chance with her long time BFF. Shorty after that event her entire world crumbles. A scandal has ripped apart her small town, leaving families destroyed and financial ruin and devastation in its wake. Fast forward several years later and this beautiful woman is nothing like the rich, pampered princess, she once was. Living a life most would compare to poverty level, for reasons she keeps hidden. She accepts help from her best friend through a job hook up. She is desperate and that means taking a job working for Nash Prescott, the older brother she slept with, the man whose family lost everything due to the actions of her father. The man who despises her. Would he even allow her to work for him? What will his response be when he sees just how far the mighty have fallen?
I love Emery, her character is so strong willed, and stubborn. She’s amazing, self-sacrificing, even to a fault. She’s so caring and humble. She just wanted to wright wrongs that she didn’t even commit. I was amazed by her. I’m just in love with her, and my heart breaks for her. At any time she could have changed her situation by giving into her mother’s demands, but she was too strong for that. I love that she wasn’t backing down from her, from Nash or anybody else.
Now, Nash. He made something of himself. He went from nothing to everything. He knew deeply some of the ways in which he accomplished that weren’t right but he just didn’t care, or maybe he did, but with his IDGAF attitude you’d never know it if he did. He tried to tell himself he didn’t feel guilty but that just wasn’t true either. As far as a boss go he was a straight shooter and was gonna tell you what he thought and could care less what you thought, he had no filter and couldn’t give a poo about your feelings. However he was so good to people in the community, he gave back to those less fortunate. He really was the nicest most generous turd around. When Emery shows up working for him, he sees his opportunity to get revenge and information at the same time. This gorgeous cruel boss tries to instantly cut her down and put her in her place. But will she bring him to his knees as well? Has the great Nash Prescott met his match? How well will Nash handle his orders not be followed? She’s really the perfect person to verbally spar with him. My own undergarments melted from the beginning tension between these two. GAH!!
I literally couldn’t put this book down. It had suspense and mystery, the most delicious tension. Characters you love and some you want to hate and have to root for and love again and I just had to know what was going to happen. There was not a boring moment in the book, and it was a pretty long book. It legit kept me captivated from the first page to the last. I’m definitely marking this in my top reads of 2019!
My cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book!
⭐️⭐⭐️⭐⭐⭐️- I have to add a sixth star for my blog rating cause this is definitely one of my top reads of 2019! This is like a Bully/ Best friends Brother / Age-Gap. It has everything you could possibly want!
🔥🔥🔥🔥-Holy Hot biscuits and Gravy!! Emery and Nash are everything! 🧨 BEYOND HOT Y’ALL💥
🌪Cliffhanger Warning-No cliffhanger! IFloved this!! #Perfection
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2023Nash and Emery were enjoyable characters to read as they dance around the endpoint of this romance. The story was interesting and had some plot points left to the end to be revealed, making it purposeful to get through the book. I liked the evolution of characters through this book as well as the quirks of each lead character. I will say, this book was easy to read but a bit long. I can see that it could have been edited down by several hundred pages without losing impact. I felt like the buildup to one of the grand reveals was not worth the secret at the end of it all. I felt the multiple memories of childhood interactions were sweet. I can see the point of the author’s goal to create a complex history between the two main characters- but I’m not sure that it contributed to the final resolution of the plot in the way that the star crossed lovers usually rely on history and memories to guide them. Overall, the subplot of messaging each other also felt out of place. I think this is a book that has many moments worth reading and it’s certainly a tad different with elements that made it unique. An enjoyable time if you’re prepared for the length.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2020Wow... it can mean many things. Like wtf did I just read, or can I read slower so the book doesn’t end or why can’t the book keep going after the last page or,
simply- amazing writing, characterization, plot, and, above all, love between the main characters.
Emery was raised with a silver spoon and Nash’s brother Reed is her best friend. Nash and Reed’s parents work for Emery’s family, so they’re considered part of the “help.” One day, when Emery is 18, she sneaks into Reed’s bed to finally confess her love to him and get “close” to him, but it isn’t until the lights turn on that she realizes that the man that has given her the best sex of her life is none other than Reed’s much older brother Nash. They promise to keep quiet. Soon after, sh*t hits the fan and she no longer is the “princess” everyone has made her out to be and is living in very poor conditions. Meanwhile, Nash has built an empire and is now a billionaire. But don’t let all that money fool you. Although he has a heart of gold and gives back to the community, he also seeks revenge for what happened to his family (his father died of a heart attack after losing his job with Emery’s family and blames them all). Emery is trying to atone for what happened as well. Their paths collide once again after Reed gets her a job working for Nash and sparks fly. Even though she was his employee, she didn’t back down from a challenge and went toe-to-toe against him many times. I loooooved it.
The banter, the chemistry, the connection, the depth of the feelings between Nash and Emery was slow-burn but also explosive at times. I love that this book is written in different parts, each part has its own meaning and are interconnected seamlessly. Emery’s love of words and Nash’s understanding of it all was not only insightful but adorable and visceral. I found myself googling things- what amazing work Huntington did when writing this book. The double edge sword of understanding and interpretation throughout the book was brilliant. The fact that Emory has a spine and didn’t let her situation/circumstances lessen her demeanor and actions is admirable. I loved that she stood up to Nash, especially behind closed doors but in plain sight as well. I found myself swooning many times, facepalming my face, and even giggling. Looooooved it.
Honestly, this is definitely one of my top reads of the year. I have found another favorite author and am so excited to read more of her work. If this is how her slow-burn books read, I can’t wait to read other kinds. Just simply amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime
Wow.
I don't know where to start, and I know I can't do this book justice in my review, but this is one very special book. It is knock-me-down-with-a-feather FANTASTIC. This is a gem of a tale. It's big, it's gutsy, it's an amazingly well crafted enemies-to-lovers story.
I have read the Anti-Fling by Ms Huntington (a very short story) about these two amazing people: Emery and Nash, and I knew in my bones that their story deserved a full novel. This book exceeded any expectations I had for that story by a country mile, and then a further nautical mile on top of that! The characters are so well drawn and believable. They are flawed and quirky, struggling, angry and proud. The themes of penance, revenge, forgiveness and truth run throughout, and these two characters have an undeniable chemistry and sense of fate.
I have to commend the authors craft. Her words. The unusual, obscure words. I think she really must have put her heart and soul, and her whole everything into this story. It is absolutely amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Loved it
This was quite a journey for Nash and Emery. It is a long one too! Not a lot of traditional romance and a definate slow burn of hate/love. It had loads of humour to keep you entertained along the way. I loved how Emily stayed true to herself and loved her determination and her words. (Maybe a little too stubborn for her own good at times). Love this author!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very well written and the character quirks get old
Ot starts very good but about half way through it becomes such a drag. It should have had an explosive and brief ending then would have been a 4 star. I didn't like th writing. It is not consistent and just a bit too wordy

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read
Slow-burn
Angsty
Devastatingly handsome alpha hero
Strong resilient beautiful heroine
A match made in a starless sky
Pure perfection
Tie it all with magic words and you have one hell of a perfect story
I’m so glad to wrap up my reading year with this gem, I couldn’t put it down and yet I didn’t want to read it too fast and be suddenly at the end of my journey. There is actually one word to describe this type of feeling: finifugal “hating endings”.
