Devoured: An Escape from Reality Series Novella Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

What started out as an ordinary camping trip quickly turns dark when a group of teenagers hits the quirky, wooded town of Escape, Colorado. Known for its hiking trails and legends about a shifting creature that lives in the woods, the teens never expected to come face to face with it. But that was then.
This is now.
It’s tall. It has razor-like teeth. Its tangled claws have a reach longer than its rectangular face.
And confronted with a monster unlike anything the teens have ever read about, they have two choices: outsmart or be devoured…

Rena Marin was born in a small town in East Tennessee where she, her husband Daniel, and two children—Cody and Amber—still reside today.

Growing up, reading and writing her own stories was Rena’s favorite pastime. Her once-unreachable dream of becoming a published writer came true when she was in high school and found herself with many writing awards and accolades, including a short story in Reader's Digest.

After starting her own business, Rena continued writing shorts online before moving on to freelance work. Taking a chance, she and a friend submitted a novel to their first publishing company and were delighted to be accepted.

As a member of Crazy Ink Publishing, Rena now has several co-written series underway, including the Dead Oak Terrors Series. Halloween Nightmare, the first book in that series, recently won the Reality Bites Best Horror Book of 2018. Rena also has her own solo series called The Witches of Dark Hollow Ridge. She looks forward to bringing readers with her into a world of magic and adventure.

Keeping close to her short story roots, Rena is part of several anthologies with many more in the works.

A lover of all forms of entertainment, Rena enjoys horror and fantasy movies new and old. When she isn't writing or working, she often finds herself cuddled on the couch with her family—including their five fur babies—and lost in a fantasy world or hoping to be scared.

A great spooky read just in time for Halloween!

A great spooky read just in time for Halloween!
When you go camping and hear that twig break when it's dark and you are in your tent, panic sets in because you don't know what's out there.... Rena Marin has taken that fear a step farther and brought us one spooky story that will leave you looking over your shoulder every time you hear something in the woods from now on. Take a trip with Billy who already lost his younger brother to the beast in the hills. Now his friends are camping up in the exact same spot Billy and his brother were and they invited him to stay with them. What they expect and what they get are two completely different things and nobody is prepared for the horrendous things that are about to happen to them. The end will have your brain wondering if that really just happened! I enjoyed reading Devoured so much that I devoured this book up in one sitting. I can't wait to see what Rena Marin comes up with next

Devoured was a very good book to read. I was so saddened with how clay died and try to save tess. Had to act like the cold weather was giving me sniffles. But at the end it looks like tess may have a plan to go back to that monster that is clay.

I love a good creature feature story and this one is certainly up there with the best. The author wastes little time in getting right to the action, but also manages to build characters that you sympathize with when the horrors begin. A fantastic horror novella.

That was some darn good horror storytelling. Definitely, looking forward to reading this author's other books.

Ok that was horrific but so good. If I watched that in movie format, I wouldn't sleep for a week.

The cover of this book was absolutely stunning in a chilling kind of way. The prologue was intense, scary, and powerful thus pulling me right into the story. I could already tell that this would be a terrifying and entertaining addition to the Escape series. The pace and flow of the story were terrific and that ending left me speechless!

Well thanks to Rena Marin when I'm out hiking I'll be wondering what made the leaves rustle or tig snap. She did an awesome job of bringing the monster and horrors to life. I always look forward for the next story she has spinning around in her head!

Wow!! What can I say about this book without giving anything away? How about holy Christ! I am freaked out right now. I will never look at the woods the same again. That ending...I'm left trembling with fear. Definitely the perfect creepy Halloween story.
