Dirty Player (A Rough Riders Novel Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,022 ratings

As MVP tight end for the Rough Riders, I’m used to getting what I want. When I want.

If my sexy as sin looks don’t seal the deal, my larger than life bankroll does.

Plus, once women see what I’m packing below the belt, they always come back for more. And I’m happy to oblige, before sending them on their satisfied way.

None of that matters now. My sights are set on a Super Bowl ring—kicking ass on the field and staying focused are my only options, getting distracted is not.

Then Shannon Hale shows up and suddenly I’m fumbling like a rookie over the quarterback’s sassy little sister.

She’s not like other women. Wants nothing to do with me... NFL’s resident playboy. The harder she pulls, the more I push.

Now the only game I want to win involves getting her in my bed, but I still have one little problem. She’s very much off limits.

Good thing I’ve learned when you’re playing for keeps, sometimes you have to play dirty.

Shannon moves to be closer to her brother after she finds out that her fiancé is cheating on her. She has always supported her brother and his football career, while putting her dreams on hold to be sure Beau could fulfil his dream of being a professional football player. With a new start in life, t's her time to shine now with her jewelry business. Just as she is focusing to get it up and running in comes Oliver Powell, one of Beau's teammates. Having suffered a broken heart years ago from his ex-wife, Oliver wants nothing to do with relationships and is not known for being a nice guy. Shannon and Oliver meet only to find out their attraction is mutual and something they can't avoid. Because they are both busy with their respective careers, they come to an agreement on the timeframe in which their "relationship" will last. Their chemistry causes them both to question what they really want out of this relationship and show a side of themselves that everyone doesn't see. This was a great read with likable characters. Their chemistry was very hot and sexy! I look forward to seeing what might come next in this series.

I am absolutely stunned speechless, desperately trying to figure out how to even begin to articulate how this book DESTROYED me. It ravaged me, tore my heart from my chest and ripped it to pieces, set it to flames, and made it melt into a satisfied puddle of goo all at the same time while begging for MORE, MORE, MORE! This book was PHENOMENAL. There's no other way to say it. It was breathtaking, stole the breath right from my lungs, and had my heart pounding in my chest with how utterly PERFECT this book is.

WHEW! Trying to reign in my unabashed obsession with this book is not easy.

This book was beyond addicting. I literally PLOWED through this book, devouring it at light speed. I couldn't get enough of it. It was IMPOSSIBLE to put down. It was THAT good.

This amazing book starts out with the short, curvy brown-eyed brunette, Shannon Hale cheering on her little brother, Beaux who has been traded to the Raleigh Rough Riders NFL football team as the starting quarterback. She is SO proud of him. Growing up, she and Beaux had a difficult life with different fathers and Shannon taking care of her mother, who had eventually died due to heart failure. Shannon has selflessly set aside everything in her life to help Beaux reach for his dreams. She was essentially his mother growing up since their own worked all the time or was too ill to drive Beaux around. Despite their difficult upbringing, her and Beaux are closer than ever and she loves nothing more than supporting her little brother, even if that means setting her jewelry making dreams aside.

Suddenly, though, Shannon has an opportunity to chase those dreams. She had just broken off an engagement after catching her ex-fiance screwing one of his employees and decides to move in with Beaux. She is heartbroken but uses this opportunity to chase after the dreams she had that were stifled when she was with Patrick, the rich Irish man whose family never approved of her poor upbringing.

While at the fan football gathering that Shannon is at to support her brother, she meets Oliver Powell, one of Beaux's teammates who is unbelievably cocky, surly, and intense. The attraction between them ignites right from the get-go. They decide to explore this attraction, but only for a month. Oliver is determined to not let anything get in his way of the Super Bowl ring he so desperately wants. But the inferno chemistry between them consumes them in a firestorm of passion and soon neither of them is getting out without someone getting burned.

This story was INTENSE. Like solar flare burning everything in its wake INTENSE. These characters were so well fleshed out, so perfectly laid bare. I have to honestly say, this book had SO MUCH MORE depth than I thought was possible for a sports romance. I mean, I've read some awesome books, but this hits right up there with Jasinda Wilder & R.K. Lilley. I mean, I was utterly shocked with the amount of intensity and depth in the character development. It was so incredibly well written, in a way that I can honestly say I've only witnessed a couple times (with Wilder & Lilley).

    But HOT DAMN, this book.

The sexy times were beyond fantastic. Some of the hottest, most scorching love scenes I've seen put to page. I swear my Kindle will never recover after being loved so thoroughly by Oliver & Shannon. I'm usually not a fan of backdoor action but it was so perfectly placed in this book that I couldn't help but LOVE it. I'm just in awe of this book and how utterly phenomenal it was.

The writing in this was eloquent and flowed seamlessly, flawlessly. The editing in this was so great, too. About as perfect as you can get.

The side characters were SO MUCH FUN, too! Nothing kills a book for me quite like annoying, terrible side characters... but Stacey Lynn knew how to craft ALL of her characters with such care and attention to make them nothing short of perfect and so easy to love.

The magnetic pull between Oliver and Shannon was undeniable. Sometimes there's a bit of a question in the chemistry between the characters but there was no doubt how intense the inferno passion was between them.

I LOVED both of the main characters so much. You could really tell that Stacey had so much fun writing this book. Oliver was one of the most alpha, dominant, PERFECT heroes I've ever read about. One of the most masculine characters I've ever had the insane pleasure of devouring. And Shannon was SO, SO, SO relatable. I LOVED that about her SO MUCH. It was impossibly easy to slip into her shoes.

All I can say is that I wish more than anything I could convey how this book wreaked havoc on my emotions, kept me on the very edge of my seat, how I laughed and cried and swooned with all the characters, and how this is truly one of the BEST books I've ever read. Period. I just want to spill my guts out on this review so that EVERYONE reads this amazing book, because, honestly it is THAT good.

Do yourself a favor and read this amazing, phenomenal, all-consuming, bewitching, awesome book!

Your Kindle will thank me for it later.

Overall, I found this to be a quick but good read. Football is my favorite sport of all time so it is a no brainer for me to grab, especially since the cover of the book is pretty darn hot!

Loved Shannon and Oliver’s story, which is told in dual POV (again, another fav!) Lots of push and pull from both characters, who are trying to feel each other out – their wants/needs/desires, etc. They both must work for what they want in this relationship. Takes Shannon a bit longer that it does Oliver though. Shannon’s brother Beau has launched into protective mode over this relationship – so he is kind of a thorn in the side.

Not that I do not enjoy reading about the smexy scenes, just wish there was a bit less of those scenes…maybe a fade to black occasionally. Would have loved a little more “story” to go along with those scenes.

Dirty Player is the first book in the Rough Riders Series and is Oliver Powell and Shannon Hale’s story. This is a football sports romance. I usually try to stay away from sports romances because I really am not into sports. So, I am usually pleasantly surprised there is very little sports written about in sports romances. It just happens that the characters are in one sport or another. And, the book is more about the romance than the sport.

Wow! Oliver isn’t a sweet talker. He is one dirty talker. He pretty much tells it like it is and if you don’t like it he doesn’t care! He doesn’t do romance. Not since he was jilted and taken for a ride. His ex got half his wealth when she left him.

Shannon helped raise her younger brother and now that Beaux has made it big he is helping his sister. I loved seeing that they have a great brother/sister relationship.

Beaux has been traded to the Raleigh Rough Riders and Shannon is so happy to see her brother doing well. She is his biggest fan. Shannon meets Oliver and of course Oliver is a dirty talker but, Shannon ends up liking this dirty talking alpha male.

I really enjoyed reading Dirty Player and I am looking forward to starting Filthy Player and it is Beaux’s turn for a story. 4.5 stars for Dirty Player.

First book I’ve read by Stacey Lynn. Good story and characters.
Did feel that some of the sex scenes might have been used as filler when storyline slowed down.
As in so many books lately the ending seems rushed with everything working out for main characters suddenly in just a few pages to end book.
Will definitely read more by this author!

Oliver and Shannon are immediately drawn to one another upon first meeting! But he’s rude to her thinking she’s just another jersey chaser! Newsflash! She’s the older sister of the new quarterback of the Raleigh Roughriders! Yep, the guy he has to work with closely since he’s a wide receiver! And he just insulted his sister doing what he does best: being rude and obnoxious! But the attraction remains and now he knows she’s not after him for notoriety or his money!
But both have previous relationships that have left them wary!
Lots of hot guys in tight football pants, excitement, football and plenty of steam all wrapped up in a great story!

Ooh I nearly missed out on this book, only noticing it when I left a review for His to Seduce a few days ago. I had no idea Stacey Lynn had written a sports genre novel so I was eager to download it.
Dirty Player holds your attention from the very begining. Shannon and Beaux are sister and brother, their love and support for each other is undeniable.
Shannon has no reason to hang around with her cheating boyfriend so she decides to move away and join Beaux and this is where the story really begins.
Shannon has sacrificed a lot but wouldn't change a thing it's helped get Beaux to where he is now and he knows it.. it's beautiful to witness.
There's always one that is cocky and full of himself and Oliver Powel is it and we see him at his finest when he tries to introduce himself to Shannon. Oliver has no clue she is Beaux's sister, it's a brilliant moment and as you wait for that bit if information to be revealed only to realise it isn't...well you love it already and can't wait for that all important moment to happen!
This is a really great story with lots of endearing and sexy scenes between Shannon and Oliver, their month soon turned into so much more and we were now witnessing a much improved Oliver Powel.
Everything seemed to be going well not only their relationship but Shannon's jewellery business was taking off too and that is something Shannon definatly deserved, so it was happy times all round however a certain situation changed everything.
I have to say they way Oliver reacted and treated Shannon over his fathers heart attack was awful, talk about cutting and hurtful words, he practically blamed her, he'd put that pressure on her, as if she hadn't cared. It was totally out of order especially as she had lost her own mother. It was definitely a moment that made you angry and disappointed with Oliver and a little emotional too,..when he told Shannon to get out.. oh dear I don't think I could have forgiven so easily.
Things went from bad to worse for a while especially after that confrontation outside Olivers hotel room, let's face it Shannon had been there before... she wasn't about to go there again.
As Shannon prepares for the worst you can't help wonder how it got to this, all it needs is the Ex to show up... that's exactly what happens.
Thankfully it's at this moment Oliver shows up too, it's what we've been waiting for!
The epilogue is brilliant with another beautiful touching moment to end on.!
I wish Beaux could have a story too ?

I haven't read any Stacey Lynn books yetwhile event if some of its titles were published in France (The saga The Affair for example with Milady). I had a great time with Oliver Powell who in some ways reminded me of Brody from The Player by Vi Keeland. We quickly are attached to the characters and we can read a sexy romance.

I loved discovering the character of Shannon Hale because she is simply adorable. I melt when discovering his family's story and her special relationship with her brother Fine. This young woman , 28 years old, has no default according to me. She dedicated her life to the career of her brother and her commitment, dedication and brotherly love is just sublime. Shannon is the kind of character that puts the happiness of others before her own. She has no anger, no bitterness in her but simply pride and admiration. Knowing the family context, we can only bow to her because she assumed brilliantly a very important role. Shannon is very touching on many aspects and I really enjoyed her friendship (even if it is long distance) with Melissa. We feel that she is there to support and help her to face the infamous Patrick. I will not say more about it but let's just say he is so annoying.

Shannon is going to build a new life around the world she perfectly knows and that she loves : American football. Following the career of her brother, she knows all the codes and she will not be easily impressed. So we discover this world full of oversized ego and testosterone with Beaux but especially Oliver Powell . Shannon is also an incomparable artist and Stacey Lynn manages to make us discover the extent of her talent through her jewelry. It's very touching how Beaux gives her a boost and seeing their relationship is so special . But Shannon is primarily a woman who has desires and wants and when she meets Oliver Powell, one can say that the organized world will be shaken. Will she succumb to his charm ? Will she manage to find the man he really is and not only a playboy?

And yes Oliver Powell exudes an undeniable sex appeal and we fond it hard not to succumb to his charm. As I said, I had the impression he was like Brody of The Player since all this arrogance, this crude language is only a curtain to conceal his true Nature. Reading the novel, we discover him in a different way and we understand why he has such an attitude and why he decided to pretend to be the archetypal playboy. So I laughed a lot with Oliver because at first, he really plays the seducer and some misunderstanding between Shannon, Beaux and him offers us a really funny scene. But Oliver is not just a sexy body, who triggers orgasms and throughout our reading we truly fall under his spell. We get to know his reactions and appreciate it for what it is. It is on this last point that Shannon is different from other girls who shared his bed because she wants to know the "man" and not the football player. She is not merely interested in a body, she also wants a spirit.

With Shannon, there will be many firsts that are touching . While on the field, he has absolute confidence and fluency in his game, Oliver will see that he is not as perfect as he thinks he is and Shannon will disturb his habits and push him off his limits. What is lovely is that he's fallible, he will commit mistakes but it will enable the story to be creditable and even more lovely. What Oliver really wants? Does his love story with Shannon will be doomed to failure? Will His past lovers affect a possible happiness?

To conclude, I had a great time reading Dirty Player .It is one of those books you can't stop reading once you started. We quickly plunge into the heart of the story and we are strongly committed to all the characters. Stacey Lynn offers us a sporty and sexy romance.
