Disintegration & Other Stories: By Paula Acton Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 19 ratings

A series of short stories about when the fairy tale ends and everything falls apart. Love, death and revenge all feature in these tales where not everything is as it seems. The phrase till death do us part takes on a different meaning in both Disintegration and Empty, while Table For One and Deuce examine the more humorous side of betrayal.

Born in Leeds, currently living in Huddersfield, Paula Acton decided, when she turned forty, to stop dreaming about writing and do it. Her tagline ‘Where Love Lives & Darkness Dwells’ sums up her writing. While she enjoys experimenting with genre, each story is created in the grey areas where there is no black and white, no definitive good and evil.

In her home life she divides her time between children, grandchildren and pets. Her hobbies include reading, making a mess with resin, and going to visit the horse she recently rehomed to a riding school.

If she ever wins the lottery, she will buy a farm and use it to rescue old horses to give them a loving home for their final years. It will also double as a writing retreat for her friends in the Indie Author community.

A selection of short stories based around divorce/separation and the reasons behind it. Even though each tale is short in length, they all have enough in them to make you invested in the tale.
    I thoroughly enjoyed them.

This was my first read by this author so I went in with no expectations. The collection of stories are all about relationships that have ended badly, when the love just..dies.

As they were short stories there wasn't really any background for them, but some of them felt like they could be connected to each other. They were well written but I do wish some had been a little longer as it felt like there was something missing from a couple of them as they were a bit abrupt.

We get an insight into the darker side of when a relationship ends, either suddenly or the planning that has gone into it from one partner. There was a good mixture of death mixed in with the humorous side.

I would definitely read more by this author.

There are some really good short stories in this book, some of them I would like to be made into longer stories as I felt they had more to give but all in all they were good but sometimes dark reads.

Great short stories book, I liked that they were all based after the fairytale had ended. Revenge and indifference at its best.

I decided to buy this on paperback as I like them and it’s so cheap.
The stories are well written and dark but well thought out with regard to being the injured party for revenge and retribution. Already bought Paula’s ghost stories off the back of this
