Don't Date A DILF (Rules We Break in Granville Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,294 ratings

I have one rule to live by: Don't Date a DILF.

I've seen the consequences of blurring the boundaries between teaching life and dating life, and I'm not about to take that kind of risk.

But I didn't count on Hunter Rhodes walking into my school. Never expected that the broad-shouldered, stubble-jawed, absolute glory of a man would be such a sweet and caring father. Or that as a seemingly straight man, he might decide he wants me.

If my Nana has her way...I'll be in love with someone by the end of the school year, but there's only one man who tempts me.

With her matchmaking in overdrive and half the single women in Granville setting their sights on Hunter, faking a relationship could give us both a reprieve, but at what cost?

It might be fun and games for Hunter, but separating pretend feelings from real won't be so simple for me. And then there's that rule...

Can I date a DILF without disaster--or will all my fears come true?

Don't Date a DILF is Book 1 of Rules We Break, a spin-off series from Games We Play, set in the small, quirky town of Granville, where nosy residents meddle in one another's lives, great friendships are made, and silly innuendos are a way of life.

We're in Granville again with a short book series, and this one centers on a teacher and a divorced dad. The angst is found in both men wanting others to stop setting them up, and the divorced dad surprises many with his outward relationship with another man, setup to be fake and divert matchmaking by others in this very quirky town.

Of course, it becomes real even after many challenges, including a situation with a teacher having lost her job because of a relationship with a child's parent in the school system he used to work with.

This is a great story and well done by DJ Jamison in carrying forth this town's previous matchmaking, and the side stories that deal with that. The characters are well developed and plentiful (a reference list of all of them might have been helpful).

It was a moist eye ending, and this HEA is assured.

Summary: Clark has one rule—don’t date the parent of a student. Unfortunately, the father of the newest student in his after school program is a DILF, and the man of Clark’s dreams. Hunter is struggling to adjust to being a single father, so when Clark not only seems able to help his son, but offers him friendship and support too, Hunter can’t help befriending Clark. And when it turns out they are both sick of the meddling grannies and mothers constantly trying to set them up, they decide that fake dating is a good way to shut everyone up and get them to back off.

“Hunter pulled me close, catching me by surprise, and murmured into my ear, “If Nana’s happy, your life is easier. Now give me one of those cute blushes, angel. We’ve got an audience.” The whisper of his breath over my ear sent a shiver through me and my face heated as if he could command my body’s nervous system. “Angel?” I murmured. “I thought it fit. Do you not like it?” “No, I…” My brain was too fuzzy to figure out likes or dislikes.”

“With arms linked, they strolled off as if they weren’t a couple of meddling meddlers who liked to meddle.”

‘My heart raced at the intensity in his eyes as he said, “Clark Fletcher, maybe you haven’t been paying attention. I f***ing love you.”’

Review: This is a sweet, low angst, steamy, bi-awakening, single father/teacher mm romance. Hunter’s growing attraction to Clark is slow and sweet, but once Hunter has awakened to the reality of his feelings, he’s all in. Clark, who has had a crush from a distance for a long time, has trouble believing that his dream is becoming a reality. Both men struggle with feeling that they deserve the happiness they are feeling with the other, but they are each there to reassure the other.

Toby is a great kid character. He’s ten, and he really feels like a ten-year-old. He also has an arc, and when he has his realization at the end, it feels earned and realistic. It also made me teary-eyed.

Jamison has created a really fun community in her Granville books. I read the Games We Play series, and it was a lot of fun to see returning characters—both the pervious MCs as well as the returning side characters. I’m looking forward to the next Rules We Break book.

Don’t Date a DILF by DJ Jamison is a definite romp, and plenty of rom-com fun, when Hunter returns to his hometown with his angry ten-year old and needs the help of Clark, the teacher responsible for an after-school club, to help get Toby back on track. But who gets helped? Toby, who just wants life to go back to normal? Clark, who has rules to keep himself safe? Hunter, who always thought he was straight? Grab Don’t Date a DILF and find out, but only when you have a few hours because this is a swoony, sexy, funny page-turner of a romance.

I just love reading this author's books. They are always entertaining, have a great storyline, wonderful characters and background characters. I love that we are seeing beloved characters from other series.

In this case there is Hunter and Clark and an adorable kid named Toby. Both are back in town after having troubled lived elsewhere, trying to get back on track, never knowing how their lives are going to intertwine.

Hunter always thought he was straight until he met Clark. For reasons unknown to him the whole game changed. Starting as friends, feelings just grew and their life was never the same.

I'm so happy to be back in Granville again! This new series is a spin off from the Games We Play series and set in the same town. It was so great to be back with some familiar folks and that wonderfully, quirky town! The author did a great job bringing new readers into the fold if you haven't read the previous series. This is Hunter and Clark's story and I really enjoyed it. Clark was amazing. Such a kind, caring, loving man that was just what Hunter and Toby needed. This was a slow burn, with Hunter recently divorced, having sole custody of his 10 year old son, and previously identifying as straight. I loved that their attraction just unfolded so naturally. Hunter was drawn to Clark's personality, he fell for his kind heart and caring ways, and slowly realized he was physically attracted to Clark as well. Once Hunter realized his feelings, he went all in and got to experience all his firsts with a man with Clark. Those scenes were smoking hot! They couldn't get enough of each other. I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve and them falling in love. There was a bit of drama and uncertainty with the ex-wife, but overall this was a low angst, feel good story filled with meddling townspeople, great friends, and lots of love that made me smile. Eager for book 2!

The book ends well, as anticipated, and has a surprise at the end to provide a push into the next book.

It was such a joy to read the newest book by DJ Jamison. Don’t Date a Dilf continues the story of Granville town this time with Hunter, Kevin‘s brother who met briefly in seven minutes in Kevin and Clark a new teacher of the last couple years who is besties with August who we met with Joe. The two of them decided to do the fake, romantic trope to help each other not get set up on a bunch of dates, however neither one of them so they were truly fall for each other. Clark was always attracted to Hunter, and Hunter was discovering he is pansexual vs bi. I do like that the story wasn’t a traditional gay for you. They of course had struggles having to navigate not only the Granville towns grannies, but Hunter‘s ex-wife showing up a child and scandal with the school board. Cannot wait for the next book. Don’t date and ask where we find out about Tristan’s ex.

Cute easy to read love story between three people, a teacher, Parent and his son.

I say three people, as both the dad and teacher ensure the son is happy and included.

I also loved the side characters, the grannie collective, ex-wife and the friend Masie, plus all the Ho's and Bro's.

It is well-written and a gentle, fun read.

I think that we sometimes forget that our mums and family only want what’s best for us. This book goes the extra length to do that. Yes it is over the top with the old peeps, but I have met a few that are like this in Australia!
Both the main characters, Clarke the teacher and Hunter the (dilf )and the son Toby are well rounded characters, the learning process and the heat grows with the book.
The angst is low and well handled just a real smooshy book.
