Down the Kaleidoscope: a memoir Paperback – March 8, 2024
Purchase options and add-ons
Diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer, Disa escapes into fantastical worlds where monkeys talk, antique Colts never run out of bullets, and the great mother crone casts spells, weaving healing songs into the night’s cool breath. It’s a good world, a world she never wants to leave.
Part fairy tale, part horror story, the supernatural is ever-present on Disa’s voyage through uncharted waters; a journey this island girl seemed destined to take as a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation. In a voice uniquely her own, Disa bravely shares her deeply personal experiences battling cancer, slaying the demons this dreadful disease unearths, and serendipitous encounters with angelic warriors sent to help.

About the author

Disa Dawn writes hopepunk and cozy supernatural adventures featuring daring heroines, mystical capers, and sweet romance. She’s known for her slick, snappy prose, diverse worlds, quirky plots, and happily ever afters. She’s the author of the Tennessee England series and the genre-bending saga The Seekin Trilogy.
Studying poetics and creative writing at Naropa University inspired Disa to write books she wanted to read— zany stories starring fierce heroines who practice kindness even while battling the big bad.
A native of Guam and the Mariana Islands, Disa now lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family, a dog, and a skeleton named Charlie.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI just finished reading this memoir, and I’m moved by Disa’s journey through stage two breast cancer. She writes in a way that took me right along with her during what may have been the most trying time in her life. She was so courageous to share her feelings, fears, and victories along the way. Even though the topic is serious, she brings hope and positivity into every chapter, especially with Monkey! Her strength and determination are truly inspiring. This book is a must-read for anyone going through a tough time or looking for a story of courage. Highly recommend!

I love the way the author allowed her deepest thoughts to be open to the world during the most difficult time in her life. This book is vulnerable and inspiring with her life story and poetry.
