Dowser Series: Box Set 1 Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,245 ratings

Three bestselling urban fantasies from award-winning author Meghan Ciana Doidge. Dowser 1, 2, and 3 complete the first trilogy of the Dowser Series. Fortunately, the magic and mayhem continues in Dowser 4, 5, and 6.

The customer looked familiar, like maybe he’d been in the bakery a few times before. The vampire, however, was new. – Dowser 1

Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1)

If you’d asked me a week ago, I would have told you that the best cupcakes were dark chocolate with chocolate cream cheese icing, that dancing in a crowd of magic wielders — the Adept — was better than sex, and that my life was peaceful and uneventful. Just the way I liked it. That’s what twenty-three years in the magical backwater of Vancouver will get you — a completely skewed sense of reality. Because when the dead werewolves started showing up, it all unraveled … except for the cupcake part. That’s a universal truth.

Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic (Dowser 2)

Three months ago, I lost my foster sister, Sienna, to the darkness. As in blood magic and chaos and general mayhem. No one saw it until it was too late, but I should have. Now, I have a wounded heart and soul that I can’t even reveal to anyone around me, because I’m supposed to hate Sienna with the fiery passion of the justified. And I do. I just wish I didn’t feel so lost without her, so unsure of the path I thought I had carved for myself, and so outclassed by the powerful Adepts constantly by my side these days. I’m not even sure if they’re with me for my own protection or because my shiny new powers are rare and valuable. Assuming I ever figure out who or what I am, and how my magic actually works.

Even chocolate can’t save the day every time … just most of the time. At least I’ve got that going for me.

Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic (Dowser 3)

I hadn’t set foot in the human world for more than a few hours in over three and a half months. Sure, I was stronger and faster than I’d ever been before, and I had a shiny new sword, but I was seriously chocolate deprived. I don’t recommend quitting cold turkey. And the new sword was a problem — to my mind, anyway. It represented all the expectations of a powerful father and a new otherworldly life. A life that wasn’t the one I’d worked so hard to build. It also represented the responsibility I had to bring my foster sister Sienna to … what? Justice? I didn’t know if that was even possible. What I did know was that Sienna wouldn’t stop, and that I couldn’t just leave everything up to fate and destiny … or maybe I was. Maybe I was doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing. If you believed in that sort of thing.

I just hoped that before the chaos and mayhem renewed, I’d manage to get my hands on some chocolate. It didn’t even have to be single-origin Madagascar. I was utterly prepared to lower my standards.

These campy characters was well developed. The plotlines are well timed. There is a bit of titillating romance, but it is fairly well done, neither too steamy, nor overly detailed and pornographic.

These are stories that have had staying power for me. I am anxious to binge read all of Meghan's work.

Halfway through the first book, I found myself realizing that I was definitely going to need to buy more of these -- and then remembered, with considerable delight, that the book had come in a three-pack. Love the heroine, love the main characters, love the setting, and the action just roars along. I also like the author's take on the various forms of magic in her world -- just enough difference to be refreshing.

When I finished the three-pack, I came back for more. I even followed the author's direction and bought the first two of the Oracle series. Having read seven of these novels in a row, I can report that they remain extremely interesting, and I have not gotten tired of either protagonist. The Dowser series is more fun to read, because the Dowser has had a happier life and an easier relationship with herself. But the whole work, taken together, is remarkable -- and a very fun read, too.

The one complaint I have is that I could use a little more "quiet time" -- the regular lives of the two protagonists are interesting, and I would've liked a little more lull in the action to enjoy them. But if you're not binge-reading the whole series, as I am willy-nilly doing, that might be less of an issue.

If you read for pleasure but require quality, you'll like these books!

First time reading anything by this author and was pleasantly surprised to enjoy the first three of an apparently lengthy series. If you enjoy the world of witches, vampires, werewolves and all sorts of magical beings, then this book is for you. There were moments that seemed to drag but were overtaken by a fast paced series of events. Some laugh out loud moments, some steamy sexy moments, lots of magic...and lots of cupcakes and chocolate...worth the read.

I am loving this series, and have read through, and bought of course, every book available in the Adept universe. I am about to finish the 2nd to last book yet available, and I'm kind of dragging my feet about finishing it, because then I'll know I only have one left. The author is very skilled and consistent. I enjoy the intrigue she engenders and her ability to keep the tension, interest, character development etc, flowing through 14 plus books.

I love this series! I love being in the character’s head and experiencing all her crazy, chocolate-coated emotions. This character has spunk and drive and ad libs like there’s no tomorrow. Kett is absolutely my most favorite character. I love the spice and interaction between Desmond and Jade and Kett and Jade. I wanted more of the saucy love stuff, but the story wasn’t about that. The story focused on Jade’s quest to stop her sister, but everything along the way was a blast.

Reader Rated for ages 17+ for plenty of sensuality; also contains moderate violence and mild language.

Well I didn't expect to enjoy these books so much, I even laughed out loud and shed tears! What an enjoyable romp, thought I must admit I could have done with more wolflie/cat sex romp and a little less black magic carnage but heh! Different genre, I guess. Having lived in Vancouver for several decades it was a treat to have my beautiful city playing herself in the books. Thank you Ms. Doidge!
