Move over, Knives Out. An ex-Bond with a Beauregard accent can't compete with Vicki Dean: reclusive mystery writer, town hair stylist, and weekend drag queen. She eats, huntie, and we live.

Shane Morton's first in a series of stiletto-sharp mysteries has great characters, snarky dialogue, a hunky sheriff, and a clever string of clues as Vicki, known in town as hair stylist Victor, puts her secret identity at risk. But what's a queen to do when someone is trying to frame you for murder?

Now that Rupaul's Drag Race franchise has opened drag culture to the world, it's fantastic to see how Morton portrays the attitudes, shade, and courage in that world.

Very low spice, a nicely extended slow burn, and a gentle happy ending--what more can you want? Well, I want Ms. Vicki to have her Jessica Fletcher moment. Hey Ru and WOW, here's a show worth clearing the runway.

Fun cozy mystery surrounding a small town, a hairdresser/author/drag queen. The mayor being murdered puts Vicki in the middle of an investigation and someone is trying to frame her but do they know who she is? The new sheriff is hot and there’s instant attraction for Vic and Harper. Cory is great and the townspeople couldn’t be more nosy and gossipy. Enjoyed the cameo by Ursula. Looking forward to more of the series.

Honey. I tingled all the way down to the tips of my Jimmy Choos to find we had our own drag detective. A change from Regency dukes/valets or book sellers/ex cops. That was the good news...and then I read Men,MURDER&MAKEUP. Can you handle the T? Here's the T. It just ain't all that interestin. Who killed the town mayor? Victor, who works in the local gay bar is on the case. His alter ego is Ravenne, the bars drag enteretainer but, wait, he's also - with a change of g outfits and wigs - a well known author by the name of Vicki Dean (are you with me. gurl?) and that identity is secret. To keep the plot moving, into town rambles Sheriff Hottie flashing his colorful tattoos and solid pecs. A professed bisexual who immediately falls hard for Victor, Ravenne and Vicki . Are you still with me, Hon? In all the swooning over Hottie (or in spite of it) the plot gets solved.
So, that was that.. and then I realized this was part of a series and not a stand alone. Now, Dear, no one is fairer than Ms. Thing here, so I sashayed in with a second chance. DIVA,DEATH&DRAG. The pliot concerns a dragdrag contest and introduces yet another character - Ursula Moolay - who brings energy to the motley crew. The scenes with the queens rehearsing, making up and performing are as good as a session on RuPaul. Ms, Shane, in my opinion, could have eliminated the character of Vicki Dean (too much extra hairspray and slap for too little return). Didn't mean to be so shady but no book three in my future. THIS IS WHERE I GET OFF!

If you love Jessica Fletcher, you will love Vicki Dean. She is a best selling author of mysteries. And she herself is a mysterious recluse. Her secret? She is really Victor. Victor also happens to be a successful drag queen. But the murder of the town's mayor thrusts him/ her into the limelight, and into the arms of Harper, the hunky new sheriff. Together Vic & Harper manage to solve the murder all while falling in love. This is a good, old- fashioned murder mystery with a gay twist. Put on your detective hat & heels and see if you can outsleuth Vic & Harper. You will love this book!

Men, Murder and Makeup is such a fun, dramatic mystery. Vic, who lives in the town of Maple Grove, is a drag queen, who is also Vicki Dean, a famous mystery writer. Vic has kept the fact that he is Vicki Dean a secret from everyone in town. When the mayor is murdered, Vic becomes wrapped up in the mystery when it appears someone wants to make it look like Vicki Dean is involved. With his best friend Cory, Vic tries to get to the bottom of what is going on, while working with and being attracted to the town sheriff. Men, Murder and and Makeup is one of my favorite books by Shane Morton. I really enjoyed the characters, and seeing Vic work to get to bottom of it.

I loved this entire series. It's well constructed and each mystery is so interesting that it's hard to put down. I loved how there is 3 main characters, but not. I also signed up for a,6th book, but it disappeared. I hope it comes back soon. You will not be disappointed to add this series to your must read pile. There is a secondary character book too!

I have read several of the books in the series and gave enjoyed each and laughed myself silly while doing so. However, I have just a wee bit of hopefully constructive criticism with the series - an inconsistency with names i.e. is Henry Henry or Hank? In Side Sleuths with Cory and Jensen, the first mention of Vicki Dean her name is Veronica, not Vicki - which is it? Otherwise, all is hilariously good.

    An excellent, enjoyable resd!

Read a good murder mystery after a long time. The story is intriguing and keeps you glued. The narrative is simple and so unlike the gruesome gore and despair, one finds in mystery/thriller novels.
