    Monty is such a great character. I love how he is an utter rake and has every intention to continue his path of debauchery until Hattie has her way. These two are a wonderful pair and have so many moments of pain, passion, and humor. I adore Monty’s silly quips and “curses.” They show up out of nowhere and make me laugh.

    This book is another reformed rake story that touches on hard subjects that can create true trauma for people, but Ms Scott does a great job of showing how love , compassion, loyalty, and support can help others on the path of healing. Poor Monty had true trauma. It was lovely to see Hattie do her best to be kind and courageous when it would have been easy to dismiss and judge.

    I can’t wait for the next book!

    It's been a long time since I've dug into a historical romance but this was a nice refresher. Duke of Montrose is determined to wed his best friend's sister and notorious wallflower Hattie. Equal parts guilt and love from afar, she doesn't make it easy for him and the chase is part of the fun.
    Once the steam gets going it's a lot but it's written well and very steamy. I loved that this story tackled some tough issues that we don't think about in those times but the author did it superbly and Hattie's response was perfect for the strong heroine she is. I had a fun time with this story and might dig into the rest of the series.

    I very much enjoyed the love story between Monty and Hattie!

    I loved how Hattie loves Monty with compassion, with all his sins.

    I loved how she never abandoned him, how she was at his side to help him win against his demons.

    I really liked how the author showed the reality of a drug user, the difficulties and the struggles to stop the use of drugs.

    Scarlett pictured why some people starts using, how they hide it from their love ones, how much compassion and help they need to stop the use.

    I loved how it was not a miracle how Monty stop using, that he struggled but was able to stop the used!

    The heroine is fantastic. Smart, witty, loyal, and not afraid to embrace her sensuality once she discovers it.

    The hero, on the other hand, is a hot mess. Something in his past haunts him, and he tries to drown himself in drugs and sex to forget. While I couldn’t help but like him - and he is swoon worthy - he doesn’t just hurt himself. He puts his whole family at risk with his behavior, especially if he dies. Then there is the fact that he risks catching the pox - he beds more women than he can remember - and fully expected to continue to do so after he married. It’s hard for me to respect that person, even after reformed, because he never acknowledges how THAT behavior could have had more negative consequences than scandal.

    Otherwise, this story is very compelling.

    Miss S Scott is one author I can always rely to deliver a good smashing story with a heavy lace of sensuality. This book however was an utter disappointment.

    The first 50% of the book was entirely dedicated to the pursuit or the courtship between the H and the h. Seriously? Its like a non story almost. There are quite large portions of light-hearted bantering and laugh out loud moments. However, it all got buried under repetitive narrative. It was unnecessary. It was tedious. It's not like you cannot remember what was written just a couple of pages back. Honestly, it was unbelievably boring. I wondered if I had the patience to finish this book at this stage.

    I blame my OCD for not resisting the urge to stop reading when I ought to. Punishment, I know. Anyway, marching on with renewed curiosity, I found the next half of the book, bar the last 20 pages, was more of the same repetitive narrative, except the H/h are now married. The same fears, inadequacies, perceived faults, low self-esteem, kept turning over and over in a repeated spin and rinse cycle. Even the sensual parts became tedious. It made me think the artistic muse fled from the author and it was just a matter of cut and paste to fill in pages.

    The great evil that the story alluded to, instead of approaching in crescendo, felt almost like fireworks that got wet and failed to spark. I don't want to discuss this topic further because it will give the story away. Suffice to say, it could have approached it in a different way that lent a more believable angle.

    Love wins. Love always finds a way. Love is the strongest force in the universe. Love, the same as Truth, can set you free if you only believe in its power of redemption in the purest sense. These are the themes running along these series of books.

    This book is a disappointing read for me. This is my opinion and shouldn't deter you from forming your own.

    I was so looking forward to Monty's story, but I was sadly disappointed by this story.

    This Sins of Scoundrels series became formulaic and repetitive after the first few books and then downright irritating page skippers by the last two. The passion scene's in the series are also "you've read one, you've read them all".
