- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2015Early Bird Special is a short story about a woman named Francie and her family spending Thanksgiving together. Francie is a woman I can relate to; not only is she super organized but she likes to get 8 solid hours of sleep plus an hour to get ready in the morning. At almost thirty-one, she's dedicated to the job that she loves as The Planning Princess (event planner) but she's so focused on her career that she has no long term relationships to speak of.
Like many Americans, her family's holiday tradition is to wait in line for the stores to open on Black Friday [or Thursday nowadays] and find good deals. I think its nice for families to have holiday traditions but it's always boggled my mind that Black Friday shopping is something people look forward to. It's so crazy to me that commercialized shopping has become what it has in the last few years, with stores opening earlier and earlier until they finally decided to just open the doors on Thanksgiving.
Early Bird Special is a cute holiday story, but I wish it was a bit longer... and I just found out that there will be a novel to follow, wahoo!!! I love Tracy Krimmer's writing.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2015This little novella is really more of a short story, clocking in at a scant 35 pages, but it is a sweet story with an adorable meet-cute that is sure to get readers in the holiday spirit. With a wonderful holiday setting, it evokes the madness of Black Friday and the emotions that tend to run high during family gatherings. Plus, it’s short enough to read while you’re stirring the gravy, so get your romance on and meet Shane and Francie this Thanksgiving.
I can’t really say too much more without giving away the entire thing, but just be assured that these characters are cute, and there’s a wonderful sense of family and love that runs through the narrative. It’s sentimental and fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2015I haven't read a book about Thanksgiving before so I thought I'd grab a copy of this when it was up for free to help me get even more into the mood (if possible) for the holidays. The premise sounded lovely and though I follow Tracy Krimmer on Facebook I've never read one of her books before so I thought it was time that I do. I liked this little short but I do wish it was a little longer to truly sink my toes into the story. I thought it was going to be a lot more romantic than it was, it was more about Francie realizing she needs to change a little in her love life or she'll be an old spinster. And less about having us fall in love with the characters getting together and wanting to ship them. In that aspect, I was a little bit disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2015The cover drew me in but the story wasn't very noteworthy.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2015A quick fun read by one of my favourite authors. Set during the black friday sales, will Francie find a bargain? Or maybe even love?
I was glad I was reading this in the comfort of my own home, and not battling those crazy crowds in an attempt to save a few dollars. I found Francie a likeable character and I love Tracy's writing style. Written in first person, I really felt like I was in the middle of everything.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2014The was a really cute, fun, and quick read...finished it during my 1/2 hour lunch break! I really like Francie, and Shane has all the potential to be a great book boyfriend! I hope Francie gets her own full-length novel one day, it would be fun to read all about her party-planning adventures!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2015This was a quick feel good holiday story! I love reading short stories and novellas at this time of year!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2015Tracy Krimmer and I were chatting one day and she said "I need an idea for my Thanksgiving short story." We thought for a few, we exchanged ideas...siblings bring a friend to Thanksgiving, eyes meet...nah...Oh! Black Friday! YES! And so was born Early Bird Special. Tracy took this idea and ran with it. Turned it into something much more adorable than I would have thought of myself! A very quick read that will definitely leave you wanting more!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars just so I can enjoy the experience
Francie A. Spiller, Princess Party Planner, doesn’t have time for a boyfriend; she is too busy being a career woman. Or is she? Always willing to go the extra mile for others, but are they taking advantage of her? The Thanksgiving Sale sparks it all.
As an Australian who has never left her country, I have never experienced these types of sales. I have only them through TV, movies and of course in my dreams. One day, I plan to be in America for Thanksgiving, just so I can enjoy the experience.
But alas! I digress!
This character was easy to relate to. I too have an affinity for a good day planner. In fact, I have an affinity for stationary. It’s a serious problem. I felt that Francie could be my best friend in another life time. If I wasn’t want to be a lawyer/stay t home mumma/professional bookworm, I would love to be an events planner!
The ending was perfect! I could relate all too well to finally working up the courage to ask the question. I am looking forward to reading more from Krimmer who has been on my wish list for quite a while now.
