Englishwoman in Scotland: A heart-warming and uplifting novel set in Scotland Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 86 ratings

The Englishwoman series. Modern day romances with an historical feel.
Talented artisan baker
Lady Titania (Tansy) Nettlebridge is betrothed to be married to Lord Brayely no less. She should be ecstatic. She should be delighted at such a match. She would be if she’d actually met him…

Viscount Hector Brayely, or Tor for short isn’t interested in women. He isn’t interested in men. As a renowned mycologist all he’s interested in is fungi, and one particular fungi at that. So when his mother arranges a bride he’s not really interested. He’s more interested in the new cook at the castle, Miss Tansy Smith…

Set in Oban and The Slate Islands Tansy quickly falls in love with the Inner Hebrides but she wouldn’t marry Tor if he was the last man on Belnahua… Belnahua is one of the State Islands of the Inner Hebrides. Deserted now it used to be a thriving community of workers and their families until WW1 when all the men left to fight and their families were evacuated to neighbouring islands.

I also loved this third book that I have read of Jenny O'Brien, but was so sorry about the lack of proofreading towards the end as there were several minor spelling mistakes.

Jenny O'Brien just gets better all the time! The love story of Lady Titania -Tansy- and Viscount Hector-Tor- Brayley set in the Inner Hebrides is so heart warming with loads of laughs. With cat and whisky included, which both I love... Jenny has done so much research, its amazing. I could not put the book down after I started, you want to know what happens next. Please Jenny carry on writing these!!!

So impressed with this writer. Each book going from strength to strength. She doesn't put a foot wrong with this story. Wonderful characters with whom you are invested from start to finish. Again, another strong female heroine. Oh and yes, a hero you can't help but fall in love with.

This is a great book to escape into with a delightful, gutsy heroine - Tansy - and a gorgeous hunk of a hero - Tor. Set mainly in Scotland with great descriptions of the area around Oban and a way of life remote to most of us, the story bubbled along at a great pace, keeping my attention until the last page. All the characters were so well described I could picture them all clearly in my mind. I look forward to reading more in the series.
