- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2021Jamie and Leo are so cute together! At first they are both insecure, but they fall in love instantly and find their places in each other's lives. It's the first gay relationship for Jamie, but he is so excited to get to know that part of himself.
If you have read Breathe by Sophia Soames, Jamie is the twin brother of Luke. The whole Waltersen family is back and they are still as chaotic and awesome as earlier! Sophia really knows how to write amazing families, who support all the people around them, not just the ones who are related by blood.
I read the book in one go, you don't want to put it away after you start!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2021The overly sweet instalove is not my thing, so that’s why I didn’t quite love this short story … but if that is your thing, definitely check this book out! But it was so fun to see Luke, Ryan and the whole family again. I would go mad with a house like that, but it’s fun to read about and Sophia is so great at writing families.
Also, I LOVE the cover art and follow the artist on Instagram. So talented!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2023This is a sweet companion novella to Breathe. We get to catch up with Luke's brother, Jamie. I enjoyed how things developed for him with Leo.
I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2021If an author is exceptionally skilled -- as Sophia Soames is -- you find yourself wondering what happened to the supporting people in a book. Exhale takes the reader back to Jamie Walters, first met in Breathe, whose life is falling apart. Grief, passion and hope intertwine to weave a beautiful story set in fascinating London. I never pass up one of Sophia's books!!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2024Very sweet short story about Jaime and finding his true love. I'm not a fan of instalove, but in this case it worked out really well. Great story.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2021Not going to lie, I was a little nervous going into Exhale. I love this author’s works because of her ability to weave emotional stories laden with tons of chemistry and I worried that wouldn’t be possible in a novella-length story. On top of that, I just finished and LOVED Breathe…so Exhale had a lot to live up to.
Exhale features the story of Jamie, the twin of Luke who is a main character in Breathe, who is desperate to define himself a bit more and find a new love. While technically this novella could work on its own, I don’t think a reader would be able to fully appreciate the Walters family without having read their development in Breathe. I also think having the backstory of Jamie, even as a secondary character in Breathe, allowed me to appreciate his relationship in Exhale without it feeling rushed.
Things do move rather quickly in Exhale, but I definitely didn’t feel shorted on the emotional development of Jamie or Leo. Overall, I enjoyed this short story. I liked how Jamie and Leo were so similar and the “baggage or needs” they found most worrisome about bringing to a relationship were readily accepted by the other. And of course, I loved getting to see the ever-expanding Walters family. If you read and enjoyed Breathe, I can’t imagine you wouldn’t enjoy spending time among these wonderful characters again.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2021Sophia Soames allows us to dip our toes back into her London Love universe in her novella, Exhale. Exhale introduces us to Jamie and Leo, two men desperate for a fairy tale romance in a world that tells them that happily ever after is for everyone else.
They meet up on Grindr and have an instantaneous connection, one that burns hot and bright. There is not a lot of tension between these two men, despite the stuff that they work up in their own heads. It is a cute and quick story about instalove and making your happily ever after.
There are a few things I would've liked to see more of: their relationship is a big one. I think I would've loved to see more of the growing pains that were referenced in the book, but unfortunately the novella format does not allow for that. I would've liked to get to know a little more about the characters as well, because Soames writes such amazing and beautiful characters that always leave me wanting to know more about them.
I loved seeing the rest of Jamie's siblings again. I loved seeing all of the beautiful and bright characters from Breathe and getting the quick update on Luke and Ryan from book one.
This book is very low angst and a lovely quick read. It can be read as a standalone, but I think you'll find a lot more enjoyment if you've read book one of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2021First, I am a huge Insta-Love fan; I just love it! This story is so sweet and romantic. Jamie and Leo are perfect together; the romance is a pleasure to watch as it develops. Jamie wants a love of his own, (don't we all?) someone to love him and heal his heart. He finds it in Leo. SS is a favorite of mine and she did not disappoint with this novella. Sweetness Overload! Reconnecting with the Walters family, especially Miss Olive, was an added bonus. This family is so good at welcoming others into their fold, despite all they have been through. Ready for the next book!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read
I have to be honest here, I liked the premise, I liked the two main characters, but what I didn't enjoy was the long, constant episodes of waffling, the thought process went on and on. I wanted to see their happy ever after, they struggled for it so much, but I HAD to skim along now and then. I found my answer, they found their destinies but it was a teensy bit of a battle, for all of us, to get there.
