Earn Your Extra Credit Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 9,187 ratings

From USA Today bestselling author of A NOT SO MEET CUTE comes a brand-new enemies to lovers romantic comedy about a desperate heroine who needs a fake fiancé stat! The only man at her disposal is the one man she can't fathom asking. Forced proximity, steamy tension, and hilarity.

"What do you mean you have a fake fiancé?"

Running into an old enemy can really do strange things to you. And when you find out said enemy is engaged to your father . . . well, let's just say the best of choices were not made.

It was supposed to be a vacation of a lifetime before the school year started back up again. My best friend was getting married and I had a free trip to Hawaii.

But that first night, I ran into not only my estranged dad, but his newly betrothed as well. Immediately my defenses were raised and before I knew it, I was telling them all about my beautifully handsome and extremely muscular fiancé who was on vacation with me.

Which meant, I needed a man and quick. Unfortunately, Hawaii is a very small group of islands and my options of single men were limited. I was left with one choice, Brock "Romeo" Romero.

He's handsome.
He's muscular.
And he's single.

He checked all the boxes. So what's the problem? Unfortunately, we completely and utterly despise each other.

Earn Your Extra Credit is my first read from this author, and I Am Obsessed!! I was thrilled to be offered an early audio listener copy, and I jumped on the chance! Stella and Brock ‘Romeo’ Romero have been friends for awhile as well as coworkers. However, there's been some tension in their relationship to which Stella is clueless as to the reasons. You see, Romeo is crazy about Stella but she has no clue. Now they're on vacation together for their friends' destination wedding. When Stella runs into her high school nemesis, she announces her fake engagement with the not-so-thrilled Romeo. When I'm laughing out-loud in the first few chapters, I know I'm in for a fun ride. Cue the banter, pranks, & silly antics! Romeo was broody and grumpy which made him all the more endearing and loveable. The poor boy knew he was in for heartbreak with every (fake) touch and sweet compliment, but he couldn't leave his girl hanging. This story was light and fun at times, but also had some emotional and heavier moments. I absolutely loved Meghan Quinn’s writing, this super-fun group of characters, and all her comedic elements were spot on! I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Romeo, former Bobbie player turned PE teacher, is in looooove with a girl who has no flippin clue. She's in love too but again, no clue, until they're both in Maui for Arlo & Greer's wedding and she runs into her dad and his - gasp - new fiance who happens to be Stella's high school bully. Yes, allllll the drama. They end up in a fake engagement so Stella can save face with the bully, which mixes poor Romeo all up and Stella STILL doesn't get her act together. When they go home, she screws up even more and then thank the heavens, the Ladies in Heat Book Club finally force her to snap out of her dumb.

I love Meghan Quinn’s books! I found her in 2020, and she was my escape. I ran so many of her books and loved almost every single one. She has a way of making the steamiest romances while keeping me laughing out loud at least a handful of times during each story. This book was no exception!

I really loved the beginning of this book. Stella and Romeo are in Hawaii for Greer and Arlo’s wedding from See Me After Class. It was great to see the gang back together, and I really enjoyed being back in their world. Stella and Cora cracked me up from the very first night. Stella and Romeo started the book off on a rough note which I actually liked that added hate-to-love aspect. Poor Romeo, though! I really felt for him in that situation. I would have been mortified if I were in his shoes.

Brock Romero is one of my favorite hero’s I have read in such a long time. He was stand out! He was really well-spoken, he was so swoony, and I loved how he interacted with his friends and Stella. Reading about Stella from his perspective was probably my favorite part of the book! He was just an awesome guy, and I am so glad we got to read his story.

I also really loved the setting. I always like books that take place on a vacation because it makes me feel like I am right there with the characters. Hawaii was incredible, and I loved the resort atmosphere. I have never stayed at a resort like they had in the book, but it was definitely great to read about. I liked the excursions and the days spent around the pool. Y’all. There is a pool scene. Read it and thank me later!!

I really enjoyed most of the story, but that said, there were also aspects I didn’t like. Stella was EXTREMELY immature. At first, I could brush it off because it was moving the plot along, but it got old quick. It is eventually addressed, and Stella does grow throughout the second half of the book. Still, overall, I really didn’t enjoy how she acted throughout the large majority of the book. I really wanted to like her; I just couldn’t bring myself to really buy into her perspectives.

Stella and Romeo were also some of the worst communicators I have ever read in a romance. This was basically one big miscommunication from start to end. I don’t love to read about miscommunication, so they didn’t add anything to the story for me.

I also think, while there are some books I wish would never end, this was not one of those. It was a LONG book. The portion of the book set in Hawaii could have almost been its whole book. There were about 100 pages where I was tempted to just skim because I wasn’t invested in Stella’s character and really just wanted to get to the resolution with Romeo.

Overall, I still enjoyed the book. I love Brock, and he really made this book for me. It was good to be back with this group, and the vacation setting was so fun to read. If you can push through some immature moves on Stella’s part, this is still a pretty good book. While it’s not one of my favorites that Meghan has written, I’m still glad I read it, if only to get more of Brock Romero…(major heart eyes).

If you’re looking for a good vacation read with a steamy fake fiance, a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers storyline, and another chance to be in this amazing world of characters Meghan has created, definitely give it a read.

The first draft of this review included a lot of shouty CAPS, frustrated ramblings, and general non-sensical gripes about the book. Because this couple is endlessly frustrating. BUT… there’s also a whole lot of awesome. I loved the first 40% very, very much. Like, HOLY CHEMISTRY, wow that’s some serious sexual tension much. If you’ve read See Me After Class, then you might have an idea of what you’re getting yourself into. This series seems to be pushing the limits on how much sexual tension there can be before it SNAPS, and that’s absolutely one of the best parts of this book. The banter, the chemistry, the humor, and the playfulness – they make the first half something really special. The miscommunication? Is what makes this such a frustrating read.

The story follows Brock “Romeo” and Stella, two teachers who have become close friends while working together. Brock has been crushing on Stella for longer than he cares to admit, but she seems completely oblivious to his feelings… not that he’s ever revealed them to her. The one time Brock tried to get out of the friend zone, their “date” went off the rails, and now he does everything he can to avoid Stella. But when they’re forced to spend time together at mutual friends’ destination wedding, that becomes impossible. And when Stella ropes Brock into pretending to be her fiancé, the lines between friends and lovers get crossed. But does that mean the same thing to Stella as it does to Brock?

I loved Brock. Call him Romeo if you want; the name suits him in that he is completely devoted to the one girl who is sure to bring him nothing but trouble. He was an unexpected sweet, swoony surprise, with an alpha side that came out at just the right moments. WOW, did that alpha side come out sometimes. At other times, Brock’s frustration was palpable, and it bled off the page so much that it transferred to me. He could’ve saved himself a lot of trouble by having a simple conversation, but I still loved the guy. Stella… I started out liking Stella, but she’s what threatened to tank this love story for me. Neither Brock nor Stella is any good at communicating, and while that’s acknowledged in the book, it was difficult to handle at times. Based on the first half of the book, I really thought this was going to be an easy 5-star rating for me, but that just wasn’t the case. I still liked it – and I loved a lot of it – but… I also kinda wanted to shake some sense into these two. If you’re in the mood for a tense, STEAMY read that will put you through every emotion, then this is still a solid story. I received an early copy (then purchased it for my collection) and am voluntarily leaving a review of this steamy rom com.

I have been waiting for these two for AGES! I loved Brock and Stella in the first book, and was curious how their relationship was going to go. I loved to see them both growing up and getting in touch with their deepest issues and fears. And, ohhhh, THE GRAND GESTURE! What a freaking beautiful scene! Miss Meghan Quinn, you did it again!
And now I’m ready for my sweet, lovely Cora and Mr Grayson...

There’s something so familiar and different about this book. I’ve read a lot of Meghan’s sport romances and this one will still have you laughing out loud and has tons of sexy banter but Romeo and Stella are both more tortured than I normally expect from Meghan. I really felt for both of them as they dealt with their circumstances.

Romeo has been infatuated with Stella for quite some time while she seems uninterested. So Romeo takes his frustration a step further by being grumpy and argumentative with Stella. To the point where their friends are finding it hard to be around them.

Stella has her own family issues to deal with when he father lets her know he’s engaged to a woman the same age as Stella and had made her life miserable in high school. Acting out of shock, she decides to get herself a fake fiancé to save face and for some reason, Romeo is the name that she thinks of.

Once the “engagement” starts they have such chemistry! There was something extra about these two. Romeo is very swoony and Stella starts re-thinking their “friendship”. This was a very funny read mixed in with super hot sexy times! Definitely don’t miss out on this one!
