Eastern Lights: A Millionaire Romance (The Compass Series) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 3,078 ratings

I once met a man on a cold Halloween night. He dressed as a superhero, and I dressed in red.

For one night, I was his break from reality, and he was the temporary fix for my broken heart. Two years later, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to become a senior editor at one of the biggest magazine companies in the world. The only catch? Land an exclusive interview with New York’s finest bachelor: Connor Roe.

To the rest of the world he was becoming one of the wealthiest men in New York City. To me, he was simply my once upon a time superhero.

My job was to get an exclusive interview with New York’s hottest bachelor. Never in my life did I expect him to want an exclusive with my heart, too.

The only problem with my growing feelings for him? I was set to marry his new business partner.

Gorgeous and Emotional- An Epic Love Story!
One of the things I love most about Brittainy C. Cherry’s romance novels is the way she makes the emotions of her characters so evocative. It’s truly incredible and anyone who reads her novels will be immediately drawn to her writing style for this. As a reader, I always want to FEEL what the characters are feeling so that I can experience the books WITH the characters. This is exactly why I come back to this authors novels time and again. Not only that, but her books are also filled with realism, intense emotion, and they always come with an all-consuming, EPIC love story just like in this one with Aaliyah and Connor. You won’t regret it if you read this one. This I can PROIMISE you. Just be aware that there will be tears, your heart will burst with emotion and pride (I didn’t know a book could make you feel this way 😉) and you will be on an intense journey. It’s all worth it though! A little bit about what you’ll be getting in EASTERN LIGHTS. This is a big city romance (much different than her former novel which was small town). It’s a love story that revolves around fate and re-connecting in the future. This is a story about a girl who came from nothing but climbed to the top despite the tragedies and failures that COULD have let her down. This is also a story about a man who has one of the biggest hearts you’ll ever encounter in a love story and the fight to KEEP the woman who stormed into his life years ago and was fatefully brought back to him. There’s a little bit of angst as Aaliyah does face some health issues but it makes the story feel so REAL. Their love story isn’t perfect, but it IS perfect for them. You really need to read it to see what I mean. That being said, you need this book in your life. Plain and simple. I would recommend all her books too, but this one is certainly going to hold a very special place in my heart simply because Connor is a one-of-a-kind hero. I highly recommend it.

Connor. Roe. Holy. F&*^. *fans self*

I went into Eastern Lights giddy as all hell. I've been dying for Connor's book since I met him in Southern Storms. This man grabbed me from the moment he entered the scene. There was just so much to love: from his big heart to his cheesy jokes, to his positive vibe and everything in between. He's the PERFECT hero. The perfect book boyfriend. Sometimes, he did seem too perfect to be true but then there came a point in this story that he finally let go and we saw beneath his easy going persona. I'll admit I needed to see Connor lose his control. I needed that flaw in his character. It made Connor Roe feel more real.

Connor Ethan Roe stole the whole dang show. Get ready to swoon, ladies and gents!

Aaliyah was a sweet heroine. My heart hurt so much for her. Seemed everyone but Connor and Damian s*** on Lea. They used her for their gain; which p***** me the hell off. With everything else Lea had going on she didn't need the added stress of a twatwaffle fiancé. Let's just say Jason was Grade A garbage. Anyway, Aaliyah deserved so much better than that. I'm glad Connor was there to give her some good in her life.

Connor and Aaliyah had the cutest relationship. I loved, loved, loved their friendship. They shared such an affectionate, fun, loving connection. There were moments that I didn't always feel the romantic chemistry between them, though. I struggled here and there with viewing them as a couple, seeing them as the end game, until the last 20% or so. When the angst hit I had all the dang feels. And in those moments, they proved to me and themselves why they belonged to each other. Why no one else could ever come close to being their end game. I ship the hell out of them!!

Then we had Damian! Oh lordy...

Thank you, Brittainy Cherry, for writing Connor's story. He was everything I wanted and more. Add to that the great twists, the emotional turmoil, the depth and engaging characters and you've got yourself a delicious slow burn romance.

I confess that I have a soft spot for this author ever since I read her book ‘The Air He Breathes’ in 2016, a work which I continue to read at least once each year. Since then, I’ve made a point of reading all her books, which never disappoint. I read a LOT of romance novels, around 80-100 annually, and ‘The Air He Breathes’ continues to be, for me, the standard against which I measure all others.

If you’re not familiar with Ms. Cherry’s work, understand her books are not ‘insta-love,’ feel good, romps through a panorama of erotic scenes. They have some of those qualities, but the overarching themes are more focused on the hard realities of life, the nature of love, the development of the relationship, and personal growth and maturity. Therefore, they can be much more somber, contemplative reads, while also being much more joyful and fulfilling by the end.

In ‘Eastern Lights’ Ms. Cherry introduces us to Connor, a southern country-boy-turned-big-city-real-estate-developer, and Aaliyah, an orphaned magazine editor. As ever, the author provides a generous level of character development allowing us to see their humor, their idiosyncrasies, and the motivation behind the choices each makes.

The story follows the years of their getting to know one another, as they flow in and out of each other’s lives. Each encounter emphasizing their admiration of the other, the depth of their personalities, and their mutual fears of abandonment. As their love for each other grows, the audience is able to see how that love begins to change their thoughts and their perception of the future.

As others have mentioned, the reader always gains some important insights when enjoying this author’s works. In ‘Eastern Lights’ we learn about the nature of healing, the recognition that happiness is sometimes fleeting but worth the effort, and the realization that we must seize it while we can, even if it is only temporary.

Thoughtful, funny, and beautifully written, ‘Eastern Lights’ again displays Ms. Cherry’s mastery of the romance genre, while also providing a window into her enduring wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Um dos melhores do ano!
Reviewed in Brazil on March 24, 2021

Desejo muitos flashes of love para vocês.

Desejo muitos flashes of love para vocês.

This is the first time I haven’t sobbed during a Brittainy Cherry read, but I was still completely invested in this story. The twists and turns along the way provided me a different kind of emotional turmoil. It was fantastic!

I’ve been itching to see more of Connor after loving him as a secondary character in Southern Storms. Although a little older (and now a millionaire), his charming, goofy, sunshine personality still shines bright. With his painfully corny jokes and generous heart, I loved him a lot.

It’s a bit of a second chance romance as Connor and Aaliyah cross paths twice in their lives by fate. Craving the warmth of family, Aaliyah has been continually lead down a path of falsified love. Her story is heartbreaking, but with Connor uplifting her worth to the world, I loved this story of perseverance. Did I agree with every choice these two made? No. But their conclusion is worth every hiccup.

Brimming with humour, singular moments of love, and shocking reveals, I was completely addicted to this story.
