The Hands of Time by Michelle Madow
    Book #5: Elementals Series
    Source: ARC from author
    My Rating: 5/5 stars
    My Review:

It’s tricksy being the Scooby Gang of the mythological world. There’s always one immortal being or another you’re on the lookout for, you’re all descended from one immortal being or another, and you’re often not sure which immortal beings are actually on your side. Turns out, when the fate of the entire known world hangs in the balance and you’re the chosen ones, so to speak, nearly all the immortal beings are on your side.

With reversals in time, changes of fortune, some serious research, and one damn difficult, life altering decision to make, the Scooby Gang has no time to rest. Turns out, the rising of Typhon, which has, to date been the group’s most important task turns into almost a side note in this fifth and final read of the Elementals series. With so much going on, and without being too spoilerish, this book takes the reader on a world wind ride across time and space. There are dragons (YES!!!), gods, goddesses, demi-gods, primordial beings, and mere mortals. The population of the core group shifts dramatically as they face Typhon and the closing of the portal to Kerberos.

From the opening pages of this read, the reader is thrown head-long into crazy. There are numerous long explanations, some backstory, and decisions that would tax even the oldest among us. The KIDS are asked to decide who will give up their life in order to seal the portal to Kerberos. As a demigod, Nichole has to be involved in the sealing process and Chris has other issues that keep him from being the one. This leave Danielle and Blake and I think we all know by now how that’s going to go down  Needless to say, the group works until the very last moment looking for a way to save everyone only to be told, there is no other way. One among them must be sacrificed in order to save the world.

The Bottom Line: The Hands of Time is truly a wild and crazy ride that I most willingly went on. Knowing this is the final book in the series, I expected quite a ride and certainly got that and more. I expected the bulk of the book to be about the defeat of Typhon, but was surprised to find that task actually played only a small part in the overall plot. What took up the bulk of the read was the closing of the portal to Kerberos. Madow really went all out with this part of the plot. The decisions the kids faced caused them to fracture as a group, pull together as a group, and make choices that no child should ever have to face. The Hands of Time runs the gamut of emotions from happiness to stark fear, love to hatred, and hopefulness to desolation. Though I hated to see some events happen, I will say I have tremendous respect for an author who is willing to kill off a character because it is simply right for the plot. Madow is true to her plot and her characters and by the end of the read I found myself quite satisfied with the end of this series. Some of the satisfaction came in the very last pages in what I can only describe as a damn-near perfect epilogue!

OH MY GOD!!!!! Why?!?!?! Michelle Madow had me cry for the whole second half of this book. Every time a certain characters’ name was brought up, it brought tears to my eyes. I can’t handle it. I hate crying and this book had me crying all over the place. Ugh! And, I’m not the happiest person when it comes to the ending of the book. I like that Michelle didn’t go the stereotypical route most authors do by making it to where all the characters survive and everyone lives a happy life. No, this does not happen in this book. The ending of this book was bittersweet at the most. I cried so hard at the end it was crazy. I do have to say that shows how talented Michelle is if she was able to get me so attached to these characters and make me cry so much. I’ve only had four books in my career of reading that has affected me so hard; and those are New Moon (everyone knows they cried a little when Edward left Bella, don’t deny it!), the ending of Allegiant, the ending of Mockingjay, and of course The Fault In Our Stars. This woman is crazy talented.

I loved this book, regardless how much it made me cry. I enjoyed reading the Elementals Series immensely and wish it could go on. I’m just saying, if Michelle decides to make another series based on Kate, I’d be so down to read it. I’d love to see if the problem the characters couldn’t find a loophole around at the end of the book ends. Please! This series was magnificent and I can’t wait to read what else Michelle Madow come out with.

Wow, I can't believe it's over! I have been anticipating the final installment of the Elementals series since the end of the first book. These characters have grown so much since we first met them, but I was invested in their fate from the very beginning.

This is one of the most fast paced and action packed YA fantasy series that I have ever read. Each book is like a short action movie that keeps you glued to your seat until you reach the end. Michelle Madow may want to consider writing movie scripts, because I think she would be phenomenal at it.

Elementals 5: The Hands of Time picks up where every book in this series does, right where the last one left off. I love that, because we never have to miss one moment of the action. After obtaining everything they need to stop Typhon from rising and the portal to Kerberos from being opened, the elementals are faced with a heartbreaking decision that will require the ultimate sacrifice. Nicole, Blake, Chris, Kate, and Danielle have consistently given their all, and never quit despite the seemingly insurmountable odds they have been faced with. What happens when that's not good enough? What happens when you really are out of options and you are forced to make a choice that will change someone's life forever?

What an awesome journey we have been on over the course of the 5 books in this series! It certainly has been a long, perilous, and exhilarating adventure. This amazing group has traveled throughout our world, into other dimensions, and even through time.

Watching these kids change and grow into the heroes they have become was a magical experience. None of the characters are perfect by any means. They have realistic human reactions, emotions, desires, and faults. That is part of what makes them relatable, and in a book full of fantastical things, it's nice to still be able to relate to the characters.

The end of this series left me with a smile on my face, but it was also bittersweet. I am glad to see the way everything turned out, but I am sad to say goodbye at the same time. :(  All in all, the author delivered a satisfying conclusion without leaving anything hanging.

If you are a fan of YA fantasy, this is a must read!! The writing is engaging, the story is intriguing, and the characters are perfectly imperfect. Michelle Madow has become an autobuy author for me. After you read this series, I'm sure she will become one for you, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars The end is here
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 20, 2016
So, the end of Elementals by Michelle Madow is finally here and I have to say how sad I am. I've had this book sitting on my kindle for a few weeks now and have been putting off reading it just because I don't want it to be over. I've loved the whole series so far and sometimes, even though you know the time is right for something to end, it's hard to let go of it and that is what I've found myself doing. However, I knew that I desperately wanted to know how it was going to end so I finally picked up the book and read all the way through to the end in one sitting.

With Michelle's books there is no going back for a while chapter to rehash what has happened in previous books, no we jump straight back into the action like we haven't had a few months wait for this book, and I loved that. At the end of Elementals 4: Portal to Kerberos, we were left with a shocker and a hell of a cliffhanger. So Michelle didn't mess us around she just jumped us straight back to where we'd left off with Nicole and Danielle travelling through time with Chronos. From there we travel through all the final trials and tribulations that the Elementals have to face, and even though they have faced quite a few already it doesn't stop in this book.

I have to say that this book had me in tears at the end. Some were good tears, but they were very definitely mixed in with heartbreak and sadness. Throughout this series I have gone from really disliking Danielle in the first book to actually growing to really like her. I think that this final book just cements for me that she has become my favourite character through this series and it just goes to show that there are many layers to people that we have to sometimes dig deep through to find out who they really are and in the hardest of situations, well that's when people's true colours are really revealed. I know that Michelle has written this series through the one viewpoint of the main heroine, Nicole, but really there were five of them in the team and Michelle managed to make all of them unrealistic characters that we could all relate to in some small way.
This book definitely ended Nicole's story and it finished it in a way that didn't leave any answers unfinished for me, however there is one character whose story I think could still be told and whether Michelle will do that at some point in the future I'm not sure, but I think you definitely need to read this book for yourself to see what you think.

Well that was truly awesome. A great series written beautifully and filled with trials and tribulations but full of love and laughter too. Despite the heartache felt over losing people the ending was perfect.

I couldn't wait to start the final part of the Elementals. As I expected, I received a lot of exciting turns in the story, even very surprising ones. It definitely worth to read this book, and have a great closure with the epilog.
