The Sun and Her Star - A Friends to Lovers Romance Kindle Edition

"This. Book. It deserves so many more than 5 stars. It could have ended at 15% and still would have been one of my favorite books EVER!" -Kelli, Goodreads reviewer

If envy is a sin, then let me be damned.

Graham was born to be a star.
Once upon a time, that star shone only for me.

Now, I have to share him with the rest of the world.

For a while, I thought I could do it. Because, beneath the hypnotic smile, gorgeous body and God-given charm that made him famous, I still caught glimpses of my best friend.

Of the boy who called me sunshine and loved me.

I wore that love like a crown . . . until he placed it on another’s head.

Losing him was agony, distance felt like the only cure.

When tragedy reunites us after years apart, it only takes one touch to erase the past. Just like that, I'm back in his arms.
He promises this time will be different. But I’m afraid to believe him.

Because behind his star’s blinding brilliance is a darkness that doesn’t want to let him go.

I know a star that bright can’t belong to just one person, but my jealous heart doesn’t want to share him.

I want all of him . . . even if wanting what doesn't belong to me leads me to ruin.

Envy by Dylan Allen
This book was incredible! The emotion this book evokes is intense, angst filled, and has you gasping, "oh my gosh"ing, and devouring every word. The cover drew me in initially (I mean, you too right?!). While the blurb interested me enough to read Envy, I felt it wasn't fully a representation of the caliber of book I read. The blurb begins mid-book, after Graham and Apollo have spent years apart. I feel the true beauty of this second chance love story is in the beginning. Author, Dylan Allen, artfully builds a love between these children, who even at such a tender age recognize something special in the other. Apollo has known loss in her young life, but allows herself to experience happiness, and sees a boy she wants to share it with. Graham's life in a secluded commune at the abusive hands of his religious fanatic stepfather should have broken him, but the persistent and unwavering kindness of an eccentric little girl and a love for books saved his pure heart. Years later Graham feels forced to deviate from his dreams in a desperate attempt to make money in order to save his mother's life. A secret he never intends to tell. His choice and efforts to protect Apollo from his secrets put a deep chasm between the them. Will Graham protect his secrets and still have the only woman he'll ever love? Read Envy to find out!

What a read! I couldn't put down my Kindle. I was both broken heathen and full of angst for both Graham and Apollo.

Graham meets Apollo while she's on vacation with her Aunt from Las Vegas visiting a small town in Texas. Grandma's stepfather is the leader of the town's cult. They don't believe in education, doctors, or material things. The only things they believe in is religion. When Apollo finds Graham reading in his secret hiding spot by the river, they become fast friends. She sneaks him books and teaches him about the world. He's 14 and she's 11, but they both have lost loved ones and have more in common than they know.

When Graham's stepdad beats him for winning one day, his mom, Helena catches Apollo and gives her a letter to jail to help them escape. Graham and his Mom moved to California and he and Apollo write and call each other. I'm her 16th birthday she comes to visit him, they both know that they are soul mates but they want to do things the right way. In her 18th birthday, he takes her back to London where her father took her and her twin sister when they were little girls. The trip is a turning point for the couple. Graham is in college, he tells Apollo that he's going to transfer to Vegas to be near her. They are planning their future together. His mom instilled in him not to take things too far with her until he can provide for a family. He's planning on becoming a teacher and she's going to travel the world collecting set and opening a gallery.

When his Mom gets sick with cancer, he drops out to pay for her bills, but it's not enough. Graham gets an offer that he initially refuses because it goes against everything he stands for, having sex for money. But in the end he has no choice. He was saving himself for Apollo and she him. But the bills came first. In the process, he pushed her away for his new lifestyle and his shame.

Five years go by and she can't forgive his rejection, he has his own resentment. She's living her life just as she said she would, he's making money but he's miserable without his best friend and soulmate. When he moved to New York to win her back, will her succeed??

    A must read!!

When this book started, it was so sweet with the way Apollo and Graham met and how their friendship started. Then they grew even closer and I could see a future for them. Then at about 1/3 into the book, I wanted to throw my Kindle because I could not believe what Graham did - oh no he did not!! At that point, I was hoping for a new hero to be introduced to the book for Apollo to have her HEA with. I could not see anyway the author could make me like Graham again. After his promise to his mother and what he told Apollo in London - how could he? He should rot in the opposite of heaven! As a mother, if I found out my son did that to pay my hospital bills; it would have killed me faster than cancer.
There were a few times I did feel sorry for Graham and you could tell he really did love Apollo. Apollo is someone I think I could be good friends with. She is so strong, smart and very likable. I liked how she could talk about any subject when she was only 11. I wish we could have found out more of the fallout of Graham's career after the whole truth came out. What was the deal with Nanette and Lucas? I am giving this book 4 stars because I still have so many questions!
This book did make me have all kinds of emotions, so I guess the author did her job. I do think I will remember this book for a while, but I will not re-read it.

    4.5 STARS
I truly have no words to describe my love for this book. Dylan Allen is an extremely gifted storyteller, of that there is not doubt. Yet, even knowing this, I manage to fall deeper and deeper under her crafty spell with each new story she pens. Envy is a standalone, friends to lover’s romance that will grab your attention from the very first line and likely keep you cemented to your seat until the very end. I was. Envy spans more than a decade of friendship between Apollo Locklear and Graham Davis. Only friendship is not the only tie that binds the two together… a growing longing for each other exists as well. Yet, Graham has been raised to wait until he can offer his heart and financially stability. Unfortunately, life has other plans for Graham which cost him and Apollo everything.

Dylan Allen is truly brilliant and there is so much to love about Envy. As her fifth book, I was not surprised to find Envy was superbly well written. The plot was thought-provoking and at times, unpredictable. Although the pace was a little slow for me at the start, I was far too intrigued with the twists and turns taking place to put it down. I am so glad I pushed through the beginning because I ultimately loved this book. Since Envy spans so many years of the characters lives, readers will see incredible character progression. Dylan Allen’s attention to details and the chemistry she builds layer by layer between Graham and Apollo is outstanding. The relationship between Graham and Apollo is special and unique from the very being. Graham is a delicious hero and while I found myself disagreeing with his decisions, I couldn’t help but love his character. He’s sweet and his dedication to the women he loves is beautiful. Apollo is so strong and has a beautiful soul. She brings light to a boy surrounded in darkness. While she also makes bad decisions, I found myself able to understand her reasoning and I connected with her as a heroine. Envy is a delicious slow-burn romance that will leave you hot and bothered. Envy is bursting with emotions – you will be deeply moved by the story, yet in my humble opinion, the real achievement is the immense emotions that readers will experience.

I truly loved Envy. I wish it had been longer so that I had more time to bask in the beauty of Dylan Allen’s words… and in the heat that existed between Graham and Apollo!
