RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ STEAM: 🔥🔥.5 Everly Thomas has not been okay since losing her mother. It is rather ironic considering she is a psychologist, even if she specializes in sports psychology. Now she has to deal with a temporary assignment: setting her ex-boyfriend and NHL superstar Hawk Madden to right from a slump. Hawk wants to know what made their relationship fall apart nine years ago and is seizing this opportunity to get some answers. His love for Everly has never waned over the years, and there is a tiny part of him that wishes they can mend their broken hearts and start all over again. But, is that something Everly would even consider? You have to mentally prepare yourself for the roller coaster of emotions when tackling a Laura Pavlov read, and Ever Mine is no exception. It brings all of the feels and angst as two people who fiercely love each other go through the arc of rekindling that connection all over again. I love that Hawk's maturity from their years apart has made him finally see the grief that is driving Everly to keep everyone -- including her own family -- at bay. This is the second book in the Honey Mountain series, but it can be read as a standalone. Laura Pavlov does a great job of providing context to Vivi and Niko's story from Book 1 without losing new series readers.

    This was a cute story, but overall I find myself less enthusiastically reading this series. Time moves awkwardly where a short period of time takes up chapters and then suddenly time has passed without a smooth transition, especially at the end suddenly jumping the whole hockey season. Everly and Hawk were definitely cute and meant to be. Their story is sweet but it didn't feel as authentic as I thought it could. It felt like suddenly they were just happening. And yes, they had history which makes their connection easier but it just didn't feel as fluid of a story as I would have liked. Sometimes interactions between characters felt a bit unnatural but that didn't keep me from reading and seeing how these two wound up with their HEA. Because alternatively, there were some really sweet moments like the "how do you eat an elephant" moment. There was the typical drama but it didn't illicit strong emotional resposes from me like some authors can. I enjoyed the book overall and appreciate the hints to the next book at the end. I'm not overly excited for it, but I'll still read it because there's enough cuteness, tropes, and love to being me back for the next read.

    This book brought all the emotions. It had me laughing, crying and swooning. The connection between Everly and Hawk was something special, but it was the connections between their families and friends that really pushed the story over the top.

    This was a hard book for me to read because I connected with Everly’s character so much. It brought up my own emotions as Everly worked through her grief, and to me that just drove home the brilliance of the plot and the writing.

    Hawk and Everly were high school sweethearts and childhood best friends. They spent 9 years apart after the death of Everly’s mother, silently pining for each other. When Hawk convinces his coach to hire Everly to be his sports psychologist over the summer break from the NHL, they are forced to confront their past and see if they have a future.

    I loved Hawk’s character. He was not the stereotypical NHL star. He was grounded by his small town upbringing and never lost that. He loved Everly fiercely and even when they were apart, he never lost sight of that. He fought tooth and nail to get Everly back, but he did it in a way that was healing for Everly. He allowed her to finally release her grief and let her emotions show.

    Everly was the typical oldest child and held all her emotions back. She pushed everyone away and when Hawk finally gives her the safe place to let all that go, she initially fight him. I loved her character arch. She made significant progress throughout the book and seeing her fight for Hawk and give him her trust was exceptional.

    Although this was emotion for me on a personal level, I loved this book. I loved the characters and the town, and I can’t wait for more of the Thomas sisters and Honey Mountain.

    I loved this addition to the Honey Mountain Series. Everley and Hawk's story was beautiful.

    Everley needed the past to heal her future. Hawk needed Everley to give him purpose for the future. Together they healed each other.

    As a healthcare professional I loved the fact that Everley's story touched on the fact that not all professionals have it together themselves and that's ok, that we can still do good and help others when we are dealing with our own issues.
