Everlong Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 472 ratings

A mortal love,
An eternal life.

Lily doesn’t remember her death, or even her reawakening, but she knows this: the sun is to be feared, words are her salvation, and—above all—the bench facing the playground is hers.

Every night, she writes stories about the broken and abandoned things she finds littering the park. As the decades pass and the city skyline grows, her body remains immortal and unchanged… even as her mind decays. She is the pin holding the hands of the clock, fixed and entirely alone as the world moves around her.

Until Sam de la Cruz, a young man of summer smiles, takes a seat beside her and an unlikely friendship blooms. Months pass and their relationship grows, but her mind and memories continue to fade until Sam realizes the strange, lonely woman he’s come to love is more than what she seems.

A story about love, loss, and what it means to live forever.

Review

"Exemplary literary prose that weaves a love story unequaled in a vampire story and you've got a worldwide bestseller in the making. Raeta's writing style is one where every word is weighed and measured in a cadence that demands savoring, like a fine wine or the perfect steak." —Lex Allen from Readers' Favorite

DISTRAUGHT
DISTRAUGHT, DESTROYED, and HEARTBROKEN are just a few words to describe how I felt after reading “Everlong.” This love story between a mortal and immortal was written with such beautiful prose and such vivid descriptions that I felt right there in the scenes next to them, taking me on this journey of someone who knew only the company of herself and was simply existing instead of living until someone showed her that there’s more to life. I was giggling and smiling like an idiot at the beginning of the book, then tearing up as I watched someone learn how to be loved for all that she is and all that she isn’t. It’s a type of love where patience is freely given, where your flaws are embraced rather than shunned, and the jagged puzzle piece that she was, not quite fitting anywhere was not changed or formed to fit into the mold, but instead a new puzzle having formed around her.

I keep writing and deleting my sentences because I can't even formulate a proper review for this. THAT'S HOW MUCH THIS BOOK WRECKED ME (but in a good way) I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing. Tbh I didn't even read the blurb and took a friend's word for it that it was good. So I went in totally blind and was happily surprised by each twist and turn.
I was really impressed by the writing style, it was beautiful and poetic! I also have never sobbed crying while reading before and this book did it to me. I've teared up and held back tears, but this book resulted in rolling tears down my face type of crying. When they say reading helps you build empathy and healthy emotions, they're referring to this book.
I enjoyed the characters SO much! There was a richness in each one. Each night I'd open my book and it was like I was visiting family and friends. I'm all about healthy relationships and this book had them, especially the romantic ones. It was all very sweet, respectful, and heart warming.
The premise of the story was captivating! Unexpected, really. It has fantasy elements but not super high fantasy. It WILL pull on your heart strings, so if you're not wanting that and looking for a cute uplifting read, it is not this book. Read this if you want your heart to be changed, in a way where your wanting to do nothing but run to your loved ones and hold on to them so tight. I will be thinking about this story for a while because it had left a print on my heart, and I'm glad about that.
Gosh I hate being emotional after reading..but i needed this..I did, because sometimes we don't mean to, but days go by where we are not loving the ones we love as much as we can and this reminded me to do so 🤍

    Things to expect:
    Romance is closed door
    Sloooow burn
    Profanity was used
Themes of overcoming grief and loss
    Found family
Mention of blood (so if you're woozy by that, take caution)

    I'd give this a 4.5 rounded up.

Sometimes you just find a book that you know has become a part of who you are. One that you'll remember for all the best reasons. This was one of those books for me. There are VERY few books that can I can say for certain that will stick with me. Don't get me wrong, I have fallen in love with far more than I can count, but very few that my mind will pull up all on it's own to remind me of the beauty of words.

As I began to read this book, I was a little concerned in the beginning with the time it was taking to get into the flow of the central story. However, that said concern didn't stay long. Soon, you get so wrapped up in Lily and Sam that you find yourself holding your breath, waiting to find out what was happening next.

The book starts with Lily sitting at a bench in a park... writing. "I don't write futures. I only write pasts." (may not be verbatim. I just remember the line not looking at it.) Lily honored all things she could see by writing how they ended up where they are. She felt it was her purpose to this for all things in her park while sitting on her bench.

Of course her routine can't stay uninterrupted for long. It has but everything changes. A concerned passerby stops worried for the young woman sitting in the middle of a part in the wee hours of the morning. Bars were closing drunks were falling out... He worried for her. Though the woman hadn't seemed as concerned as he was.

I loved Sam instantly. He was everything I wanted to see in a hero. Caring but not overbearing. Kind, but not a pushover. Jaded, but not broken. Most of all, what I loved about him the most was his ability to see past what is different to see her heart instead.

Lily is strong. She has a demurred strength that you can sense and feel even in her confusion and beliefs. She's also far more intelligent than she gives herself credit for.

The two of them blend so well together, you can't wait for them to cross the line from friends to more... I know I found myself saying "Come on Sam, tell her!" or "Don't be stupid Lily! You know you should!" I have to say, I love how the author chose to bring them together. The relationship between the built beautifully and then just overflowed leaving the two of them unable to push each other away any longer. No more excuses it was time to face the fact.

I will give ya a cry warning here too. I started bawling in chapter 5 all because of one scene that resonated with me deeply. "It is because I am broken."

It broke my heart and hit me square in my feelers! I can't even explain but it was wonderful to read a book that pulled me in emotionally! Of course, I was cursing the author for making me cry BUT I loved it. Lily just breaks my heart so much throughout the book. The suffocating loneliness she feels is equal to the love Sam is offering her through both friendship and so much more.

My heart, however, was then shattered as the resolution to the "fight" came to a conclusion and the story starts to wind down. I will not give away the ending but it just a unique way of ending a book. I've never read one that ends this way. That in and of itself is enough to read this book. I, however, wish there was more, but that's because I didn't want it to end. I loved all the characters. Not just the main characters but the supporting roles as well.

I cannot express enough how much everyone needs to read this book! I'm thrilled I took the chance and bought this book. This is one author that I will be keeping an eye on. (Side Note: This would make an awesome movie! Just saying!)

It made me smile, it made me cry... I loved Lily's character, loved every single word of her relationship with Sam... To be honest, it's been forever since the last time I read a romance that beautifully written. (I wish I had a Sam in my life haha.) I also grew fond of the other characters, each of them relatable and endearing in their own way, and the plot was very interesting to see unfold. I can say without a doubt that R. Raeta is going to become one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to read more from her. Thank you for sharing Everlong with us !

This is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read.
It tugged at all my heart strings and it deeply resonated with me so much.
While there was no HEA, the ending shows us a beautiful lesson- what it means to live a fulfilling life.
It made me contemplate the meaning of life.
I wish we all had a Sam in our lives.
I wish we could be the Sam in someone else's life.
Do yourself a favor and grab this book, the tears shed will be worth it.

A paranormal romance story that perfectly conveys the power of love, the passage of time and the influence of the written word.

There is something so simple yet so captivating about this story. Lily meets Sam. Their love blossoms. They overcome life’s challenges. The End. But… life is never that simple, or perhaps, it is. It’s all a matter of perspective.

I read once that the date of birth and death on your gravestone is unimportant. Instead, it is the dash in between that counts. I feel like this book conveys that sentiment though it’s powerful and emotive story. A reminder to all that it is not the years of your life but the life in your years that really matters. For that reason, I will be recommending this book to as many people as I can. Including you—you should read it!

Raeta’s present tense omniscient narrator is not something I’m used to seeing all that often in the books I read, but it is effortless and not a chore to follow at all. The prose is uncomplicated yet paints a vivid picture of the characters and their lives. Every now and then there is a peppering of genius philosophical musings that I found myself savouring and pondering over. I read this book in two sittings and it is a fantastic debut from a talented indie author. Looking forward to reading the new real ease by Raeta: Ladybirds

I loved reading this book and one day I will read it again. A story of loss and love and loss. There was a point at which there could have been a very different ending. I would have liked that for her sake, but I'm certain she couldn't have chosen that way. A little cryptic I know, but I want you to experience the story for yourself.
