Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

During her downtime Deb likes escaping from reality (and housework) to the bondu. This is where her characters and their stories are born.

She enjoys writing in different genres and this could be the reason why she’s not a New York Times best seller yet (though there could be lots of other reasons too.) Deb’s series include the supernatural suspense Afterlife books, the first of which was inspired by ants, Unlikely Soldiers (based on some of her experiences in the British Army) and The Island Dog Squad series of novellas. She’s also written children’s books about Jason the penguin and Barry the reindeer, a novel about netball players, as well as a non-fiction book about a boy born to be different (co-written with Zak’s Mum, Joanne). There are also two novels in the Aliens Guide series. Her latest books, The Island Expats, are cosy mysteries set on the fictional island of Souvia.

Her current work in progress is a fun read (not) about how she coped with cancer.

Deb’s husband, Allan, is also a weather refugee and they live in Cyprus with their rescue dog, Sandy.

Family Matters is Book 3 in The Island Expats by Deb McEwan. I love how Deb keeps the characters I love and introduces new characters as she explained the series. Matt’s daughter, Kayleigh, is leaving an abusive relationship and resetting in Souvia. Kayleigh is beginning a new job with Aphrodite Adventures. She meets a new man, Jazz, who also has an ex that does not want to accept it is over. I really enjoyed this book. Matt is protective as a father, but, he lets Kayleigh soar. Poisonest snakes (Cobra and Viper) are stolen to be used to kill someone. It was surprise to find out who was behind the killing. Book 3 is a wonderful continuation of an enjoyable series. Hopefully Deb McEwan will write a book 4! I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

If you love reading, but feel that you have too much to do to indulge, the Island Expat series may be a great solution. The books are short, easy reads, but they are filled with lots of action, a beautiful island, and lots of suspicious characters. Each book can be a standalone, however, if you enjoy the “good guys (and gals)” as much as I do you’ll want to start with the first book. Family Matters is book 3. It has enough trouble-makers to keep you on the edge of your seat. It really amazes me how Deb McEwan can pack so much excitement in so few pages. I recommend this series (even for people who prefer longer crime novels…you can read them in between the busyness of your life.)

It is amazing that this beautiful (fictional) island called Souvia can be host to so much danger in the forms of criminals and nature alike. I have to say, I enjoy the humor and back and forth between the teams of people, whether they are George and Chloe of the police; the married couples; and Matt and Elena. The author has a way of making the characters seem natural. Although, Elena tends to flirt with danger. Matt's daughter, Kayleigh, is now on the island. Her co-workers are a real mix of good and bad. She's one adventurous woman and I expect to hear more of her in upcoming books. This installment is about revenge of a twisted mind. I received an advance review copy for free and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

    I really enjoy this series.

The books are engaging and easy to read, yet there is no easily predicted outcome.

Matt and Elena take a more backstage part in this story that mainly evolves around Matt’s daughter Kayleigh.

Kayleigh comes to the island after a bad breakup to start working on an adventure company that’s suddenly targeted by criminals.

There’s a more personal storyline from mainly Matt’s perspective intertvined with the mystery in an excellent mix.

Kayleigh has just taken a job in Souvia to work for Aphrodite Adventures to escape her abusive ex. Her father is also living there and will be there to support her. This story is filled with action with you wanting to see what is going to happen next as well as why Kayleigh and her boss Barney have been targeted as victims of a crime that has gone wrong. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The third book in Deb McEwan’s Island Ex Pat series, Family Matters, is a great new installment of Matt and Elena’s escapades. The relationship continues to grow while new characters, like Matt’s daughter, are being introduced to keep the storylines flowing. Do not miss this series. I really hope a fourth book is on the way.
