About the authors
Andie likes to believe in magic. To wriggle your nose, or wave a wand, and all your problems simply disappear in a puff of smoke. If only it were that easy. However, she also believes we should be able to escape our day-to-day lives with a fun read. It’s for this reason she likes to inject oodles of escapism and fun into all her cozy paranormal titles.
Andrene, or Andie as her paranormal mystery readers know her, is a New Zealand author with a love of writing instilled in her by her mum. Irreverent, cutting and reflecting her background as a stand-up comic, her women's fiction in particular is edgy with humour that can be dark in places.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2019Frankie is an orphan who has moved to Seattle after her mom’s death. Her mom ran a magic shop in Portland and Frankie tried to run it after her mom’s death but it just didn’t work. Oh, by the way, both Frankie and her mom are witches! In Seattle, Frankie leases an apartment that doesn’t allow dogs, which is a problem because she has a familiar that is a Jack Russell terrier named Dex! The landlady is a nasty old woman who constantly makes unexpected apartment checks, and one day she finds Dex lolling on the rug while that vacuum cleaner is operating by itself! Frankie finds herself packing her things and facing the possibility of sleeping in her car or a dirty motel. That is until she sees a sign about a rental for only $100 a week. Frankie follows the sign and finds herself at a marina, meeting a hunk named Zane, and leasing a houseboat she has nicknamed “The Crate!” Little does she know, but soon finds out that the marina is home to a coven of witches and can only be seen and reached by other magical folk. As the story progresses Frankie becomes aware that she can see a ghost ship, and is the only one (along with Dex) who can stand on it. What ensues puts her in danger of death even though she’s a witch and an expert in martial arts. It is a terrific story, well written, and one you can’t put down. I’ll also tell you that you will want to read every book in the series! Oh, by the way, you'll notice British terms even though this takes place in Seattle, WA. The author is from New Zealand, and she will be fixing that shortly as I e-mailed her about it!

Interesting characters that interact is a breezy way.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2018Andrene Low's career in stand-up comedy certainly comes through in this book. I'd describe Frankie B - The Ghost Ship, as clean and cozy, with a liberal helping of magical sass.
There were magical elements which drew parallels with the Discovery of Witches series, and I like that Andrene has kept to the recognised rules of fictional magic - which made it easy to follow.
With a small cast of curious characters, you were left guessing as to who was the 'baddie', if indeed there was a baddie, or who was just in in for themselves. I have to admit that at one point I expected the whole plot was going to be tipped upside-down (although that would have been a great plot line if that had happened too)!
Is it wrong that I finished the book hunting down the anise I had in my pantry to remind myself of what it smelt like?!
If you like paranormal ghost stories which won't make you leave the light on at night, then this is the one for you. Entertaining, amusing, and easy to read.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2021This is a fun book filled with witches, A pirate, and a handsome merman. Frankie and her familiar, Dex, get thrown out of their apartment but find a houseboat for lease at a pier which can only be seen by her coven. And, she doesn't want to join it. But, the landlord tricks her into it. And, Frankie is bound by the contract to train with the merman. Just in time since a ghost pirate and his ship want to harm Frankie.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2023This is my first book by Andrene Low, but it won't be my last!
As a stand-alone book this was a nice touch to your witch coming into her powers story.
Turn of events bring Frankie and her dog/familiar Dex into this small marina town. One thing leads to another and Frankie realizes that she is actually in the midst of a coven of witches. Not usually a bad thing for a witch in training. However, it seems that one witch had more than just training in mind for Frankie. But Frankie shows the coven, and that one witch in particular, she can kick butt and take names in her own fashion.
As in most paranormal mysteries there is a hunky guy that could end up being a love interest to Frankie down the line. Since this story is set in a town with a marina and about a ghost ship it kind of makes sense that one of the characters would be a merman.
The way the story ends gives a clear direction of where a future story will take Frankie & Dex.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2023Some parts seem unexplained. Such as to why the dead witches seemed wooden. Story original and interesting. An easy read .
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2019This book was a great book, it was full of adventure for a witch who keeps getting into trouble without realizing it and her familiar. The plot is simple and not complicated easy to follow and the characters are interesting and funny and easy read for maybe a rainy day or a lazy afternoon. For those who like a book on witches and witchcraft, this is it!!! I can't wait to read the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read
Frankie B - The Ghost Ship is a fun read. Frankie is a witch who lives in Seattle with her talking dog, Dex. I didn't even question the inclusion of a talking dog, I was so wrapped up in the story. Frankie does have powers that other witches don't; she can see ghosts and this leads her into trouble when she needs to find a new place to live. It's a good story. I enjoyed that Frankie got to meet her great-grandma x a lot and that she wore a protection spell from her parents. A light fun paranormal read.

2.0 out of 5 stars IDK
I liked the story, but the writing style was very choppy, and also very repetitive. I think it needs to be edited.

4.0 out of 5 stars Snarky and sassy
I like Frankie. She’s independent, feisty and has signed one hell of a lease. When her familiar, Dex, a spunky Fox Terrier, discovers a suspiciously cheap boat for rent in the marina, Frankie thinks it’s too good to be true...
And it is. Sneaky witch, Gwen, pulls a fast one and locks Frankie into a magical lease with dire consequences if she does not fulfill the conditions. Supremely pissed, Frankie does not take this lying down, and I was cheering for her, Dex, and the mysterious Zane as they try to thwart Gwen, and not get Frankie dead.
Fun, fast paced, with some interesting characters, this story had me until the end. Definitely reading the next book.
