Meet Ingrid Skyberg
Uncompromising. Unstoppable.
Utterly unputdownable

FBI Special Agent Ingrid Skyberg knows three things for sure.

Some wounds never heal.

Ingrid’s best friend Megan was abducted when they were both fourteen. She has spent every day since wondering what happened to her.

It's the pain that keeps you going.

Wracked by survivor’s guilt, Ingrid joined the FBI to hunt down the man who took Megan. She’s spent two decades looking for him, but both he and Megan have vanished. That's better than finding a body, right?

There is only one way to numb the pain.

And that’s making sure no one else has to endure what Ingrid has gone through. Every villain behind bars, every child returned home, is medicine for Ingrid. Turns out, she is addicted to her meds.

Ingrid recently took a job in London to put some distance between her and the past. She now works out of the US embassy, and when an American citizen gets in trouble on UK soil, or winds up dead, Special Agent Ingrid Skyberg is on their case.

This was my first Ingrid Skyberg book. I am up to number six now so that tells you what I thought of this one!

Well written, fast paced, with a believable lead character who is neither perfect nor foolish. We see Ingrid develop throughout the series and I enjoy that.

Clear a few hours and settle in because you probably won't want to put Fresh Doubt down once you start!

This is a solid start to a series with an interesting protagonist—FBI agent Ingrid Skyberg. While working out of the US Embassy in London, Skyberg becomes involved in a case that brings back old memories of loss from her teen years. She is driven to solve the current mystery, no matter the cost. Future books in this series give us a richer understanding of what drives Skyberg.

Sometimes things may appear one way on the surface, yet lingering doubts still remain. Add in unresolved past experiences and the doubts seem to collide with reality.

I buy every Eva Hudson story about Ingrid Skyberg because the settings and the action Skyberg gets into is always unusual . Fresh Doubt went way beyond my expectations.
The story involves several American students attending university in London and connecting with a professor, a research lab, illegal drug sales, and Skyberg's superiors in the American Embassy. Ingrid's job sends her speak to parents who lost their child, American students who found a friend dead, a professor who does not stick to instruction , and difficulties the embassy staff has with English government agencies.
The story is so detailed, and the action exciting , I could not always follow who was really responsible for the illegal actions. I kept reading for hours and did not untangle who did what until the end of the story. So I will be reading the next Skyberg book as soon as I find it.

I was just trying to make sense of the main story. It seemed to be a typical sex, lies, and video tape tale of very psychologically disturbed young woman. predicted the main character and facts rather easily. I was disappointed in the last episodes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read but very slow paced
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 14, 2022
I quite enjoyed reading this book and feel it is worth the 4 stars I have given it, however it was not the most exciting and dynamic crime novel I have ever read. The character of Ingrid Skyberg is quite a strange FBI agent and at times I did feel that she was very annoying, although her tenacity at sticking with trying to solve the crime regardless of the attitude of everyone else around her certainly pays off. There were times when I got frustrated because she was convinced that she was correct in her assumptions and couldn’t see passed her gut feelings. Then surprisingly, just as I thought that she was never going to get there, she suddenly reassessed everything she had previously thought and started going after the one person who I was totally convinced was the murderer right from the start (I was right). Basically, this was one of those stories that pretty much gives itself away at the very beginning and the reader spends the whole novel knowing who the killer is but must go through the agony of the investigators getting it wrong until the very end. The ending itself was fairly high paced and rushed and then the story just finished once the arrest was made. This is quite strange as, under normal circumstances, there would be an epilogue of some kind to tie up the lose ends and lead the reader into wanting more. I also had a problem with was the fact that, although the author was born in the UK, she wrote the book from an American perspective using US spelling. Whilst I understood that the main character is American, I found it rather hard to understand why the book had been written this way and found it rather irritating. I shall probably read the next one but am not overly eager to get into it right now as nothing has inspired me to find out what might happen next.

3.0 out of 5 stars An American novel based in London
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 18, 2021
A good story unfortunately made difficult to read with the text Americanised to a point where it was unreadable. It's a shame as if it had been left as an English text with English descriptives instead of being 'converted' then it would have been a great read.
The author has got a great talent, shame it had to be diluted in this way, unfortunately I wont be reading the following books in the series.
