Daniel Tale has an extremely tough day which leaves him wondering what he would have done to change the outcome. This, in turn, leads him to wonder what he'd change about the rest of his life, mainly wanting to redo his entire final year of university as it contains many regrets, especially the fact that he never earned his PhD. These thoughts lead him to experience a lucid dream which has thrusted him back into his final year of university, giving him the opportunity to change what he regrets and to see how his mind pieces together the outcome of every alteration.

I was immediately drawn into this book! The idea behind this story is something I am certain every person has experienced. I know personally I have thought a few times throughout my life about how I would change something in my past if given the chance. And it doesn’t even have to be a big event like preventing a death, it can be something as small as staying an hour later at a party.

So much happens within the first few pages that it’s hard not to feel for the main character, Daniel. First, his girlfriend breaks up with him after admitting she hasn’t loved him for a long time and has been cheating on him. Then he’s fired over the phone from his job. Then we learn his family cat has passed away. And finally, he witnesses a car crash and possibly the death of another person. I just wanted Daniel’s life to get better because no one deserves all of that at once.

We learn more about Daniel’s backstory, including failing Biochemistry because of Laura, causing his life to change direction. So when he wakes up the next morning back at university, it’s almost a relief. He has a chance to make things go his way. Daniel goes to his lessons, and notes that they are easier because he remembers them. He puts his foot down with Laura, leading to her cheating on him again, getting caught, and broken up with. It was nice to see Daniel breaking up with Laura this time, due to how upset she caused Daniel to feel previously.

Something that stood out to me as odd was the fact that everyone on campus seems to care about this relationship. Maybe the school is smaller than I realized, but I find it hard to believe that everyone would sympathize with Daniel. Some people surely don’t know about his relationship with Laura, and even if they heard rumors, they wouldn’t care. Another thing was there are a lot of internal monologues that caused walls of text, making it can be hard to read in some sections. The paragraphs could have been broken up a bit more to help with the flow of reading.

During his time back in university, Daniel makes different decisions that leads to his life being completely different from the one we were first introduced to. The last chapter really got me, and without spoiling too much, it will get you too! I was relieved at how things wrapped up. I just wanted Daniel to be happy in a field of work he enjoys with people who care for him. And the story ends on a suspenseful note, leaving the reader to decide if Daniel is still in the dream-world or not.

Overall, this was a very interesting story idea, and I think it is well worth the read!
